Flies were collected using banana baited traps fermented with live yeast, in sandy areas with abundant presence of cactus in the interior of the island. The absence of cultivated host plants, e.g., fruit crops, and the small population of humans inhabiting the island make the presence of D. suzukii in this wildlife refuge unexpected. Previous detection of this fly in South America happened mostly within commercial fruit orchards and/or neighboring fields.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45749410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One single specimen of this species was reared from a nest of Isodontia costipennis (Spinola) (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae) in the province of Formosa and others were captured in southern Misiones province, and others housed in entomological collections from the provinces Chaco, Santiago del Estero and Santa Fe. Data about the biology of Toxophora leucon Séguy from individuals reared in nests of Cyphomenes anisitsii (Brèthes), Pachodyneurs guadulpensis (Saussure) and Zethus dicomboda (Spinola) (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Eumeninae) in the province of Formosa are also reported. The current experiment was carried out to assess the antixenosis and antibiosis level of fifteen rice genotypes against S. furcifera under greenhouse conditions. In antixenosis studies, proportion of nymphs and adults settled was recorded in relation to control. Less preferred varieties by nymphs were RPP49 (3.80), N22 (5.60), IR 64 (6.20), IR 72 (6.60), Basmati Pak (6129) (5.40), and Super Basmati (5.00) as compared to TN1 (12.00). Lower number of eggs were laid on RPP49, N22, IR 64, Super Basmati and PKBB 8. Based on feeding marks the genotypes ranked from highest to lowest as RPP49, N22, IR 64, IR 72 and Basmati Pak. In antibiosis tests, RPP49, N22, IR64, IR 72, Super Basmati and Basmati Pak varieties performed well as compared to TN1. Minimum feeding rate (47.8 mm2) was recorded on RPP49 followed by N22, IR 64, IR74, Basmati Pak, Super Basmati, PKBB 8, PK 10684 and PK 10436 as compared to TN1(470.8 mm2). The results revealed that RPP49 emerged as the new resistant source against S. furcifera. Super Basmati, Basmati Pak have shown a moderate level of resistance while PKBB 8, PK 10684 and PK 10436 are new varieties with a moderate level of resistance to S. furcifera which can be used as resistance source in breeding programs against S. furcifera.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41622125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Flower flies (Diptera: Syrphidae) are potentially useful organisms for the diverse ecosystem services they provide. We studied syrphids collected in a Pampean agroecosystem to assess richness, abundance, host plants, and the ecosystem services they could offer. Flower flies were represented by three subfamilies, eight tribes, 17 genera, and 26 species/morphospecies. Adults of these flies visited flowers of 44 species of wild and/or cultivated plants and exhibited a generalist interaction pattern. Larvae of the most abundant species were predators (mainly soft-bodied Hemiptera) and/or decomposers/aquatic filters. Only one species was pollinivorous. Our results, together with the scarce published bibliography, suggest that the syrphid communities of the highly modified Pampean region are composed of a few very abundant species and many rare or low representative species.","PeriodicalId":54250,"journal":{"name":"Revista De La Sociedad Entomologica Argentina","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48463034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
