Parents of a child with DS were the primary participants of this study. Merriam’s case study approach was utilized as a research design. Multiple data sources were considered, such as interview transcripts and observation notes during the actual interview. The results show that parents exerted more effort to ensure their children's educational success amidst the pandemic. The findings of the study reveal parents' efforts to catch the attention of their children during the delivery of learning at home. Although parents struggled to extend their children's limited attention span, they managed to find suitable strategies to keep their focus, like using different reinforcements and utilizing videos from social media platforms to teach their children. It is recommended that parents or guardians of children with DS consider pieces of training on how to effectively facilitate their children's learning process. Special Education (SPED) teachers must guide the parents on how to facilitate learning at home together with the school principal, who could initiate teaching pedagogy seminars and training for parents. The seminars and training would help parents and guardians facilitate their child's learning process.","PeriodicalId":52740,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Theory and Application in Elementary and Secondary School Education IJTAESE","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46331530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Status of Peace Club Activities in Public Secondary Schools within Kisumu County, Kenya","authors":"J. Owande","doi":"10.31098/ijtaese.v4i2.835","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31098/ijtaese.v4i2.835","url":null,"abstract":"The occurrence of student unrest has been on the rise in Kenya and beyond. This has prompted the introduction of Peace Clubs in Kenyan schools. However, despite these efforts, many schools still experience student unrest. This study, therefore, sought to examine the status of Peace Club activities in schools. The study used a theoretical framework informed by contingency theory and integrative negotiations, and peer mediation theory. The study applied a descriptive survey research design with a sample size of 584 respondents. The researcher used focus group discussions, interviews, and questionnaires to collect primary data, while reviewed publications and reports from the County Director of Education office were used to obtain secondary data. The study applied to content and face validity checks to ascertain the relevance of the research data collection instruments, while reliability was ascertained using the split-half method. The data were then cleaned and coded using descriptive statistics, and the results were presented using frequency distribution tables, percentages, pie charts, and bar graphs. The study found that Peace Club activities didn't exist in most of the schools; most students didn't know about Peace Club activities. In schools where they existed, most of them were not active. It was concluded that the nonexistence and/or inactivity of Peace Clubs activities contributed to the student unrest experienced in schools. The study recommended a modification of the existing policy on the creation of Peace Clubs in schools and the conduction of regular supervision to ensure full implementation of Peace Clubs in schools.","PeriodicalId":52740,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Theory and Application in Elementary and Secondary School Education IJTAESE","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45265262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main focus of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the skills-based learning material for English 9. This study used the pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design, which falls under the quasi-experimental design. On the test of significant difference between the formative mean scores of the experimental and comparison groups, it was found out that the formative tests had a significant effect on the respondents' learning performance at p 0.01 level. Additionally, the posttest mean scores of each group; got the 0.01 level of significance, as well as the pretest and posttest mean scores of each group. Moreover, based on the computed Cohen's d value of 1.16, the effect size of the learning material to the students' performance is large compared to the comparison group that shows a small effect size at 0.31 Cohen's d value. Generally, there is a significant difference between the formative test of the two groups with the average and high mean scores, respectively. There is also a significant difference between the posttest mean scores of the two groups and as well between the pre-test and post-test mean scores. Moreover, Cohen's effect size value of 1.16 suggested a large effect of the material on the respondents' learning performance. As for recommendations, there is a need for the teacher to incorporate the 21st Century Skills into learning competencies.\u0000 ","PeriodicalId":52740,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Theory and Application in Elementary and Secondary School Education IJTAESE","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49088672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study assessed the effectiveness of Genyo-E-Learning in Online Distance Learning through a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. Pupils have matched accordingly with their Mathematics grades in the third-grading period. Pretest underwent KR20 and Levene’s Test of Homogeneity of Variance to see if the covariate is reliable and groups are at the same level. As shown in the Schema of Classes, the researcher designed two lesson outlines with different structures for the intact groups covering the topic: Circumference of a Circle. The lesson for the Control Group was delivered through the Conventional Virtual Lecture Method, while the Experimental Group had Genyo E-Learning as an aid for transmission. The post-test scores were the basis as to what group the significant difference favors. Post-tests were treated with ANCOVA at a 0.05 significance level. The researcher used the National Achievement Test Descriptive Equivalence Table to determine groups' mastery level and used the Evaluation Form on the Excerpts of Online Classes to evaluate the degree of pupils' interactivity toward the lesson. Mathematics Achievement of pupils taught with Genyo E-Learning is greater than that of Conventional Virtual Lecture Method teaching and rated Very Satisfactorily and Satisfactorily respectively based on Interactivity Evaluation. More pupils from the Experimental Group achieved Mastered Level based on the Achievement Level Scale. Genyo E-Learning Systems could improve Mathematics Achievement in the New Normal Education System.","PeriodicalId":52740,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Theory and Application in Elementary and Secondary School Education IJTAESE","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44391762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, stakeholders’ support for basic education and the school’s implementation in Laguna cluster for the school year 2020-2021 are also determined in this study. Descriptive correlational design was utilized in which 650 individuals served as respondents who are a combination of school heads, master teachers, and teachers in the city schools’ division in Laguna. The result of the study revealed that there is a significant and positive correlation between stakeholder support and the degree of basic education delivery in the new normal, according to Pearson's Coefficient of Correlation. Stakeholder support for the implementation of basic education in the new normal was moderated by school size and demonstrated a high substantial relationship in terms of Learning Environment, Learning Support, Technology Support, Training and Development, and Direct Assistance. The use of regression coefficient showed that there is an immersive impact of school size on programs and tools in the delivery of basic education in the modern normal. On the other hand, there is no discernible interactive impact on the school scale. Hence, the empirical findings of the study were the basis of the researcher for the creation of a comprehensive contingency intervention plan. The Stakeholders’ Management and Engagement Primer (SMEP) was crafted and recommended to all school leaders to bridge the gap between the stakeholders’ support and the schools participating in the new normal adoption of basic education in Laguna cluster, Philippines.","PeriodicalId":52740,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Theory and Application in Elementary and Secondary School Education IJTAESE","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41922950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also aimed to develop a compendium of best practices to help the school leaders in addressing the difficulties they are encountering in the new normal. This qualitative research utilized phenomenology as an approach. There are 10 outstanding school heads - participants who were chosen through purposive sampling by which the participants share common experiences. The researcher used validated semi-structured interview guide questions as the main instrument, and a one-on-one interview was conducted in order to obtain meaningful data. The data were transcribed and coded for the researcher to come up with the emerging themes. The themes that emerged from the testimonies of the participants were clustered into a superordinate theme: Plugged in surveillance, evince reciprocity, paradigmatic positive alacrity, and fondness of diversity. Moreover, a compendium of best practices was developed to provide opportunities and tools for the school leaders in addressing and meeting the challenges in the new normal in education. The results of the study can be used by the school heads in addressing the challenges that they are facing in different circumstances like this pandemic. Their roles are becoming broader and spiced up by some complications brought about by the need to be more responsive and able to maintain the quality characteristics of basic education services primarily wielded out by teachers and with the support of local stakeholders in these most trying times of pandemic. A compendium of best practices is necessary since it will serve as the guide of the school heads in providing solutions to the existing problems because of the pandemic, and at the same time, it will be their framework in replicating and adapting the best practices shared by the participants.","PeriodicalId":52740,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Theory and Application in Elementary and Secondary School Education IJTAESE","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46215115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
