In comparison to the traditional radial injection, axial injection technology has proven to offer greater deposition efficiency, throughput, and cost savings on numerous applications [1]. Despite these benefits, the original Axial III M600 torch had several limitations due to its size, mass, and number of components. To address these shortcomings, a smaller, lighter, and more ergonomic version of the torch was developed, called the Axial III Plus, that produces the same high-quality coatings at high feed rates and deposition efficiency. This paper highlights the innovations in this new torch and the potential applications it opens for the plasma spraying industry.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75063105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Coatings produced by suspension plasma spraying served as an experimental reference for numerical analysis, which involved advanced turbulent flow and volumetric heat source modeling along with the use of commercial fluid flow software. Geometric and numerical models were used to simulate the generation of plasma inside the torch and the resulting plasma flow with its highly nonlinear thermophysical characteristics. This work opens the possibility of predicting feedstock particle movement and deposition, which is essential in understanding coating build-up mechanisms in general and the flow of fine particles on substrate surfaces in particular.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78410141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, a novel approach is proposed to remove oxide from Ni-Al droplets in-flight by adding a deoxidizer (diamond) to the feedstock powder. A mixture of nickel, aluminum, and diamond powders was mechanically alloyed using a combination of cryogenic and planetary ball milling. The resulting Ni/Al/diamond composite powder was then plasma sprayed via the APS process, forming Ni-Al coatings on Inconel 738 substrates. Phase composition, microstructure, porosity, and microhardness of the coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, image analysis, and hardness testing, respectively. Oxygen content measurements showed that the coatings contained significantly less oxygen than coatings made from ordinary Ni/Al powders. In-flight particle temperatures were also measured and found to be higher than 2300 °C. The low oxygen content in the coatings is attributed to the in-situ deoxidizing effect of ultrahigh temperature droplets which are also oxide-free.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84481454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By optimization to optimum cavitation resistance, the deposited coatings can increase the service life of ship rudders significantly and even serve as repair processes for ship propellers. The given overview aims to support the selection of processes when specifying the target properties to be set with regard to cavitation protection. By using high-pressure warm spraying and cold spraying, properties similar to those of cast nickel aluminum bronze were achieved, however at relatively high costs. In contrast, coatings produced by using HVOF and arc spraying have erosion rates that are only about four respectively three times higher as compared to cast nickel aluminum bronze, while far outperforming bulk shipbuilding steel. Hence, their properties should be sufficient for acceptable service life or docking intervals for ship rudder applications. Propeller repair might demand for better coating properties as obtained by cold spraying. With respect to costs, HVOF and arc spraying in summary might represent a good compromise to reach coating properties needed in application.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"1065 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90117531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The deposit (RF WHA) contained a fully developed WHA structure; i.e.; spherical W particles embedded in a Ni-rich matrix. The bending tensile strength Rm; bending yield strength Rp;0.2; and elastic modulus of the deposit were compared with two W-Ni-Co references fabricated by powder metallurgy (PM WHA) via sintered and quenched (PMSQ); and forged and annealed (PM-FA). While the RF deposit properties are comparable with the PM-SQ reference; the PMFA exhibited higher mechanical properties. The deposit showed very limited ductility A < 3%. The fatigue crack growth rate in the deposit measured in bending (R < -1) was comparable to the PM-SQ reference material in the near-threshold region whereas the forged PM-FA had significantly better fatigue performance. In the near-threshold fatigue regime; the crack growth took place in the Ni-rich matrix. In the Paris regime; the similar fracture mode was observed; with the exception of PM-SQ; where the tungsten particles fracture contributed significantly. The static failure was exclusively trans-particle in RF WHA; while both PM WHAs failed by a mix of ductile matrix failure and trans-particle cleavage fracture. The fracture toughness of the deposit was significantly lower than the references. These early results indicate that RF-plasma spray is a suitable and efficient manufacturing method for production of WHA materials; however with limited mechanical properties in some aspects.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91091299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Much of the work conducted has focused on the optimization of cavitation resistance through chemical composition changes, the use of different thermal spraying (ASP, HVOF, HVAF) and welding (PTA) processes, and post-treatments such as shot-peening, cold working, and PTA remelting. The aim of this current work is to present a compilation of published articles that report on the research that has been done. Among the trends observed is that coating density and cavitation resistance improve with increasing particle velocity, particularly for HVOF-kerosene spraying. In regard to post-treatments, cold working was found to most effective, reducing cavitation mass loss (in PTA FeMnCrSi coatings) by a factor of nearly two.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"84 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77744180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study of thermal spray processes and materials is thus relevant to improving turbine performance. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the influence of fuel-oxygen ratio on tungsten- and chromium-carbide cermet coatings deposited by HVOF. Particle velocity and temperature were measured as were coating hardness, porosity, and cavitation resistance. Higher particle velocities were obtained at higher fuel ratios, producing harder, denser coatings with better cavitation resistance. Based on test results, the wear mechanism starts with the nucleation of the cavitation that occurs in the pores, resulting in the formation of craters and the eventual detachment of lamellae as indicated by the smoothness of the surface.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"98 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76515400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This accretion can compromise the operational performance of several industrial applications, such as wind turbines, power lines, aviation, and maritime transport. To effectively prevent icing problems, the development of durable icephobic coating solutions is strongly needed. Here, the durability of lubricated icephobic coatings was studied under repeated icing/deicing cycles. Lubricated coatings were produced in one-step by flame spraying with hybrid feedstock injection. The coating icephobicity was investigated by accreting ice from supercooled microdroplets using an icing wind tunnel. The ice adhesion strength was evaluated by a centrifugal ice adhesion tester. The icing performance was investigated over four icing/deicing cycles. Surface properties of coatings, such as morphology, topography, chemical composition and wettability, were analyzed before and after the cycles. The results showed an increase in ice adhesion over the cycles, while a stable icephobic behaviour was retained for one selected coating. Moreover, consecutive ice detachment caused a surface roughness increase. This promotes the formation of mechanical interlocking with ice, thus justifying the increased ice adhesion. Finally, the coating hydrophobicity mainly decreased as a consequence of the damaged surface topography. In summary, lubricated coatings retained a good icephobic level after the cycles, thus demonstrating their potential for icephobic applications.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72710724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
