Many studies have been carried out to investigate the lightning performance and thus protect the overhead line from this overvoltage. This paper presents the line performance sensitivity studies of a special 33kV line underbuilt on transmission structure by mean of line arrester placement. The simulation is carried out using PSCAD/EMTDC software to determine the backflashover rate (BFR), based on the placement of line arrester. Results are then compared with the actual data provided by the TNB (Malaysian utility company) with some recommendations proposed for the improvement of the line.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78481865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple welding task to weld a block onto a metal sheet is carried out in order to investigate the forward and inverse kinematics models of KR-16KS. A movement flow planning is designed and further developed into the KR-16KS programming. Eleven points of movement are studied for the forward kinematic modeling. A summary of calculation is obtained. A general D-H representation of forward and inverse matrix is obtained. This can be used in each of the welding operation movement based on KUKA KR-16KS robotic arm. A forward kinematic and an inverse kinematic aspect of KUKA KR-16KS is successfully modeled based on a simple welding task.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77986280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However conventional FLC (CFLC) performance is greatly dependent on its inference rules. In most cases, the more rules being applied to a FLC, the accuracy of the control action is enhanced at the expense of longer computational time. As a result, FLC implementation requires fast and high performance processors. In this paper, it is shown that the inference rule table of a two-input FLCs used to control a magnetic levitation system can be reduced to a Single Input Fuzzy Logic Controller (SIFLC), which can be easily implemented using a lookup table. Simulated results are presented to demonstrate the equivalency of SIFLC and CFLC.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73273884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, to maintain ground system effectiveness, proper design, installation and testing of grounding system is required. In Saudi Arabia, the weather is dry and the soil resistivity varies significantly from area to area because the geodetic terrain varies from sea shore to the arid desert and dry mountains. In most of the inland desert areas, the soil resistivity is significantly high and it is difficult to get the low earth resistance with conventional methods. Therefore to get a low value of grounding resistance, a good design of the grounding pit is necessary which can be achieved by using low resistivity materials. When such materials are used, it is important to optimize the pit design in order to have an economical and efficient grounding system. This paper presents a novel technique for finding the optimum size of grounding pits commonly used in the electrical power systems. With this technique, we can easily find out an optimized pit design that can effectively reduce the grounding resistance to an acceptable value. The obtained results can be readily used by engineers to obtain a good earth pit configuration for efficient grounding of the power system in the high resistivity soils by using low resistivity materials (LRM).","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76740329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem can be divided into two sub-problems: The DG optimal size and location that would minimize the network real power losses. The proposed approach addresses the optimal size and location problems simultaneously by enhanced PSO algorithm that is capable of handling multiple DG planning in a single run. It treats the problem constraints differently by adopting a radial power flow algorithm to satisfy the equality constraints, i.e. power flows in distribution networks, while the inequality constraints are handled by making use of some of the PSO intrinsic features. To demonstrate its robustness and flexibility in accommodating different scenarios, the proposed algorithm was tested on the standard 69-bus power distribution system. Different test cases were considered to validate the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82680098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, the characteristic of wireless sensor network, especially dense deployment, limited processing ability, memory and power supply, provide unique design challenges at transport protocol. Therefore, assuring reliable data delivery between sensor nodes and the sink in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is a challenging task. A reliable protocol in wireless sensor network is a protocol that allows data transfer reliably from source to destination with reasonable packet loss. The current issues of transport protocol are how to implement reliable data transport, congestion control and energy efficient. Most of the existing transport protocols only provide reliable data transport or congestion control. However, there are several protocols that provide both functions of the transport protocol. To overcome these issues, the transport layer protocols that provide both reliable data delivery and congestion control should be taken under consideration. Besides that, transport layer algorithm also allow maximum network lifetime due to limited operating lifetime of sensor node. Thus, to prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor network, an efficient transport protocol need to support reliable message delivery and provide congestion control in most energy efficient. This paper focuses on the existing transport protocols and the future protocol that provide the entire requirement of transport protocol.","PeriodicalId":6383,"journal":{"name":"2011 Fourth International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86773769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
