Our study concerns a blazed-binary grating having a period of 30µm and composed of 2D subwavelength structures with size in between 120 nm and 350 nm. We demonstrate the manufacturing of the gratings on 3” wafers by two lithography technologies (e-beam and nanoimprint) followed by classical dry etching process. Optical measurements show that the subwavelength grating approach enables a broadband efficiency, polarization behaviour and wavefront quality improvement with respect to the requirements for the next generation of spectro-imagers for Earth observation missions. An outlook towards spherical substrate based on nanoimprint lithography is also reported with the results of mixed features replication (holes and pillars in the range of 160 nm to 330 nm) on a 540 mm concave which demonstrate uniformity and accuracy capabilities over 3” surface.","PeriodicalId":674,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46377704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We start by a study of early seminal papers, and we propose additional explanations to get a simpler understanding of the subject. A geometrical construction is described to relate phase birefringence to group birefringence, and it is applied to the measurement of several kinds of PM fibers using stress-induced photo-elasticity, or shape birefringence. These measurements confirm clearly that the difference between group birefringence and phase birefringence is limited to 15–20% in stress-induced PM fibers (bow-tie, panda, or tiger-eye), but that it can get up to a 3-fold factor with an elliptical-core (E-core) fiber. There are also surprising results with solid-core micro-structured PM fibers, that are based on shape birefringence, as E-core fibers.","PeriodicalId":674,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"57899111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The general world congress was sponsored by ICO, OWLS, and TU Dresden, and financially co-sponsoring by the DGaO – The German Branch of EOS, Carl Zeiss AG, OPTICA (The society advancing optics and photonic worldwide, formerly OSA), SPIE (The International Society for Optics and Photonics – Connect Minds and Advance Light), Photonics Society of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), IUPAP (The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics) and the City of Dresden. The EOS (European Optical Society), LAM (African Laser, Atomic and Molecular Physics Network), and RIAO (The Iberian American Network on Optics) have technically co-sponsored the general world congress. Preparations for the general world congress were underway immediately after the ICO-24 in Tokyo, Japan, 2017, but had to be halted in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The general world congress was postponed to 2021, but could not be held again. Luckily, due to a wise decision by ICO, there was no switch to digital presentation. Great efforts have been made to increase the number of female speakers with extraordinary commitment of the international Technical Program Committee (TPC), especially by Wolfgang Osten. The outstanding engagement of Frank Hoeller, Associate Secretary of ICO from 2017 to 2021, has to be highlighted. The ICO mourns his passing away and the participants thought with a moment of silence. To commemorate of Frank Hoeller, the DGaO exhibited a poster at the congress. Most hurdles were taken together with the commitment of the worldwide network of sponsors and co-sponsors, the TPC, especially the program chairs Wolfgang Osten and Alexander Heisterkamp, the fundraising chair Michael Pfeffer, and the adviser Bernd Kleemann, and the unbelievable commitment of the local team, especially from the chairs of the local team Nektarios Koukourakis and Lars Buettner. “Optics & Photonics for a better World” is the motto of ICO with the objective to contribute, on an international basis, to the progress of the science of optics and photonics and their applications with emphasizes the unity of the crossdisciplinary field of optics. We thank the Secretary General Humberto Michinel and the President John C. Howell for the sustainable decisions and trust. We acknowledge the crucial support of TU Dresden too. The worldwide General Congress was celebrated with participants from 55 countries of 5A (Africa, Asia, Australia, America and Amazing Europe). For the first time in the history of ICO, a joint General World Congress was celebrated together with OWLS. The upper part is composed of VO2 nano cylindrical arrays prepared on the front illuminated surface of quartz substrate, and VO2 square films and VO2/SiO2/VO2 square nanopillar arrays prepared on the back surface. The lower part is an array of SiO2/Ti/VO2 nanopillars on Ti substrate. The effects of different structural parameters and temperature on the absorption spectra were analyzed by the finite-difference time-domain method. An average absorption rate of up to 94.7% and an ultra-wide bandwidth of 6.5 μm were achieved in NMIR 1.5-8 μm. Neither vertical incident light with different polarization angles nor large inclination incident light has a significant effect on the absorption performance of the absorber. The ultra-broadband high absorption performance of this absorber will be widely used in NMIR photodetectors and other new optoelectronic devices.","PeriodicalId":674,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45014426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This random reflector was inscribed by femtosecond (fs) laser direct writing on the axial axis of a multimode fiber with 50 µm core and 125 µm cladding with a length of 17 mm. This microstructure was placed inside a surgical syringe to be positioned in the center of a high-precision rotation mount to accurately control its angle of rotation. Only by rotating this mount, three different output spectra were obtained: a single wavelength lasing centered at 1574.75 nm, a dual wavelength lasing centered at 1574.75 nm and 1575.75 nm, and a single wavelength lasing centered at 1575.5 nm. However, practical deployment of such amplifiers require massive development and optimization efforts with the numerical modeling being the core design tool. The numerical optimization of bismuth-doped fiber amplifiers is challenging due to a large number of unknown parameters in the conventional rate equations models. We propose here a new approach to develop a bismuth-doped fiber amplifier model based on a neural network purely trained with experimental data sets in E- and S-bands. This method allows a robust prediction of the amplifier operation that incorporates variations of fiber properties due to manufacturing process and any fluctuations of the amplifier characteristics.\u0000Using the proposed approach the spectral dependencies of gain and noise figure for given bi-directional pump currents and input signal powers have been obtained. The low mean (less than 0.19 dB) and standard deviation (less than 0.09 dB) of the maximum error are achieved for gain and noise figure predictions in the 1410-1490 nm spectral band.","PeriodicalId":674,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47304832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the rotation mode, vibration mode, and energy associated with the hydrogen bonding network of water are in the terahertz band, resulting in strong absorption. Therefore, it is difficult to detect liquid biological samples using the terahertz technology. Here, a high-transmittance double-layer microfluidic chip was prepared using a cycloolefin copolymer material with high transmittance of terahertz waves. Combined with terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, the terahertz spectral characteristics of deionized water, NaCl, NaCO3, and CH3COONa solutions were studied. The changes in the terahertz transmission intensity of these electrolyte solutions under constant electric and magnetic fields were measured. The results show that the terahertz spectra of different sodium salt solutions with the same concentration of 0.9 mol/l are different. Furthermore, the terahertz absorption coefficients of the different electrolyte solutions gradually decrease with the increase of their residence time under the electric field, which is contrary to the results obtained under the external magnetic field. This study provides a new idea for the detection of sodium salt solution and lays a foundation for the development of THz technology.","PeriodicalId":674,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43710529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose the unstained sections of human gastric tissue biopsies at different pathological conditions were measured with the custom-built Mueller microscope. Polynomial regression model was built using the maps of transmitted intensity, retardance, dichroism and depolarization to generate the predicted images. The statistical analysis of predicted images of gastric tissue sections with multi-curve fit suggests that Mueller microscopy combined with data regression and statistical analysis is an effective approach for quantitative assessment of the degree of inflammation in gastric tissue biopsies with a high potential in clinical applications.","PeriodicalId":674,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48157702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
