Optical vortex is generated by the coherent superposition of Gaussian beams, and vortex mode switching is achieved by phase modulating each Gaussian beam with an electro-optic phase modulator (EOPM). We analyze the effects of different parameters on the combined optical vortex quality and use a spiral phase plate to measure the beam combining efficiency. The results show that the Gaussian beam waist radius, the beam-arrays, and the translation distance all have a substantial effect on the combined beam quality and combining efficiency, an efficiency of over 80% can be achieved by choosing parameters appropriately. Maximum emission was obtained using a pump wavelength of 795 nm, which corresponds to the excitation of thulium ions to the <sup>3</sup>H4 manifold. The effect of post-deposition annealing temperature and duration on the photoluminescence lifetime and intensity was investigated. Quantitative Phase Imaging (QPI) also suffers from this speckle noise when illuminate with coherent source. A rotational diffuser is a considerable method to minimize the speckle by averaging the speckle contrast in time. Here, we employ the dual optical diffuser-static and moving diffusers — to suppress speckle noise in QPI. Continuous-wave laser is used to illuminate polystyrene micro-bead as a sample. Due to the averaging independent speckle pattern, speckle noise in phase image is reduced by maintaining the quality of fringe. The ability of moving diffuser in speckle noise suppression is presented in Fourier domain via Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) technique and topographic phase map. It shows that lower mirror-resistance provides better transmission quality under similar optical bandwidth. By using two pairs of dense wavelength division multiplexers, we select and split the signals with multiple wavelengths to reduce the gain competition between lasing wavelengths. The experimental results demonstrate the simultaneous mode locking of three different wavelengths with the spacing of 0.8 nm. The measured insertion losses and crosstalks are less than 1.1 dB and −24 dB, respectively, for the five two-mode mode-division-multiplexing (MDM) links over wavelengths ranging from 1500 nm to 1600 nm. The four-mode MDM link showed measured insertion losses and crosstalks less than 1.3 dB and −23 dB, respectively, within the same wavelength range.
