The data source was the utterances of the lecturer in teaching Communicative English Grammar. The data were collected by recording what the lecturer uttered in teaching-learning process and interviewing the lecturer to gain information about the functions of switching and mixing his code in teaching-learning process. Then, the collected data were classified and analyzed based on the types of code-switching and code-mixing and the functions based on the theory of Hoffman. The results showed that:1)The types of code-switching used by the lecturer of Communicative English Grammar in teaching and learning process were: inter-sentential, intra-sentential, and emblamatic/tag switching, and establishing continuity with the previous speaker. while for the types of code-mixing were: intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing, and involving a change of pronunciation; 2) The Functions or reasons of using both code-switching and code-mixing by the lecturer of Communicative English Grammar were: Repetition used for clarification, Intention of clarifying the speech content for students, and interjection. The findings implied that both code-switching and code-mixing were used by the communicative English grammar lecturer in English teaching-learning process, so it showed that both code-switching and code-mixing are necessary to facilitate ELT particularly in complicated subjets like grammar. This article attempts to study the usage of language associated with semantic extensions in comments left by internet users on the Instagram account of Karin Novilda, also known as Awkarin (@narinkovilda), one of the Instagram influencers or celebrities. It uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings demonstrated that semantic expansions took place in internet users' remarks on the celebgram's Instagram account. This expansion of meaning is probably due to technological advancements and the quickening pace of life. Language users that utilize the internet are also impacted by the world around them. The growth of meaning further demonstrates that language is in fact static and not dynamic. Language has a number of advantages, including the ability to live and develop continually as long as its users continue to use it, and the ability to change its meaning at the user's discretion. In other words, there are no constraints on the language, allowing it to grow and alter to meet the demands of its users. Another concrete example of how language is arbitrarily constructed and how it develops is the phenomena of meaning extension. The researchers used a descriptive comparative qualitative method. The researchers listened, took notes, and documented the voice recordings of male students from the Sundanese and Javanese ethnic groups when reading the Qur'an to collect research data and analyse it using Praat software version 6.2.13. From the results of the recordings, Sundanese-speaking students and Javanese speakers would then be compared with reference speakers, namely Syekh Sa'ad Al-ghamidi, who has the capability of reciting verses from the Qur'an. The research results indicated phonological interference in the phoneme [q] when Sundanese and Javanese male students read the Qur'an. The factor contributing to the occurrence of pronunciation errors in the phoneme [q] was the transfer of SL and JL elements when using AL. Errors occurred due to deviations from the proper language rules. The research is expected to have positive implications, minimizing interference and increasing fluency in reading the Qur'an.","PeriodicalId":53061,"journal":{"name":"Language Literacy Journal of Linguistics Literature and Language Teaching","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43252859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By examining these errors, teachers can develop effective solutions to reduce, eliminate or improve them. The purpose of this study was to investigate the grammatical errors made by senior high school students when composing recount texts. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach by analysing a corpus of 30 essays written by 15 students. Utilizing Dulay, Burt, Krashen's (1982) framework of surface structure taxonomy for data analysis, the results reveal that students committed errors in four categories: disinformation, misordering, omission, and addition (ordered accordingly from the most to the least produced one). This study implies that recognizing students' writing errors may assist teachers in determining the focus of their instruction in order to enhance student’s learning to a better condition.","PeriodicalId":53061,"journal":{"name":"Language Literacy Journal of Linguistics Literature and Language Teaching","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46111468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most well-known novelist of the Victorian era, Charles Dickens will be one of the authors covered in this paper through his story To be Taken with a Grain of Salt, and the other one is Mary Elizabeth Braddon’s story Eveline’s Visitant. Dickens and Braddon particularly make use of the grotesque elements to convey their ideas and ideals through satire, comedy, tragedy, suspense, and a sense of fear, gloom, and obscurity. The research results show that both tales can be regarded as significant Victorian grotesque literature since they share, in various ways, elements of the grotesque notion. The real meaning of the grotesque is only exposed by itself-contradictory nature with the opposite, which is in this sense the ideal. Both stories are based on the main contrast between the spiritual and material worlds. They attempt to persuade us that there is yet another mysterious force that, despite the efforts to conceal it in the physical world, it exposes human wrongdoing. Thus, abnormal human beings, ghostly figures, and terrifying events will be detected through which grotesque elements are found.","PeriodicalId":53061,"journal":{"name":"Language Literacy Journal of Linguistics Literature and Language Teaching","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43422039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
