This study aims to analyze and compare the effects of COVID-19 quarantining on body mass between combat and aesthetic sports athletes. Material and methods 150 male athletes, in the age group of 20-23 years old, participated in this study. They were grouped into two. The first consisted of 100 combat sports athletes, including boxing (n=25), Judo (n=20), Karate (n=20), Taekwondo (n=20), and Pencak Silat (n=15). The second group was comprised of 50 aesthetic sports athletes, including aerobic (n=20), artistic gymnastics (n=15), and diving (n=15). This study focused on two parts: body mass measurement before the large-scale social restrictions in DKI Jakarta was implemented (Pre-LSCR) and body mass measurement during the large-scale social restrictions in DKI Jakarta (During-LSCR). A Life Satisfaction (LS) questionnaire was administered to all participants During-LSCR. Results The LS questionnaire showed a higher level of the “very satisfying” response in aesthetic sports athletes regarding doing sports During-LSCR (90%), compared to that in combat sports athletes (16%). On the other hand, there were significant differences in body mass (p = 0.001) and body fat percentage (p = 0.001) between combat sports and aesthetic sports athletes. Conclusions This study shows that aesthetic sports lighter than combat sports during the 20- day quarantine period in the COVID-19 pandemic.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71061924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aimed to investigate the efficacy of neural mobilization (NM) combined with CP on cervical posture, pain functionality in patients with cervical disc herniation (CDH). Material and methods: Sixty patients with CDH and radicular pain participated in this randomized controlled study. They were randomly allocated into two groups. The control group (n = 30) received CP (hotpack, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, ultrasound), and the experimental group (n = 30) received CP plus NM on the radial, median and ulnar nerves. Both groups received the CP for three weeks (15 sessions). The experimental group received the neural mobilization technique for three weeks (3 sessions per week). The demographic data, severity of pain (by Visual Analog Scale), cervical active range of motion degree, and cervical posture data (by Tragus to Wall test, Measurement of C7 to Wall Distance) have been recorded. Neck Disability Index (NDI) was applied to all participants for functionality. Results: The distance between tragus and the wall decreased in the experimental group (p < 0.05), whereas there was not any significant difference in the distance between C7 and the wall (p > 0.05). The scores of pain and cervical active range of motion were found different in favor of the experimental group (p < 0.05). The NDI scores were similar in both groups (p > 0.05). Conclusion: CP together with NM techniques will provide additional gains in cervical posture, pain, and active range of motion in patients diagnosed with cervical disc herniation.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71062013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to evaluate the development of sleep disturbances in a population of individuals hospitalized in intensive rehabilitation units and to investigate relationship with functional independence. Material and methods: The sample was evaluated with the General Sleep Disturbance Scale (GSDS-IT) and Bartel Index (IcaBI) three times: at admission (t0), seven days after admission (t1), and 25 days after admission (t2). The variation in sleep quality between t0-t1-t2 was calculated by performing a paired samples t-test between the scores’ averages. A comparison of the functional independence level evaluated thorugh IcaBI of subjects with and without sleep disorders according to GSDS-IT cut-off points was performed via an independent samples t-test between the averages of the scores obtained on the IcaBI at times t0 and t2. Results: 138 individuals were included in the study, 77 of whom completed the evaluation at t2. Comparison of the mean scores on the GSDS-IT showed a statistically significant worsening of the quality of sleep between t0-t1-t2 (p < 0.01). Comparison of the mean scores on the IcaBI showed a statistically significant improvement in functional independence between t0-t1-t2 (p < 0.01). The results showed no significant difference between those with or without sleep disorders in terms of improvement of IcaBI scores after 25 days of hospitalization. Conclusions: This study represent a starting point in highlighting the development of sleep disturbances during hospitalization in rehabilitation units, raising awareness about the importance of adequate sleep among vulnerable hospital population.