Methods: Patients with senile cataracts, previously scheduled for phacoemulsification with an IOL implant in both eyes were included in this cross-sectional study. Patients were divided into two groups: control group (n = 69) with an interocular post-surgical refraction difference in Spherical Equivalent (SE) < 1.0 D and anisometropia group (n = 42) with an interocular post-surgical difference in SE ≥ 1.00 D. Aniseikonia was evaluated by Aniseikonia Inspector TM 3 and stereopsis by Randot ® Stereotest. Ten symptoms related to aniseikonia were evaluated with a questionnaire. Statistical evaluation of data included models of univariate, multivariate, and regression analyses. Results: Cataract surgery-induced aniseikonia was 0.64% ± 1.41% in control group and 0.62% ± 1.76% in anisometropia group with an insignificant difference (p = 0.766). Methods: The patients were evaluated regarding to the VRQoL before the treatment and at the end of the first year. The study was performed in an affiliated hospital of a university between 2018 and 2020. The patients were operated by a single surgeon and evaluated at baseline and at first, sixth and twelfth month after stem cell implantation. To assess patients’ subjective visual situation, we used Impact of Vision Impairment (IVI) Profile 28-item questionnaire. It basically evaluated vision-related activities in three subscales: “reading and accessing information”, “mobility and independence” and “emotional well-being”. This test is established to assess VRQoL in low vision patients. Results: A total of 123 people, ranging in age from 18 to 48 years, participated in the study and 43.9% (n = 54) were women. The study patients were followed up for one year and the questionnaire was filled by patients at baseline and one year after surgery. In all groups, no difficulty was observed in understanding the questionnaire. The results showed significant improvements in VRQoL after stem cell treatment (p < 0.05). The analysis of each subscale score including “reading and accessing information”, “mobility and independence” and “emotional well-being” before and after treatment showed significant improvements in all subscale scores (p < 0.05). Conclusions: IVI 28 item questionnaire seems to be an effective test for the assessment of VRQoL in low vision patients. The suprachoroidal implantation of UC-MSC for the treatment of RP can improve the quality of life of these patients.","PeriodicalId":60672,"journal":{"name":"眼科学期刊(英文)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44192369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, some degree of endothelial loss is inevitable in any type of cataract surgery, including phacoemulsification. Anterior chamber depth (ACD) could be considered as one of important anatomical parameters for preserving endothelial loss from the mechanical and thermal damage that can occur during the procedure. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of ACD on endothelial cell density, hexagonality, coefficient variation (CV) and central corneal thickness (CCT) at one and four weeks after phacoemulsification using transversal ultrasound. Method: This was a prospective study conducted at Cicendo National Eye Hospital Indonesia from April to August 2018, where we performed phacoemulsification in 148 patients with ACD < 3 mm group, ACD ≥ 3 mm group. Specular microscopy examination was performed prior to phacoemulsification and repeated at one and four weeks after surgery. The changes in endothelial density, percentage of hexagonality, CV and CCT between two groups were evaluated and compared. Result: Mean (SD) endothelial density in ACD < 3 mm group and ACD ≥ 3 mm group at 1-week evaluation was 1761.9 (503.3) and 1966.1 (530.6) cells/mm2 respectively, with p value 0.030. At 4-week evaluation, endothelial cell density in ACD < 3 mm group and ACD ≥ 3 mm group was 1537.8 (504.9) and 1798.7 (554.0) cells/mm2 respectively, with p value 0.010. There was no statistical difference regarding hexagonality, CV and CCT between both groups at 1-week and 4-week evaluation. Endothelial density changes percentage also higher in ACD < 3 mm group at 1-week and 4-week evaluation. Conclusion: Endothelial cell density in ACD < 3 mm group was significantly lower compared to ACD ≥ 3 mm group at 1-week and 4-week evaluation after phacoemulsification.","PeriodicalId":60672,"journal":{"name":"眼科学期刊(英文)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41715641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the pathophysiological mechanisms described in primary open-angle glaucoma is that hypoxia in the optic nerve progressively destroys the retinal cells leading to the onset and/or aggravation of glaucoma. The aim of the study was to evaluate the risk of OSA in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. Methodology: An analytical study was conducted from January to May 2020 at the UHC. After obtaining ethical clearance, 112 patients including 50 glaucoma patients (44.64%) and 62 in the control group were enrolled. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected from the medical records of the participants, with or without glaucoma, and a questionnaire was administered and a clinical examination performed. The STOP BANG score was used to determine the risk level of OSAHS. Statistical analyses were performed using Epi Info version 7.2. Results: A female predominance was found (60%) in the glaucoma group with a mean age of 55 ± 17 years against 49 ± 18 years in the control group. The high risk of OSAHS was more associated with glaucoma patients. In glaucoma patients, an association was found between high risk of OSAHS and snoring (OR = [1.43 - 849.53]; p = 0.029) as well as insomnia (OR = [1.36 - 482.86]; p = 0.030). Conclusion: High risk of OSAHS was found in participants with chronic open-angle glaucoma. Signs of OSAHS should be sought in chronic open-angle glaucoma as it may be a factor in its progression.","PeriodicalId":60672,"journal":{"name":"眼科学期刊(英文)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48057930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The immune-mediated inflammation of the orbital tissues can involve extraocular muscles, orbital connective tissue or orbital fat and periocular soft tissues. Bilateral involvement of thyroid associated orbitopathy is usually asymmetric, but unilateral thyroid associated orbitopathy has been less reported. Periorbital oedema as the only sign with hypothyroidism is uncommon and if present, it is more frequent bilaterally present and no cases are evidenced as unilateral. Pitting oedema in hypothyroidism is rare and can be due to increased capillary permeability, decreased adrenergic tone and increase in serotonin metabolism. Unilateral periorbital and eyelid oedema can associate with various clinical entities, multidisciplinary team is necessary to exclude the concomitant disease, so the patient can immediately be treated with proper therapy. We represent the case of unusually unilateral recurrent periorbital oedema in the period of time for 3 years with stabilized primary hypothyroidism and multinodular goitre.","PeriodicalId":60672,"journal":{"name":"眼科学期刊(英文)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48753037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: 18 patients (11 female, 7 male, mean age of 69.4 years) with bilateral cataract and regular corneal astigmatism ≤ 1.0 D underwent bilateral cataract surgery with ISOPURE implantation. Patients were followed for up to 6 months. Measured parameters were uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), uncorrected (UIVA) and distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity at 80 cm and 66 cm (DCI80VA, DCI66VA) subjective refraction, defocus curve, tolerance of cylinder induction, and contrast sensitivity. The data from all implanted eyes (all-eyes) and a subset only including the first eye implanted for each patient were analysed. Results: The mean manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) decreased from 1.05 D pre-operatively to ?0.15 D at the 4 - 6 month assessment, with 80.6% of eyes within ±0.50 D of emmetropia. At the final follow-up, mean (SD) monocular CDVA was ?0.06 (0.04) logMAR, DCI80VA was 0.18 (0.08) logMAR and DCI66VA was 0.27 (0.13) logMAR. Despite a cylinder induction of ?0.50 D, uncorrected distance visual acuity of 0.02 logMAR was still achieved. Conclusion: The ISOPURE intraocular lens provides excellent distance corrected visual acuity for far and intermediate distances along with high contrast sensitivity and good tolerance of residual refractive cylinder.","PeriodicalId":60672,"journal":{"name":"眼科学期刊(英文)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44797379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
