Methods typically were designed and tested on videos with artificial distortions, without considering spatial and temporal variations simultaneously. We propose a no-reference spatiotemporal feature combination model which extracts spatiotemporal information from a video, and tested it on a database with authentic distortions. Comparing with other methods, our model gave satisfying performance for assessing the quality of natural videos.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"15 1","pages":"1-3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74280415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In tele-immersive applications, besides their apparent impact on the visual quality of the output 3D mesh, their absolute values implicitly influence the computational load of the whole tele-immersion pipeline from acquisition to 3D reconstruction, compression and transmission. Thus, tuning those parameters to an optimal combination has evident benefits. In this paper, we conduct a subjective experiment to assess the visual quality of textured human 3D-reconstructed meshes that are produced by a volumetric 3D reconstruction algorithm as a joint function of the geometry and texture resolution production parameters. The experiment is based on the forced choice pairwise comparison methodology on pre-rendered views of the real-time reconstructed meshes within the context of human performance capture. We analyze the pairwise comparison data and establish a ranking of the parameter space and, thus also, a mapping from the parameters to the subjective visual quality. The results of this study may be utilized to tune the parameters of the real-time 3D reconstruction pipeline, optimizing for the best balance between visual quality, bandwidth and overall performance.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"37 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88182903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such tools also provide the means for collecting ground truth data when developing models to estimate or classify QoE and various KPls from encrypted network traffic. We present a client-side YouTube QoE monitoring tool named ViQMon, which extracts YouTube performance data from the official app's Stats for Nerds window, and is applicable on various devices and platforms (Android, iOS). We compare ViQMon to approaches relying on YouTube's APls, and show relevant differences in buffering and application behavior in cases when videos are embedded and when videos are played in the official YouTube app. We further use ViQMon together with the collection of network measurements in both a laboratory and commercial mobile network to collect a large dataset of almost 500 YouTube videos streamed under different network conditions. The dataset is used to build machine learning based models for estimating QoE and various application-layer KPls solely from IP-level network traffic features. As such, the approach is applicable in the context of both TLS and QUIC traffic. The paper further compares and analyses the performance of the built models.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"15 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84739608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to large luminance levels and higher brightness of HDR displays, artefacts can be more noticeable to the Human Visual System (HVS). In a first attempt to experimentally quantify those noticeable levels for HDR images, we pioneered in conducting an exhaustive and comprehensive Just Noticeable Difference (JND) subjective experiment of which the outcome is presented in this paper. Six distortions including JPEG, JPEG2000, noise, blur, contrast change, and quantization artefacts have been considered in the test. The distortions were applied to 10 HDR images in 100 distortion levels resulting a database of 6000 HDR test images. The subjects were asked to find the image JND location on each set of 100 images they had the freedom to explore. The effect of content features on the noticeable threshold selection is investigated per distortion type. Our results in some cases show a significant correlation between content features and JNDs. We are hoping that our results can contribute to further exploitation of a precise HVS model for HDR quality assessment and optimization of the coding and bit allocation in HDR compression.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"27 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82488738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most popular of these tools is the E-model. When certain parameters are known, such as the applied codec and its bitrate, the model is able to predict the perceived quality of a communication system. Up to now, the E-model is only available for narrowband telephony (300–3400 Hz) and limited also for wideband telephony (100–7000 Hz). With the extension of voice networks to super-wideband telephony (50–14000 Hz), and the introduction of the super-wideband codec EVS to mobile networks and state of the art smartphones, an update of the E-model has become necessary. To this end, we firstly examined the quality improvement of super-wideband over wideband with results from mixed-band listening-only tests, where we found that the quality is improved by 15%. Then, we calculated impairment factors for the EVS codec and analyzed its robustness towards packet loss, by using auditory and instrumental methods.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"74 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80600200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, mobile context potentially has a severe influence on the quality of interaction and the communication task at hand, for instance if the user has a high mental workload by monitoring the environment and is too distracted for the mobile task. For exploring the resulting interplay of context and interaction with the help of modern sensors on smartphones, this work presents CoCoNU $T$, a toolkit for measuring context and interaction metrics which has been developed to gain a deeper understanding of mobile interaction in the field. In addition, results of an initial study are presented and analyzed.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"68 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79688173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It enables the dynamic adaptation of video quality by splitting the video clip into small segments and providing multiple quality levels per segment. Current HAS streaming services typically utilize segments of equal durations. However, this leads to video encoding overhead as segments have to start with I -frames, independently of the encoded video content. In this paper we evaluate the prospects of variable segment durations, where video segments are aligned to the video characteristics. We evaluate the reduction of the encoding overhead and investigate its impact on the stalling probability using a theoretical model. It turns out that the variable approach outperforms the fixed approach in 86% of the evaluated cases with respect to video stalls.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"8 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82041853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous work has pointed out that the offered tasks should be kept short in time, therefore, participants evaluate at once just a portion of the dataset. Aspects like users' workload and fatigue are important as they relate to a main question: how to optimize study design without compromising results quality by tiring the test participants? This work investigates the influence of the number of presented speech stimuli on the reliability of listeners' ratings in the context of subjective speech quality assessment. A crowdsourcing study have been conducted with 209 listeners that were asked to rate speech stimuli with respect to their overall quality. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three user groups, each of which was confronted with tasks consisting of a different number of stimuli: 10, 20, or 40. The results from the three groups are highly correlated to existing laboratory ratings, the group with the largest number of samples offering the highest correlation. However, participant retention decreased while the study completion time increased. Thus, it might be desirable to offer tasks with less speech stimuli sacrificing ratings' accuracy to some extent.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"14 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88844773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, a new method is presented for directly assessing the identified perceptual quality dimensions. This method makes it possible to assess more test conditions in the same time, due to the reduced experimental effort. We tested this method in an user experiment. The method itself as well as the results are presented. Besides the rating of the perceptual quality dimensions, the test participants are also asked to rate the overall quality of the video. This allows drawing conclusions of the composition of the underlying quality dimensions to form overall quality for video. Second, an overall quality prediction model on the basis of the before investigated perceptual dimensions is presented. The results of the model are compared to the ratings obtained from subjective testing.","PeriodicalId":6618,"journal":{"name":"2018 Tenth International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX)","volume":"25 1","pages":"1-3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79504605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
