Skinnera, Ericha S. Fromma oraz Carla R. Rogersa – trzech badaczy, którzy w XX wieku przywrócili rozważania o woli w psychologii zarówno amerykańskiej, jak i światowej. \u0000PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Zadano pytanie badawcze o możliwe czynniki mające wpływ na rozwój idei woli, determinizmu i indeterminizmu, a także ich związku z postrzeganiem człowieka (maszyna poddana kontroli środowiska versus żywa istota dokonująca świadomego wyboru). Analiza została wykonana z użyciem autorskiego Teoretycznego Narzędzia Badawczego, na pod- stawie metody kontekstu konstrukcji (context of construction) stworzonej przez Kurta Danzigera (1990), przedstawiciela nowej historii psychologii. \u0000PROCES WYWODU: Perspektywa nowej historii psychologii, będąca niejako poszerzeniem Runyana (1992) metody psychobiograficznej z wykorzystaniem założeń psychologii krytycznej, pozwoliła na zapoznanie się z koncepcjami Skinnera, Fromma i Rogersa z uwzględnieniem ich życiorysów. Sasin","doi":"10.35765/hw.2023.2262.15","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35765/hw.2023.2262.15","url":null,"abstract":"RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is to analyze the impact of the sound environment on human well-being during rapid changes to the audiosphere. \u0000THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: What changes in the audiosphere took place during the lockdown? How were they perceived by the respondents, taking into account their well- being? The research material was free-form interviews focused on the problem, with elements of expert interviews conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. \u0000THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The research analysis focused on the respondents’ perception of changes in the audiosphere during the lockdown and the impact of these changes on their well-being. Attention was paid to the similarities and differences in the perception of the sound environment and the reasons for these differences. \u0000RESEARCH RESULTS: All interviewees reported changes in the sound environment during the pandemic and an impact on their well-being. The intensity of changes varied, depending on the place of residence and previous lifestyle. In addition to the negative changes, there were positive ones, such as less traffic noise, more sounds of nature, and new inspiring sound phenomena. The psychological (focusing on oneself and one’s body, encouragement to meditation) and artistic (artistic inspiration) potential of the new sound environment was noted. \u0000CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The reflective potential brought about by the changes to the audiosphere during the pandemic has not yet been used. Experiences from the pandemic can help care for the soundscape and plan possible modifications to it in order to improve people’s health and well-being. More research on functioning after returning to the previous sound environment is needed. {"title":"Images of the Body and Corporeality of Indigenous Australians at the Dawn of the 21st Century (Based on Bruce Chatwin’s Perspective and Selected Films)","authors":"Jakub Żmidziński","doi":"10.35765/hw.2023.2262.04","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35765/hw.2023.2262.04","url":null,"abstract":"RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The research objective of this article is to examine what image of Indigenous Australians emerges from Bruce Chatwin’s well-known novel The Songlines (1987/2008) and selected films produced at the turn of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries also dealing with Australian Aboriginal culture. \u0000THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The analysis of the literary and cinematic work will be carried out here from an anthropological and postcolonial perspective, and is also part of a broadly defined somapoetics. \u0000THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: In the first part, the author focuses on the way female and male characters are portrayed. In the second part, he analyses more complex portraits, those of artists, hunters, ‘actors’ and strong personalities, before concluding with the theme of death. \u0000RESEARCH RESULTS: When analysed, Chatwin’s novel appears to be a text with many omissions, presenting a selective image, marked by the author’s ethnocentrism and his insufficiently insightful approach to cultural differences. Earlier films also fail to portray these in a credible way. Later films, however, not only deepen the understanding of historical and contemporary conditions, but also give the floor to representatives of this oldest culture in the world. \u0000CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The conclusions of the analysis of the material studied encourage a more critical reading of Chatwin’s novel. The findings are part of a larger project on learning to be old. \u0000THE PROBLEM AND RESEARCH METHODS: The main research problem is understanding how strategies, actions, and attitudes toward one’s body differ among the study participants in various agency areas. The study is based on a constructivist paradigm and grounded theory methodology. \u0000THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Four fields of the agency have been presented on a continuum, where on one