From the beginning all, parasites, pathogens and viruses are organisms that have a negative connotation in the field of medicine. However, the use of methodologies and terms of medicine in the field of ecology and, above all, veterinary medicine, led to this understanding of \"pathogenic\" organisms reaching such studies. When we look into the apicultural research bibliography, we find that these concepts sometimes are poorly distinguished and only a few early studies have been focused on bringing light on this conflictive conceptualization. Today we find a large number of scientific articles that misuse these terms and often consider them as synonyms. Throughout this review we will seek to differentiate each of these terms and generate consensus that avoids the confusion of such important ecological concepts.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49423020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The efficiency of native isolates of three species of entomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernema feltiae, S. carpocapsae, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora) was evaluated against the tomato leafminer, T. absoluta larvae (outside leaf and inside galleries), and pupae at various concentrations and times in laboratory conditions. Experiments were conducted at 25 ± 2ºC, 65 ± 5% RH, and 16L:8D h photoperiod. S. feltiae nematode caused the highest mortality for larvae outside the gallery (53.61%), followed by 45% mortality for larvae inside galleries, and lowest mortality for pupae (3.88%). The effect of infective juveniles (IJ) and exposure time (ET) on larval mortality in different treatments showed a significant (P< 0.01) relationship between IJ and ET and their interactions. Mortality of the T. absoluta larvae and pupae rose with more IJ and longer exposure time. The LC50 for, S. feltiae, S. carpocapsae and H. bacteriophora were 156.01, 225.13, and 317.66 IJs/ml for the second instar larvae of T. absoluta (outside the gallery), 296.31, 305.23 and 320.66 IJs/ml for inside gallery, respectively. Therefore, S. feltiae was a more effective species and can be suggested for complementary studies for finding a suitable biocontrol agent of the pest.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41357267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blattodea: Ectobiidae) adults on concrete, ceramic and parquet surfaces was investigated. Biological tests were carried out on three different surfaces against the adults of B. germanica at doses of 2.5, 5, 10 and 20 g/m2 diatom earth coded ACN-1 for 6 days. In all surface applications of ACN-1 diatomaceous earth, exposure time and doses caused significant effect on mortality rates of B. germanica adults. Diatom earth ACN-1 at 2.5 g/m2 caused 97.5%, 92.3% and 90% of mortality of B. germanica adults on the surfaces of concrete, ceramic and parquet at the end of the first day, respectively and 100% of mortality was obtained at the end of the second day in all conditions with this dose. For all other application doses, 100% mortality of B .germanica adults was observed at the end of the first day. In general, the mortality activity of ACN-1 diatom eartn against B. germanica adults was found to be similar on all three surfaces. We conclude that the Turkish diatom earth coded ACN-1, which is harmless to the environment, has the potential to be used in the control of B. germanica, which is a medical pest, and can be a good alternative in the control against this pest.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43772555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It consists of the reduction in the population density of one species through the action of another. Although the adoption of applied BC in Argentina started at the beginning of the 20th century, it is still a developing discipline. In this context, we designed an online questionnaire consisting of 15 questions to assess the current status of pest BC and the social, economic and demographic aspects of the discipline in the country. We found that 122 people are currently working on BC, of which 62% are women. Although the survey revealed people working on BC in 17 jurisdictions of the country, most of the work is carried out in Buenos Aires, and 82% work in the public sector. Biological control of arthropod pests accounts for 74% of BC projects, which are mainly conducted through classical BC. Despite the fact there is an increase in the number of people working in BC, we offer a series of recommendations aimed at further favoring the growth of the discipline in the country.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44950590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Biological Control (BC) of pests through the use of natural enemies is an outstanding strategy. Biological control by generalist predators has had a highlighted relevance in the last decade. This strategy by augmentation demands mass rearing of these organisms. In the Neotropical Region Chrysoperla externa (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) is of great importance for its high voracity and its wide range of hosts. The aim of this study was to describe the external changes of the eggs, especially in colour and shape, associated with the intrachorionic development of C. externa embryos, to characterize them morpho-colorimetrically. A practical key from its embryonic development determination was constructed as a tool for mass rearing technique, providing valuable information that could facilitate BC implementation for IPM programs in developing regions.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43839981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