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71062361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is believed that the main cause of DRA is the extensive stretching of the abdominal wall resulting from pregnancy; yet the condition is also found in men and in children. There are several, seemingly mutually exclusive, DRA risk factors, such as the pathological abdominal muscle tension and chronic exercise deficits. The aim of the study was to determine the factors affecting the size of DRA in postpartum women. Material and methods: The study involved 239 postpartum women. The study was conducted with the use of an online survey. The subjects completed the DRA test, the Beighton test and International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Results: The analysis found DRA in majority of studied women (60.7%). The relationship between the BMI index and DRA was statistically significant (p = 0.01). The relationship between surgeries in the abdominal cavity and the DRA was statistically significant, too (p = 0.05). We showed that DRA correlates with other pelvic dysfunctions (p = 0.03). Conclusions: The most significant risk factors for diastasis recti abdominis in postpartum women are abnormal BMI and surgeries to the abdominal cavity. Diastasis recti abdominis correlates with other dysfunctions, such as: spinal pain, urinary incontinence, peristaltic disorders, sexual disorders, abdominal hernia, groin hernia, lowering of the lesser pelvis organs. Further studies into DRA risk factors under close supervision of a physiotherapist are necessary.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"35 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71061448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is no causal treatment of GJH, therefore the therapy should be based on the individual needs of patients after the comprehensive diagnostic of body posture. The occurrence of deformities of lower limbs in people with GJH should be an indication for the therapy. The aim of this study was the assessment of the impact of Generalized Joint Hypermobility on the lower limbs position. Materials and methods: The research was conducted on 30 children, aged 7–13 (10.1 ± 1.7), 51 adults aged 20–29 (23.2 ± 1.6). The study included the assessment of external and internal rotation of hips, tibial torsion, axis of lower limbs, longitudinal and transverse arch of the feet. Females with ≥5 and males with ≥4 scores in the Beighton test were included in the GJH groups. Results: Both children and adults with GJH presents higher internal rotation of hips in comparison to the control group (p = 0.03 for right and p = 0.00 for left side, and p = 0.00 for right and p = 0.00 for left side, for children and adults, respectively). Children with GJH obtained higher values of the Clarke angle for the right foot compared to the control group (p = 0.00). Conclusions: Regardless of age, subjects with Generalized Joint Hypermobility are characterized by higher internal rotation of the hip compared to healthy controls. Children with GJH present a higher longitudinal arch of the feet compared to peers, but the results fall within the normative ranges.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71061875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Apart from exercise training, little evidence supports the use of complementary therapies such as pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) in PAD management despite its favorable cardiovascular effects. Therefore, this study aimed to assess effects of PEMF on treadmill walking performance and ankle-brachial index (ABI) in men with PAD. Material and methods: Thirty male patients aged from 45 to 65 years with Fontaine stage II PAD were assigned to two groups; an experimental and a control group. Exclusion criteria were: Fontaine stage I, III and IV PAD; contraindications to exposure to electromagnetic fields; coronary artery, heart or chest disease; and orthopedic/neurological limitations to treadmill exercise test. Both groups received pharmacological treatment and dietary instructions, but only the experimental group received an eight-week PEMF (frequency: 15 Hz; intensity: 20 Gauss; duration: 60 minutes) three sessions per week. A treadmill graded exercise test (GXT) was performed at baseline and post-intervention. The primary outcomes were walking parameters derived from the GXT (i.e., peak walk distance/walk time and pain-free walk distance/walk time), and the secondary outcome was the ABI. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvements in the GXT outcomes compared to baseline and controls (p < 0.01), and a significant increase in the ABI compared to baseline (p < 0.01) that approached significance compared to the controls (p = 0.012). Conclusions: PEMF therapy could be suggested as a beneficially rehabilitative intervention, complementary to pharmacological treatment and dietary advice, that could help improve physical functional performance and ABI in men with Fontaine stage II PAD.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71062284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study was to assess the level of daily physical activity in patients after liver (LTx) or kidney transplantation (KTx) and the usefulness of a self-monitoring method in increasing their daily physical activity. Material and methods : Patients after LTx or KTx (n = 100) has been enrolled to the study and were randomly assi gned to either an intervention (IG) or control group (CG). Ninety-four participants completed the 3 month period of ob -servation. Participants assigned to IG were monitoring their daily physical activity using a pedometer and were required to complete a diary of daily number of steps. The level of physical activity was also assessed by International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). In the statistical analysis the parametric and non-parametric tests has been used in consi stency with data distribution. A