Novel time-frequency techniques have been applied to these transient quantities, in order to detect the characteristic evolutions of fault-related harmonic components. The detection of these patterns, which are usually specific for each type of fault, enables reliable diagnostic of the corresponding failures. In this context, most of the works hitherto developed have been based on analysis of currents. However, in some applications vibration measurements are also available. The goal of this work is to validate the applicability of this transient-based diagnosis framework to vibration measurements. A specific time-frequency decomposition tool, the Wigner-Ville Distribution, is proposed. Simulation can be affected by many parameters, such as: The air gap size (the design air gap is always different from the operation air gap due to the thermal expansion) and its uniformity. In this paper, a sensitivity analysis taking into account the air gap length and the excitation current was performed. The sensitivity analysis based on finite element simulation results was performed on an existing large hydro generator of 122.6 MVA, 13.8 kV, 60 Hz, 60 poles with 504 slots, 120 rpm. The EERD transforms the kinetic energy due to vibrations, to electrical energy. The developed model is based on the governing magnetic field equation expressed in terms of magnetic vector potential solved using the nodal-based finite element method and then coupled to the electromagnetic and mechanical equations obtained after modelling a quarter of vehicle system. The coupling is carried out firstly through the magnetic force, and then by the modified flux distribution due to the moving part displacements simulated by the MacroElement method. The cycles of vibrations are transmitted to the device as vertical displacements. Many approaches over the years have used signal processing approaches at a high sampling rate (1 second typically) to evaluate the appliance load signature and subsequently used pattern recognition techniques for identification from a previously trained classifier(s). The proposed approach tries to identify the usage of high power consuming appliance(s) by using the aggregate power consumption at 10 minutes interval from the meter panel. The novelty of the approach lies in using a time series windowing approach which gives addition information about an aggregate power state. The usage of hour of the day as input to the systems also takes into account the temporal behavior of residential users. The usage of Multi-label classification approach for identification is also new for this domain. The model is tested over the IRISE data set and the results are encouraging. Also, a mechanical analysis, using Ansys3D is performed on the studied motor.
