Without any additional components, vibration detection utilizing heterodyne detection and digital coherent detection is successfully demonstrated over a 50-km-long optical fiber and the external disturbance signal simulated by PZT is well restored with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of ∼32.8 dB through phase difference method. For the first time, the distributed vibration sensing based on phase-extraction is realized in optical fiber over such a long distance. This measuring technique is ideal for applications in fields of oil and gas pipeline monitoring, national borders and can be further optimized to realize the longer sensing distance.","PeriodicalId":6655,"journal":{"name":"2017 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEO-PR)","volume":"38 1","pages":"1-2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88349193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has less than 10−3 °C resolution at the 3rd-order Stokes in the short term. 3.104 MHz/°C sensitivity of the 3rd-order Stokes wavelength are demonstrated, which is three times that of the 1st-order Stokes wavelength. A less than 0.2 °C temperature error is obtained for every Stokes wavelength.
