Jenson","doi":"10.1353/his.2022.0001","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1353/his.2022.0001","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract:The general fluidity and ambiguity of property relations during colonization meant settlers, who were often \"squatters,\" relied on land agents to fix their relationship with property-owners. In turn, the latter needed the agent's on-the-ground expertise to manage their affairs and responsibilities for \"improvements.\" Land agents thus became intermediaries between cash-poor settlers and absentee owners. George Bonnallie, active in the northern part of Stukely Township and western Orford Township had a repertoire of routine practices he pursued. Organized in a typology, they provide detail about late colonization and reveal the part played by entrepreneurial intermediaries in fixing property relations in areas still peripheral to the market economy. With in-coming settlement completed in these townships by the mid-1860s, after municipal reform, and with the arrival of speculation by local notables, neither property-owners nor settlers needed the suite of routines deployed to enable settlement. A standardized market for land transfers had developed.Abstract:Compte tenu du caractère généralement fluide et ambigu des droits de propriété pendant la colonisation, les colons, qui étaient souvent des « squatters », comptaient sur les agents fonciers pour manier leurs relations avec les propriétaires. En retour, ces derniers utilisaient les connaissances locales de l'agent pour gérer leurs affaires et leurs responsabilités en matière d'« améliorations ». Les agents fonciers sont donc devenus des intermédiaires entre colons sans argent liquid et les propriétaires absentéistes. George Bonnallie, actif dans la partie nord du canton de Stukely et dans l'ouest du canton d'Orford, avait un répertoire de pratiques courantes qu'il mettait en oeuvre. Organisées en une typologie, elles fournissent des détails sur la colonisation tardive et elles révèlent le rôle joué par les intermédiaires entrepreneuriaux dans la consolidation des relations de propriété dans des zones encore périphériques à l'économie de marché. Avec l'achèvement de la colonisation de ces cantons au milieu des années 1860, après la réforme municipale, et avec l'arrivée de la spéculation de la part des notables locaux, ni les propriétaires ni les colons ne nécessitaient de la gamme de pratiques déployées pour habiliter la colonisation. Un marché standardisé pour les transferts fonciers s'était développé.","PeriodicalId":56358,"journal":{"name":"HISTOIRE SOCIALE-SOCIAL HISTORY","volume":"55 1","pages":"27 - 48"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49137971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

À partir d’un travail d’archives et d’une enquête par entretiens, le présent article étudie les trajectoires sociales et les formes d’engagement de ces médecins impliqués dans la mobilisation ouvrière et dont le projet était de tisser une solidarité concrète avec leurs patients mutualistes. Il analyse les conditions de réalisation de ce qui fit lien entre ces médecins critiques et leurs patients devenus de véritables « proches » tout en restant attentif aux tensions qui ont pu entrer en contradiction avec cet idéal de proximité. Pour illustrer l’évolution de leurs interactions, deux exemples d’intervention populaire sur la santé sont alors étudiés : le dépistage des maladies amiantales et la santé des femmes.Abstract:From the 1950s to the 1980s, in the mutualist health centres of the Bouches-du-Rhône region of southern France, socially committed doctors close to the French Communist Party developed atypical relationships and political alliances with their predominantly working-class and trade union patients. Based on archival work and a series of interviews, this article studies the social trajectories and forms of commitment of these doctors who were involved in the workers’ movement and whose objective was to create solidarity with their mutualist patients. It analyses the link between these doctors and their patients, who became “close” while remaining attentive to the tensions that may have jeopardized such an ideal of proximity. Two examples of popular intervention are studied to illustrate the evolution of their interactions: screening for asbestosis and women’s health.","PeriodicalId":56358,"journal":{"name":"HISTOIRE SOCIALE-SOCIAL HISTORY","volume":"54 1","pages":"627 - 650"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48685199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
