The objective of the prospective, non-interventional, multicentre study ArtLight (NCT05725213) was to gain comprehensive insights into the cosmetic effect of methyl aminolevulinate-artificial daylight photodynamic therapy in patients with actinic keratoses using different artificial daylight systems under real-world conditions. The study enrolled patients with Olsen grade 1 or 2 actinic keratoses on the face and scalp in Germany. Patients were treated with methyl aminolevulinate-artificial daylight photodynamic therapy. The cosmetic effect was assessed via photodamage parameters (global score for photoaging, mottled pigmentation, tactile roughness, telangiectasias, fine lines). Each photodamage variable was recorded on a 5-point scale (0-4). In total, 224 patients (median age: 75.0 years [range 50-91], 85.3% male, 62.5% Olsen grade 2, 55.4% treatment-naive) were treated with methyl aminolevulinate-artificial daylight photodynamic therapy. At month 3, all 5 parameters of photoaging were significantly reduced from baseline (p < 0.001). The majority of patients (81.3%) and investigators (83.6%) rated the cosmetic result as good or very good. Beyond effective eradication of actinic keratoses, field-directed methyl aminolevulinate-artificial daylight photodynamic therapy can improve photoaging symptoms, including tactile roughness, mottled pigmentation, telangiectasis, and fine lines. Thus methyl aminolevulinate-artificial daylight photodynamic therapy provides additional benefits, particularly for patients concerned with cosmetic outcomes during or after treatment.</p>","PeriodicalId":6944,"journal":{"name":"Acta dermato-venereologica","volume":"105 ","pages":"adv43245"},"PeriodicalIF":3.5,"publicationDate":"2025-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC12041794/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143959353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study investigated prevalence trends of self-reported nickel allergy, risk factors, and atopic comorbidity among children. Eight-year-old children from Norrbotten County, Sweden, were recruited in 1996 (n = 3,430), 2006 (n = 2,585), and 2017 (n = 2,785). Self-reported nickel allergy decreased from 7.7% (2006) to 6.1% (2017; p = 0.024) and was significantly more common among girls. In 1996, only children with atopic dermatitis answered questions on nickel allergy. Among children with atopic dermatitis, no significant decrease was seen over the years 1996 to 2017. Ear piercing (odds ratio [OR] 1.93, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.39-2.68 and OR 5.57, 95% CI 3.71-8.38) and female sex (OR 4.05, 95% CI 2.68-6.13 and OR 1.73, 95% CI 1.09-2.74) were risk factors for self-reported nickel allergy in 2006 and 2017, respectively. Self-reported nickel allergy was significantly more prevalent among children with atopic dermatitis than without in 2006 (12.3% vs 6.4%; p < 0.001) and 2017 (11.5% vs 5.1%; p < 0.001), and among children with allergic rhinitis in 2017 (8.6% vs 4.7%; p = 0.015). In conclusion, we found a decreasing prevalence of self-reported nickel allergy, but not among children with atopic dermatitis. Ear piercing and female sex were strongly associated with nickel allergy. Our findings also suggest that nickel allergy is associated with atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis.</p>","PeriodicalId":6944,"journal":{"name":"Acta dermato-venereologica","volume":"105 ","pages":"adv42425"},"PeriodicalIF":3.5,"publicationDate":"2025-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC12012752/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143959665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study's aim was to gather information on patient perception of the impact of menopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on psoriasis. This survey-based study analysed 139 postmenopausal women with psoriasis from the USA and South Korea. In the combined cohort, most women reported menopause either had no effect on their psoriasis (41.7%) or worsened their psoriasis (33.1%). In the combined cohort, a majority of women (73.4%) reported that there was no change in their psoriasis treatment with menopause. Of the women receiving HRT (n = 29), the majority reported no effect on psoriasis (62.1%). In multivariate analysis, alcohol consumption was protective against worsening of psoriasis with menopause (OR 0.19 [95% CI 0.06-0.59], p = 0.004). However, data on chronic pruritus in geriatric populations remain limited. A prospective observational study was conducted at the Centre for Geriatrics in Southern Saxony-Anhalt (ZASSA), involving 201 geriatric patients (mean age 83.5±5.1 years). Chronic pruritus was found in 23.4% of patients, persisting for an average of 8 years with moderate to severe intensity (mean=6.36 on a 0 to 10 numeric scale). It commonly affected the legs (48.9%) and arms (44.7%) and was linked to depressive symptoms and daily medication use. Chronic pruritus significantly impaired physical functioning, particularly in moderate activities and stair climbing, and increased pain levels. ItchyQoL scores highlighted adverse effects on symptoms, functioning, feelings, and self-perception. Overall, chronic pruritus is prevalent among geriatric patients and substantially reduces quality of life.
