We elaborate a model theoretic definition of fuzzy temporal information combination strategies, which has a rigorous foundation on fuzzy temporal theory. And then define an algebra for querying database instances. We prove that our data model and algebra for fuzzy temporal values generalizes the classical relational data model and algebra. Moreover, we show that under certain assumptions, all our algebraic operations are tractable. We finally introduce the syntax/semantic of fuzzy temporal relations and describe the calculus of the fuzzy temporal algebra. Infrared radiations generated from the water around inserted single-shaft plain electrode are transferred by the three silver halide optical fibers and are measured by a thermopile sensor array. Also, the output voltages of the thermopile sensor array are compared with those of the thermocouple recorder. It is expected that a non-contact temperature sensor using the infrared optical fibers can be developed for the real time temperature monitoring during RFA treatments based on the results of this study.","PeriodicalId":6389,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80700122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and hypolipidemic capacities of Inonotus Obliquus polysaccharides(IOP). In vivo, the hyperlipidemic rats, induced by high-fat diet, were provided 100, 200, 500 mg/kg day of IOP for 8 weeks to evaluate their expected hypolipidemic activity. The results showed that Compared with MG, The administration of IOP did not show any effect on the body weight of the experimental rats, but significantly decreased the levels of LDL-C, TC, TG in serum, increased the activities of SOD and GSH-Px(P<0.05, P<0.01) and decreased the contents of MDA in serum, livers and hearts. These findings were further supported that IOP showed a noticeable inhibition against lipid oxidation induced by free radicals caused by high-fat diet intake on the basis of their antioxidant activities.","PeriodicalId":6389,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83080955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The clinical information (e.g. symptoms, diagnoses and herb prescriptions) that is captured, generated and used by TCM physicians has complicated inter or intra relationships between the different elements. Due to the co- occurrence and combinational properties, TCM clinical data could naturally be represented by networks. This paper introduces a complex network analysis system to model and analyze the TCM clinical data. The system could automatically generate the networks from the clinical database, query the generated network data from the database and has the social network analysis abilities (e.g. measurements and community identification). It integrated the TCM knowledge (e.g. herb properties) to visualize the clinical data (e.g. herb prescriptions, symptoms and diagnoses) by networks, and can help acquire the core medical structures or relationships from the large-scale clinical data. It shows that the system provides a helpful platform for TCM clinical data analysis and the network analyses could generate clinically meaningful knowledge.","PeriodicalId":6389,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81594682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So we bring forward a new method to predict selenoproteins based on motif recognition, we use Multiple Em for Motif Elicitation (MEME) to discover motif around U in selenoproteins and then predict selenoproteins based on the motif. The new method found all the selenoproteins in 9 seleno families expect one false positive in family of GPX1 and one in SelS. The assay is performed with the ABI 7300 system using TaqMan probe and primers amplifying 118bp CD81 fragment of Tupaia belangeri. The standard curve for quantitation of target gene showed linearity over an at least 5-log DNA concentration range, represents10 3 to10 7 copies per reaction, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9996 (the slopes value-3.39 VS-3.32). Moreover, this protocol enabled detection of as little as 10 copies of CD81 cDNA in Tupaia belangeri liver tissues. The overall % coefficient of variation (%CV) for this assay was lower 5% with statistical significance due to in intra-assay 1.08% and inter-assay 0.16%, which indicated its high reproducibility. The new assay greatly improves current detection methods for CD81 evaluation, and this is the first report on the standardization and evaluation of a Tupaia belangeri CD81 RNA quantitation assay from China. As TaqMan real-time PCR enable the rapid and easy processing of a large number of samples, and can be used as a tool for monitoring progression of CD81 expression.","PeriodicalId":6389,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82739281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using Rapid Amplification of cDNA Ends (RACE) and a peanut cDNA library we had previously constructed, we isolated a 1499 bp cDNA of the SAD gene containing a 1218 bp complete open reading fragment (ORF). Sequence analysis revealed that peanut SAD had a high level of nucleotide and amino acid sequence homology to SAD from other plants. Characteristics of the deduced protein were predicted and analyzed using bioinformatic methods. Phylogenetic analysis showed that three different types of delta-9 fatty acid desaturases form separate clades, indicating that the three isozymes may have evolved independently. Expression analysis via real-time PCR indicated that expression levels of the SAD gene were markedly distinct in different peanut tissues and varieties. The results of the expression analysis in this study, combined with existing research, suggest that SAD may be involved in the regulation of plant seed growth and development.","PeriodicalId":6389,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89620114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
