Sundaresan","doi":"10.1145/3264877.3264887","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1145/3264877.3264887","url":null,"abstract":"Advances in mobile (cellular) networks have ushered in an era of abundant connectivity. However, the stationary and expensive nature of their deployment has limited their ability to provide true \"ubiquitous\" connectivity under the 5G vision - especially to areas where connectivity is sparing or nonexistent (e.g. rural areas), has been compromised (e.g. disasters), or demands are extreme (e.g. venues/hotspots). The recent advances in un-manned aerial vehicle (UAVs) technology have the potential to change the landscape of wide-area wireless connectivity by bringing a new dimension - \"mobility\" to the cellular network infrastructure itself. By deploying base stations on each of the UAVs, service providers can now deploy and tear-down these cellular networks \"in the sky\" in an on-demand and flexible manner. This allows them to supplement static mobile networks in areas where additional connectivity is needed, or provide stand-alone connectivity in areas where existing mobile networks are either absent or compromised. However, realizing this vision of deploying heavy-weight cellular networks (e.g. LTE) on light-weight, resource-constrained platforms such as UAVs, faces several formidable challenges both in design and deployment. This is complicated by the complex nature of cellular networks that involve multiple interacting components - radio access network (RAN), evolved packet core (EPC) network and backhaul transport network. In this talk, I will present our system \"SkyLiTE\"-- one of the first efforts to design and deploy an on-demand, end-to-end, multi-cell LTE network (on UAVs) that can self-configure itself in the sky. I will discuss how SkyLiTE re-architects the various components (RAN, core and backhaul) of a cellular network to make it deployable on challenging UAV platforms in highly dynamic environments. We believe the validation of SkyLiTE in real-world deployments, will help contribute to a new era of mobile networks that can fly and make connectivity both abundant and ubiquitous.","PeriodicalId":62224,"journal":{"name":"世界中学生文摘","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84500603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To truly enable VR everywhere, we need position tracking to be available as a ubiquitous service. This paper describes WiCapture, a novel approach which leverages commodity WiFi infrastructure, which is ubiquitous today, for tracking purposes. We prototyped WiCapture using off-the-shelf WiFi radios and demonstrated that it achieves an accuracy of 0.88 cm compared to sophisticated infrared-based tracking systems like the Oculus Rift, while providing much higher range, resistance to occlusion, ubiquity and ease of deployment.","PeriodicalId":62224,"journal":{"name":"世界中学生文摘","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84483989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Researchers are exploring various modalities, such as radio-frequency signals, to develop gesture recognition systems. We explore another modality, namely ambient light, and develop LiGest, an ambient light based gesture recognition system. The idea behind LiGest is that when a user performs different gestures, the user's shadows move in distinct patterns. LiGest captures these patterns using a grid of floor-based light sensors and then builds training models to recognize unknown shadow samples. We design a prototype for LiGest and evaluate it across multiple users, positions, orientations and lighting conditions. Our results show that LiGest achieves an average accuracy of 96.36%.","PeriodicalId":62224,"journal":{"name":"世界中学生文摘","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75059808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As MR and AR become increasingly accessible and programmable, immersive media experiences will enhance education, training, navigation, productivity, cultural exhibits. However, to sustain MR and AR use cases, mobile systems will be challenged with system bottlenecks to energy efficiency, computational performance, device security, and user privacy. These bottlenecks stem from the visual sensing needs and graphics-intensive workloads that power MR and AR. Properly contextualized and adjusted, a variety of prior mobile systems research projects can find relevance in these emerging paradigms, leveraging continuous mobile vision, edge computing, mobile graphics processing, etc. Further advances can come from future mobile systems research projects. Together, the mobile systems research community can realize these immersive paradigms in our future mobile devices.","PeriodicalId":62224,"journal":{"name":"世界中学生文摘","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81811443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When aggregate (A-MPDU) sizes are forced to be smaller the throughput benefit dwindles. During normal operation the A-MPDU sizes fall from the maximum possible due to the loss of individual constituent subframes. In the worst case, the size can be as low as a single subframe. We show that, compared to the worst case, full-sized A-MPDUs can give up to 400% higher throughput for the highest MCS indexes of 802.11ac. In this paper, we explain how fixed block ACK size coupled with subframe retransmission are the main causes of reduction in A-MPDU size. We present the modification in the block ACK mechanism needed to attain larger sizes of aggregates even in the presence of subframe losses.","PeriodicalId":62224,"journal":{"name":"世界中学生文摘","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75527375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was believed that if the attacker has a device that can replay the exact same reply signal of a legitimate tag, any physical-layer authentication method will fail. This paper presents Hu-Fu, the first physical layer RFID authentication protocol that is resilient to the major attacks including tag counterfeiting, signal replay, signal compensation, and brute-force feature reply. Hu-Fu is built on two fundamental ideas, namely inductive coupling of two tags and signal randomization. Hu-Fu does not require any hardware or protocol modification on COTS passive tags and can be implemented with COTS devices. We implement a prototype of Hu-Fu and demonstrate that it is accurate and robust to device diversity and environmental changes.","PeriodicalId":62224,"journal":{"name":"世界中学生文摘","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88540165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces a system that can identify the material type with cheap commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) RFID devices. The key intuition is that different materials cause different amounts of phase and RSS (Received Signal Strength) changes when radio frequency (RF) signal penetrates through the target. However, without knowing either material type, trying to obtain the information is challenging. We propose a method to address this challenge and evaluate the method's performance in real-world environment. The results show that we achieve higher than 94% material identification accuracies for 10 liquids and differentiate even very similar objects such as Coke and Pepsi.","PeriodicalId":62224,"journal":{"name":"世界中学生文摘","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86262549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
