By using the finite element method, the propagations of the compression and the shear weld-guided modes are studied and compared. The energy of the two modes along and across the weld are analyzed using Hilbert envelopes. The results show that the shear weld-guided mode decays less than the compression mode along the weld, and the energy of the shear mode is more concentrated in the weld and heat-affected zone compared to the compression mode, which means the shear mode is more suitable for inspecting the weld. The interaction of the shear mode and the damage in the weld and the heat-affected zone is also studied. The results show that the damage reflected signal in the weld can be used as the characteristics signal for detecting the damage. The damage localization capability of the shear weld-guided mode is then verified by a case study. The works in this paper show that the damage in the long weld and its heat-affected zone can be detected and located using the shear weld-guided mode from one single transducer position.","PeriodicalId":6427,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Materials for Renewable Energy and Environment","volume":"85 1","pages":"872-876"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90519563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PMFC can be operated continuously for 25 days with stable power output without adding any mediator. The aim of this work is to study the PMFC performance and the effect of phosphate buffer and NaCl solution as cathode electrolyte on electricity production process. The results show that the highest power density (47.6 mW/m2) was achieved by a PMFC using NaCl solution as the cathode electrolyte. This is attributed to a larger decrease in internal resistance induced by NaCl solution as compared with the phosphate buffer. NaCl solution leads to an increase in power production by 186.7% than phosphate buffer at the same concentration. Bacteria infection was also found in the anode chamber which is likely the cause of higher power output than PMFC using pure culture.","PeriodicalId":6427,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Materials for Renewable Energy and Environment","volume":"35 1","pages":"968-972"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89275659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major problems to overcome in large-scale application of SSF are heat accumulation and heterogeneous distribution in this complex gas-liquid-solid multiphase bioreactor (or fermentor) system. In this work, a mathematical model of a rotating drum bioreactor for solid state anaerobic fermentation was developed which consider the transient radial temperature distribution in the substrate bed. Corresponding partial differential equations were solved using the finite volume method (FVM). Validation experiments were conducted in a 50L rotating drum fermentor. Simulation results could agree well with the experimental data. From these results, it was concluded that the mathematical model developed is a powerful tool to investigate design and scale-up of anaerobic SSF fermentors.","PeriodicalId":6427,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Materials for Renewable Energy and Environment","volume":"42 1","pages":"291-294"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87990451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the method of the analytic hierarchy process is used. The AHP method for the solar power technology decision-making on the closed landfill is presented, which is also multi-criteria decision AHP method. The basic theory is detailed introduced. Meanwhile several factors are taken into account, which are economic factor, technologic factor and environmental factor. Then the analytic hierarchy process model on solar technology decision-making is established. The AHP model is applied to three types of solar systems. The result of simulation indicates that the fluctuation of power output of PV modules was strongly influenced by the fluctuant irradiance derived from changes of the meteorology. The results of fluctuation analysis show that the power fluctuation conditions of PV modules can be expressed by the three indexes: MFI index can represent the energy size of the power fluctuation to a certain extent, the peaks of AFM curve show good consistency compared to the sharply changing locations of power curve, the value of RFC index represents the degree of uncertainty of PV power fluctuations.","PeriodicalId":6427,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Materials for Renewable Energy and Environment","volume":"7 1","pages":"21-25"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87499537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The computed lattice constants and band gaps of three bulk structures using generalized gradient approximation (GGA) agree well with experimental data. For the nanotubes, the calculation demonstrated that the BP, AlP and GaP nanotubes were energetically stable. All the BP nanotubes are direct band gap semiconductors regardless of their chiral. In contrast, only zigzag AlP and GaP nanotubes are direct band gap semiconductors while armchair type nanotubes are indirect band gap. Furthermore, the band gaps of the nanotubes become wider as the tube diameter increases, indicating that the band gaps can be varied with nanotubes' structures.","PeriodicalId":6427,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Materials for Renewable Energy and Environment","volume":"8 1","pages":"133-136"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85635165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