value of p ≤ 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The average daily number of steps in pre/posttest in both study groups was less than 7600. The study showed a significant relationship between the average daily number of steps and daily Total Physical Activity Score TPAS/day [MET-min/day] (p < 0.001; r = 0.57). The study did not revealed any effects of intervention. Conclusions: Daily physical activity in patients after KTx or LTx is low, but it does not differ from healthy population (<7500 steps). The purpose of the study was to gather opinions of women using wheelchairs on the subject concerning the degree of adaptation of gynaecological offices for their needs. Material and methods: The study group included 120 women with motor disability, moving with use of a wheelchair. The most common causes of disability of the studied women were: spinal cord injury (31.7%) and cerebral palsy (29.2%). The study was conducted with use of an original survey questionnaire consisting of 20 questions on the subject matter and 6 questions about respondent’s particulars. Results: The study has shown that 20% of women have never visited a gynaecologist and 66.7% of them indicated a difficulty to find an appropriately adapted doctor’s office to be the cause of this situation. In a 0–5 scale, the women who had gynaecological visits most commonly rated the adjustment of gynaecology consultation rooms in their places of residence as 0 (40% of women). 75% of women answered that accessibility of the gynaecology consultation rooms affects the frequency of their visits at a gynaecologist. Conclusions: Based on the studied group of women, difficult access to gynaecology consultation rooms adapted to the needs of women on wheelchairs was found. Modification of the environment by removal of the most common barriers and creation of an accessible environment is important for appropriate gynaecological prophylaxis in women using wheelchairs.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"34 1","pages":"25-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71060231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This affects daily life activities adversely. In medicine, muscle strength measurements are usually performed with Nicholas Manual Muscle Test (NMMT) or with the Manual Muscle Test (MMT) by physiotherapists, whereas, in other fields, scientists have difficulty to find suitable tests for measurement of muscle strength. The aim of this study is to investigate whether alternative tests can be used to assess muscle strength in IDS instead of medical tests. Material and methods: In the city of Adana of Turkey, 30 IDS from various Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers and 85 Typically Developing Individuals (TDI) from various secondary schools participated in the study voluntarily. Lower extremity strength was evaluated with NMMT, Leg Dynamometer Test (LDT), MMT and 30-second Chair Stand Test (30s-CST). The Mann Whitney U Test and Spearman’s Rank Correlation were used in statistical analysis. Results: By using different methods, it was determined that the lower extremity strength assessment measurements correlated positively with each other. Especially, the 30s-CST correlated with the ratio of 0.62 with LDT, while the LDT correlated with the gluteus maximus Manual Muscle Test (right-left) ratio of 0.66–0.64, respectively. Conclusion: As a remarkable result, low muscle strength was not measured with NMMT. For this reason, we can emphasize that the muscle development measurements of IDS with low muscle strength should be made by using 30s-CST or LDT with NMMT together.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"34 1","pages":"1-12"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71060839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although its effectiveness in these areas is confirmed by numerous studies, not all the studies are conclusive and many results are inconsistent. The purpose of this study was to evaluate abdominal muscle activity in people practicing Pilates and to examine the influence of Pilates exercises on core muscle activity. Material and methods: Sixty three participants were divided into two groups. The study group (Pilates group) consisted of 50 adults (48 women and 2 men: age = 47.2 ± 12.7 years) and the control group (Non-exercising group) consisted of 13 adults (10 women and 3 men: age = 37.1 ± 13.4 years). Both groups took part in two tests: transverse abdominis (TRA) muscle activity test in the prone position and the lumbar spine stability test while moving the lower limbs in the supine position. The equipment used in the study was the Pressure Biofeedback Stabilizer (PBS). Results: The results showed no significant differences between the groups, both in the TRA muscle activity test and in the lumbar spine stability test. Conclusions: Pilates exercises do not influence the activity of the TRA muscle or the core stability as assessed by the Pressure Biofeedback Stabilizer. However, in the study group the high percentage of positive results and the relatively low percentage of poor results obtained in the TRA muscle activity test encourage further research in this area.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"34 1","pages":"22-28"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71061262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
