Parabolic, hyperbolic and spherical reflectors are defined based on geometrical optics method in order to have the smallest deviation of the focused beam (Fig. 1) during wide-angle scanning. It is shown that it is possible to expand the illuminated region of the array by a factor 3 for parabolic reflectors with axial displacement based on an estimated 80 % aperture efficiency at 30 GHz, D/λ=80. Moreover, improved reception of low elevation signals leads to a higher overall system availability. However, the receiving antenna characteristics usually suffer from low-gain and high axial ratios at low elevations. In this contribution, an antenna array conformal to a spherical cap is presented. The array consists of a single antenna on top of the cap and six, radially directed, equally spaced elements on a ring. The technique, despite being generic, is applied to the specific scenario of shaping the focal pattern of a 12λ focusing aperture at 30 GHz. The main result comprises the capability to shrink/enlarge the focal depth, without affecting the spot diameter. In this paper, a new numerical scheme based on the TLM method, particularly suitable to highly heterogeneous environments, is applied for computing thermal distribution in a human head exposed to plane wave at 900 MHz. The model was proven to be unconditionally stable which allows using a larger time step than the one involved with FDTD or other TLM models. NISAR will measure many aspects of how Earth is changing with unprecedented accuracy on a global scale from a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) platform. With a 12m deployable mesh reflector, NISAR will feature one of the largest deployable mesh reflector ever launched for a scientific mission. Two large planar phased arrays will feed the reflector, one that will operate at L-Band and be developed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and an S-band array that will be developed at the ISRO Space Application Centre (SAC). To that end, a compact-size planar inverted F-antenna (PIFA) that initially operates within the Medical Device Radiocommunications Service (MedRadio, 402-405 MHz) and the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM, 902.8-928 MHz) bands is considered in order to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of radiating versus inductive power harvesting at sub-GHz region. The inductive coupling is carried out in MHz region in order to employ very small (mm-diameter). The scenario considered focuses on implants embedded in depths higher than 10mm. The analysis is carried out inside the muscle tissue of a cylindrical three-layered phantom representing the human arm. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) performance of the implanted system is assessed. The expression is used to determine the intrinsic cross-polarization ratio (IXR) as function of the droop angle, position of the sky-vector, the height above a ground plane and frequency. The expression is verified using full-wave simulations with a Method-of-Moments solver, and shows excellent agreement with simulations. This property can be used for angle-of-arrival estimation using a single fixed antenna, without the need for an array or antenna rotation. The method is demonstrated using a simple candelabra-shaped monopole operating in the 1-3 GHz range. A known transmitted pulse and high signal-to-noise ratio are needed, and the method is not as accurate or robust as conventional methods.
