The element is composed of double concentric square meander line rings and its size is a fifth of a wavelength. By changing the length of the meander line, a phase variation range of about 360° is achieved with an almost constant slop across the 9 to 11 GHz. Using this element, a 48 × 48 - element reflectarray antenna is designed. A measured 1.5-dB gain bandwidth of 18 % is achieved.","PeriodicalId":6496,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI)","volume":"47 1","pages":"1415-1416"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79357730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The radiating modes of this antenna is evaluated by characteristic modes analysis to obtain omni-pattern. The second mode provides a loop current in horizontal plane, radiating omni-pattern with small ripples. To improve the uniformity of pattern, this paper also proposes an array with twisted elements in vertical axis.","PeriodicalId":6496,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI)","volume":"8 1","pages":"3-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79723844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper discusses a design of the ZOR for the RF coil for a 7T MRI system. A balanced metamaterial line is used to achieve broadside radiation. The design has the advantage of generating uniform strong near field up to a vicinity of 3 cm from its surface, and requires minimal tuning and matching when loaded with a phantom. The design can be made for any physical length as it is designed to have its propagation parameter set to zero.","PeriodicalId":6496,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI)","volume":"45 1","pages":"1389-1390"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74010726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed FSS is constituted of a periodic array of two layers, of crossed metallic tapered dipoles, separated by a single-layer FSS and related by a twin wire transmission lines. With the proposed configuration, two propagating paths are formed. One path through the transmission lines and the second path allows the propagation through the interlayer FSS. Therefore, a corresponding bandpass can be obtained when the incident waves pass through the connecting transmission lines and a corresponding band-stop is achieved when the incident waves incoming on the interlayer which is band-stop UWB FSS. By inserting switches between the crossed tapered dipoles and the transmission lines, the obtained response can be controlled. Hence, reconfigurable UWB bandpass/stop can be achieved. Providing, an optimized candidate for UWB communications and radar systems.","PeriodicalId":6496,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"777-778"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90491356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These IAPD arrays are characterized by each element having the possibility to be driven with an individualized time domain waveform. Several acoustic and electromagnetic LW solutions, the IAPD arrays than can launch them, and the near-field and extended far-field region behaviors characterizing the localized beams launched by them, as well as the experiments that have verified these effects, will be discussed.","PeriodicalId":6496,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI)","volume":"216 1","pages":"867-868"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75759592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Placement insensitivity can be achieved by introducing a conducting back plane. As the antennas become thinner, most of the energy is stored in the form of parallel plate modes resulting in the reduction of the bandwidth. Edge treatment in the form of serrations can be used to improve the bandwidth of such antennas. Researchers have investigated the use of serrations in resonant length antennas for bandwidth improvement. However, the behavior of serrations in non-resonant length antennas has not been studied in detail. This paper examines the changes in characteristic modes of non-resonant length antenna due to the change in the dimensions of serrations and proximity to the back plane. Statistical analysis is performed to ascertain the effect of antenna thickness, serration depth and serration width on the characteristic modes of the antenna.","PeriodicalId":6496,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI)","volume":"38 1","pages":"947-948"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75064270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By altering the phase and amplitude of the monopole, the beam can be `steered' 360 degrees in the phi direction, and 90 degrees in the theta direction.