side, forces are pushing a person towards dependence, while on the other side, there is the individual’s independence. These areas were identified during the analysis of empirical data and allow for a departure from judgmental approaches to aging, serving as model areas for the functioning of an older adult . These areas were used to reflect on the embodiment of older people. Finally, the embodiment category was placed within broader structures such as discourses, concepts, and theoretical knowledge about aging and getting old. \u0000RESEARCH RESULTS: The findings indicate the multidimensional nature of the aging body. Different strategies, actions, and attitudes towards one’s embodiment are activated depending on the individual’s life situation and social position. \u0000CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Embodiment occupies a special place in learning to be old. It is one of the primary regulators of this process. As it turns out, self-identification is primarily related to the body. The word identity may be defined as identicality at a given time and place . The problem of identity is analyzed on the social plan. \u0000THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The text presents the definitions of the concepts used, the theoretical foundations and historical outline. \u0000RESEARCH RESULTS: When describing the identity of a subject from the socjological, psychological and biological perspective, we come to the conclusion that while the brain is responsible for our mental life, it is neither the only nor sufficient condition of awareness and self-awareness. It is pointed out that the features which constitute identity are rationality, self-awareness, coherence and stability. The problem of identity analyzed on the narrative, linguistic and social plane also calls for assertions made on the ethical plane. The contemporary discourse on identity most often emphasizes its changeability, instability, and its Protean nature. \u0000CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMRNDATIONS: In the analyzes presented in this article, the concept of identification is emphasized, replacing the word identity, because it is more operational and coexists with the concept of social ties, community of interests and the common good. W badaniu zastosowano metodę analityczno-syntetyczną przeglądu literatury przedmiotu z zakresu socjologii. \u0000PROCES WYWODU: Artykuł koncentruje się na obcości jako opozycji swojskości. Omówiono różne typy obcości (wewnętrzna, zewnętrzna, względna, radykalna) oraz role, w jakich pojawia się obcy (gość, wróg, uchodźca). Następnie przedstawiono sposoby praktykowania gościnności w wybranych epokach i kulturach, wyjaśniając społeczne znaczenie reguł i praw gościnności. Za- prezentowano najnowsze dyskusje dotyczące związków gościnności z prawem i władzą oraz potrzebą kształtowania postaw otwartości i troski. \u0000WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Rosnąca wielokulturowość społeczeństw i intensywność proce- sów migracyjnych zmuszają do refleksji nad sposobami traktowania obcych: jako gości, ryzyka czy nieuchronności. Pilne jest znalezienie rozwiązań uwzględniających prawa gospodarzy do ochrony własnego terytorium oraz ochronę praw imigrantów. Avsec","doi":"10.35765/hw.2023.2261.11","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35765/hw.2023.2261.11","url":null,"abstract":"RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: This article aims to map the stereotypical image of Ukrainians and Russians from a cross-cultural perspective in the context of the ongoing armed conflict. \u0000RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem concerns the cultural differences that are revealed in the perception of representatives of the two nationalities that are involved in the armed conflict. Since stereotypical judgements are most often revealed in language, an adjective check list was used for the study. A sample of 92 Polish and Slovenian students took part in the study. The collected linguistic material was used to analyse and compare cross-cultural stereotypical judgements about Ukrainian and Russian citizens. \u0000THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The argument begins with theoretical perspectives on the concept of stereotyping and the process of stereotyping. The role of language in the stereotyping process is analysed. An analysis of the results and conclusions is presented. \u0000RESEARCHRESULTS: In general, Polish students attribute fewer positive adjectives than Slovenian students to both Ukrainians and Russians. The analysis revealed significant statistical differences as well as similarities between the researched groups of Polish and Slovenian students in terms of the stereotypical image of Ukrainians and Russians. \u0000CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS: Empirical evidence shows that Polish and Slovenian students have more in common in their perception of Russians, while they perceive Ukrainians quite differently. The linguistic characteristics obtained in this study provide a general insight into the perceptions of the two nationalities involved in the war. It should also be noted that these characteristics of Ukrainians and Russians may constitute socially important knowledge on the negative stereotypes about these nationalities.
