Two series of challenging numerical problems are considered using the LBA. First, computations are carried out for water waves in a parabolic bowl. The wetting-and-drying interface on the surface of the bowl is tracked by the LBA method with absolute computational stability. The accuracy of the LBA method is verified by the convergent of the numerical solution to an exact solution. Finally, the LBA method is applied to carry out a series of flood wave simulations, which have closely reproduced the data obtained from the laboratory experiments.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73210796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The forward algorithm employs a staggered-grid finite difference solution to the total-electric field Helmholtz equation. Solution are achieved through a) an optimal grid technique that extends the boundaries of the mesh outward from the region of interest using a minimal number of nodes, and b) a direct matrix solution technique that allows for the simultaneous solution for all sources. The forward modeling provides qualitative understanding of electromagnetic signals behavior as it propagates through hydrocarbon and conductive saline fluids bearing layers at depth.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75044771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IEEE Work Group initiated the use of relay stations in the IEEE 802.16e standard and it is called IEEE 802.16j. This paper proposed a multi-hop cooperative relay system with space-time codes (STC), with the integration of relay selection. In changing environment, data transmission signals through wireless channels can be degraded by factors like shadowing, fading etc. Cooperative relay system is believed to offer robustness by multipath routes to destination. The cooperative relay system in this work adopted the virtual MIMO (multiple input multiple output) concept. Analysis of performances are made between topologies of space-time cooperative relay systems and compared with cooperative relay transmission.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77960742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Group communication is an important paradigm to study for its variety of applications such as video conferencing, broadcasting, online games, distance learning. Security is a critical issue in group communication. Mostly, group communication relies on its head for communication, so securing the group head is vital. In this paper, we present reliable authenticated group head communication (RAGHC) architecture. This architecture is organized into three parts i.e., group head authentication, secure inter group communication via group heads and group head maintenance. Demonstrating the inter group communication is an additional contribution of this study. By extensive simulation we demonstrate that how group heads are created authenticated and how they communicate within the group and outside the group securely. Comparative results with previous techniques show that RAGHC is better in terms of packet delivery ratio and packet delay.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76857600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is achieved by decomposing the problem into four levels of modeling: i) pure component property modeling and a lipid-database of collected experimental data from industry and generated data from validated predictive property models, as well as modeling tools for fast adoption-analysis of property prediction models; ii) modeling of phase behavior of relevant lipid mixtures using the UNIFAC-CI model, development of a master parameter table and calculations of the activity coefficients (VLE) related to a multicomponent system; iii) development of a model library consisting of new and adopted process models of unit operations involved in lipid processing technologies, validation of the developed models using operating data collected from existing process plants, and application of validated models in design and analysis of unit operations; iv) the information and models developed are used as building blocks in the development of methods and tools for computer-aided synthesis and design of process flowsheets (CAFD). The applicability of this methodology is highlighted in each level of modeling through the analysis of a lipid process that has significant relevance in the edible oil and biodiesel industries since it determines the quality of the final oil product, the physical refining process of oils and fats.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77103234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Key adjustments of car seat (i.e., the seat-pan and back-rest inclination) together with various values of accelerator pedal's spring stiffness were analyzed in the present work. A public-domain rigid-body model of a seat together with the detailed full-body musculoskeletal model was used to study biomechanics of seated drivers. Interactions between the drivers and vehicle in various combinations of seat-pan/back-rest inclinations and pedal spring stiffness were analyzed using an inverse dynamics approach. To deal with the muscle redundancy problem, (i.e. the problem with the human-body containing more muscle than necessary to drive its degrees of freedom) the “minimum-fatigue” criterion [1] was utilized. The results show that seat-pan/back-rest inclinations and pedal spring stiffness have complex influences on the muscle activation and spinal joint forces of the human body. From the result, it may be suggested that a slight backward inclination of the seat-pan (approx. −20deg) and back-rest (approx. −20deg) may reduce the muscle fatigue of a driver. In addition, adding a spring (stiffness around 20Nm/rad) to the accelerator pedal does help in minimizing the muscle activity and spinal joint forces.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77155619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two laser range finders are equipped on the mobile robot in order to perform sensor-based obstacle avoidance without any a priori knowledge about its environment. Also, a GPS is mounted on the top of the robot so that the absolute location and the heading angle of the robot are known. The potential field method is utilized to create force fields around obstacles and a goal. Look-ahead control is adopted to steer the mobile robot in which a reference point located in front of the robot is dynamically changed such that the mobile robot is able to successfully maneuver among the obstacles and reach the goal. The proposed algorithm enables the mobile robot to follow the precise trajectory during navigation task under obstructed outdoor environment, despite its significant odometry errors.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83003317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
