Aims: To determine the annual direct cost of the management of POAG, to evaluate the annual economic weight of the management of POAG and to determine the factors associated with the annual economic weight of the management. Methods: We conducted a retrospective and descriptive study over a period of 12 months from January 1 to December 31, 2019 based on the records of patients followed for POAG in AFIA Eye Clinic in Lomé-Togo. The annual direct cost was defined by the sum of the costs of consultations, explorations and treatments. We defined the direct cost per patient and per year and related to the average annual income. It was said to be catastrophic at 20% or more of the estimated annual income. Chi 2 and Fisher tested the comparison of proportions. We conducted univariate and multivariate logistic regression to search correlations. Results: During the study period, 150 patient records were included. The average age was 47.24 ± 17.09 years and the sex ratio was 0.82. The cost of the diagnosis was 112.18 ± 22.26 of health insurance (OR = 6.68 and p = 0.017) and the use carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (OR = 7.4 and p = 0.012) and prostaglandin analogues (OR of 38.2 and p < 0.001). Conclusion: This first study on the direct cost of POAG management in Lomé showed that the economic burden glaucoma represents for the patient, his family and society. The data from this study will allow health decision-makers to adopt strategies to mitigate the effects of glaucoma on the economy.","PeriodicalId":60672,"journal":{"name":"眼科学期刊(英文)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70485518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Visual impairment among children continues to be a growing public health concern globally with low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) being disproportionately affected. In Zimbabwe, prevalence of blindness, frequency and types of eye conditions children present with are not known. The purpose of this study was to determine the patterns of eye disease among children attending the two tertiary facilities in Zimbabwe (Sekuru Kaguvi, Harare and Richard Morris, Bulawayo) and identifying the major eye conditions that children who attend the Harare and Bulawayo paediatric hospitals present with. A retrospective study design was conducted where hospital records con-taining patient data about age, gender, visual acuity and clinical diagnosis was retrieved and reviewed. The study had a sample size of 10066 children aged 15 years and below analysed between January 2018 and September 2020. Descriptive statistics were run using Stata statistical software and SPSS version 23. The study was approved by the Medical Research Council of Zimbabwe (MRCZ). Study results showed that the most frequent eye conditions are allergic conjunctivitis, eye injuries, lid pathology and refractive error while to 12 years respectively. Males had higher eye disease frequencies than females. Results show a downward trend in the number of children who present with eye conditions per year under study. In 2018, frequency of eye conditions was 56.1% while in 2019, it was 33% and lastly, 10.9% in 2020.","PeriodicalId":60672,"journal":{"name":"眼科学期刊(英文)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70484743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fibrovascular membrane over trabecular meshwork obstructs the aqueous outflow at an angle of the anterior chamber. ***The obstruction in outflow of the aqueous results increase of intraocular pressure (IOP), within the eyeball. NVG results from a number of ocular and systemic conditions with retinal ischemia leading to anoxia as a mediator in over 95% of cases. Most of them are affected with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) followed by central retinal venous occlusion (CRVO), and ocular ischemic syndrome (OIS) along with other uncommon causes or all those causes that causes retinal anoxia which led to angiogenic activity in retina and iris of eye. Although NVG overall prevalence is low, but it is a dreadful condition led to blindness. The objective of this review is to provide detailed information on its basic and clinical aspects, to enable us to manage it logically. Here its etiopathogenesis, methods of early diagnosis and management are discussed. It was concluded that if NVG is detected earlier and managed systematically (both medical and surgical) along with an eye on al-leviation of different aggravating factors of the retinal hypoxia, it could be a sight-saving measure to the affected person.","PeriodicalId":60672,"journal":{"name":"眼科学期刊(英文)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70484905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In children, they are an important cause of morbidity and the leading cause of monocular blindness. The aim of this study was to determine the sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic characteristics of eye trauma in children aged 0 to 16 at the Application Centre for the Diploma of Specialized Higher Studies in Ophthalmology (CADESSO) in Donka, Guinea. Patients and Method: This was a prospective longitudinal study with descriptive purposes from January 1 to December 31, 2019 involving 205 children victims of eye trauma. Variables related to sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic characteristics were studied. Informed consent from patients and/or their parents was sought and obtained. The confidentiality of the files was guaranteed. The data entry was done on EPI-Info version 7 and the analysis using the Stata software. The tables were made in Excel 2010.
