A decrease in physical activity and fitness levels as well as fear or depression increase the frequency of hospitalisation and mortality rate among elderly persons. Moreover, these factors significantly reduce the quality of life. The aim of the study was to determine changes in elderly women’s perception of their quality of life that occurred over a period of 3 months of attending regular classes. In addition, the study sought to identify factors that would make it possible to predict these changes. Material and methods: The study included 56 women aged 58 to 85 (M=69.54; SD=6.578). Their quality of life was assessed with an abbreviated version of WHOQOL -Bref questionnaire. Severity of depressive symptoms was examined with the use of the Geriatric Depression Scale (a 15-item version). In order to determine physical fitness levels, FFF Test was carried out. Results: The examined group manifested changes in the depression indicator, i.e. its levels decreased significantly. A considerable increase in self-rated health was observed. There occurred a significant increase in the women’s perception of their quality of life in social and environmental domains. No significant changes in the quality of life were noted in physical and psychological domains as well as in overall satisfaction with the quality of life. Conclusions: The findings suggest that attending classes at the UTA may produce benefits in the field of psychological health and life quality, and their scope may depend on the initial state of physical health and physical fitness. Currently practitioners are looking for methods allowing for quick assessment of patients’ health before advising prevention or treatment. This paper examines the Functional Pain Index (FPI), a tool conceived by the authors, and compares the results with the results of the anamnesis and physical examination conducted by a physiotherapist. Material and methods: Sample group consisted of 206 workers with disability certificate who have been experiencing low back pain (LBP). Each person went through physiotherapeutic examination, it was concluded by a decision to either qualify them for prevention program or advise LBP treatment. This result was compared with the FPI questionnaire and qualification based on the result produced by the questionnaire. Results: The FPI based on three variables embedded in the questionnaire showed no statistically significant difference compared to a similar index based on the documentation produced by physiotherapeutic examination. Following the latter, 87 persons were qualified for prevention programs, with the FPI in this group ranging on average from 31.9 to 36.8 points, depending on the applied FPI variant. 119 persons were advised physiotherapeutic treatment or medical consultation, with the FPI in this group ranging from 51.8 to 57.5 points. It has been also shown that there is a statistically significant correlation between a decision of a physiotherapist to advise LBP prevention program and the FPI score in all its variants (p<0.001). Conclusions: High consistency between the FPI based on the questionnaire and the index based on physiotherapeutic examination shows that the questionnaire is highly reliable. The FPI questionnaire can be a good alternative for qualifying patients for prevention programs, with questionnaire-based qualification for prevention program triggered in 0-40% range of the FPI. occupational disease, work-related musculoskeletal disorders, low back pain, Functional Pain Index validity email: zbigniewwronski@gmail.com The research was financed from the authors’ own resources Badania sfinansowane ze środków własnych autorów Rehabilitation Advances in Rehabilitation/Postępy Rehabilitacji (4), 13 – 19, 2018 A – preparing concepts B – formulating methods C – conducting research D – processing results E – interpretation and conclusions F – editing the final version","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"19 1","pages":"13-19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71059220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of loosening tissues located on the plantar side of the foot on its longitudinal arching and on the range of the trunk forward bend. Material and methods: The study was conducted on 30 healthy volunteers, aged 18-25. They were divided into two groups and assigned to an experimental group (EG, n = 15) and a control group (CG, n = 15). Participants in both groups underwent three series of measurements including the measurement of the height of the navicular bone, the fingers-to-floor test and the podoscopic examination (Clarke’s angle). In between these measurements subjects from the EG performed a foam-rolling sequence. The subjects from the CG did not perform any intervention. Acute and chronic effect (2 weeks) of foam rolling was examined. Results: Changes in the Thomayer’s test results, Clarke’s angle values and the height of navicular bone values caused by the intervention did not show a statistically significant difference between the EG and CG (p>0.05). Conclusions: Foam rolling of the plantar side of the foot does not seem to influence the shape of the foot and the trunk forward bend range of motion. Further research is required to investigate the effects of foam rolling. flexibility, self-myofascial release, longitudinal foot arching email: kuba.olewinski@wp.pl Rehabilitation Advances in Rehabilitation/Postępy Rehabilitacji (1), 29–34, 2019 A – preparing concepts B – formulating methods C – conducting research D – processing results E – interpretation and conclusions F – editing the final version","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71059917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this research was to develop a new flexibility test to examine the forward split in athletes. Material and methods: In this study, 15 gymnasts, 10 Taekwondo athletes, 5 football players, and 10 karate athletes (20 males and 20 females) volunteered for this experiment and were evaluated in a common movement pattern, the forward split. In the experimental condition, participants performed the forward split on a mattress using infrared sensor technology (IST test), and, afterward, they performed the forward split on a mattress without infrared sensor technology (N-IST test). Two trials of this procedure were conducted. Results: For concurrent validity, no significant difference in the average distances of the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) from the mattress in Trials I and II was found between the IST and N-IST tests — p = 0.664 and p = 0.710, respectively. Conclusions: The findings of this study confirm the concurrent and construct validity of the IST test, which was created to measure the height of the ASIS from the mattress in a forward-split test. Thus, this test can be used by coaches, athletes, and sports scientists to improve and monitor the forward-split tests of athletes in training programs. muscle, athletes, sit and reach, parallax error, sports technology Infrared Sensor Technology (IST) Test as a Tool for Assessment of Flexibility Syahruddin Syahruddin1, A,F, Imam Safei Imam2, B-C, Lungit Lungit2, E, Ramdan Pelana Ramdan3, E, Bagus Winata Bagus3, D 1 Universitas Negeri Makassar 2 Universitas Negeri Lampung 3 Universitas Negeri Jakarta https://doi.org/10.5114/areh.2019.87743 A – preparing concepts B – formulating methods C – conducting research D – processing results E – interpretation and conclusions F – editing the final version Received: 2019-05-18 Accepted: 2019-06-16 email: fransiskusasisibaguswinata@gmail.com The research was financed from the authors’ own resources Rehabilitation Advances in Rehabilitation/Postępy Rehabilitacji (3), 5–9, 2019","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71059870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this work was an assessment of social competences found in professionally active physiotherapists working in Poland. Material and Methods: The study involved 121 physiotherapists: 32 men and 89 women, aged 25 to 49 years. We used Social Competences Questionnaire by Anna Matczak (KKS-A(D) to assess the level of social competence. Results: The study revealed that physiotherapists had a good level of social competence. 44.63% of the study population had average general social competence, and 14.05% had high general social competence. A significant proportion of the study population, had low level of social competence (41.32%). The level of competence in dealing with situations that involved intimacy, social contacts and assertiveness was similar. We found that younger physiotherapists coped better in intimate situations. Studied therapists who were eager to listen to their patients’ problems scored significantly higher on the competence scale that reflected effective behavior in social situations. Conclusions: Social competence of a therapist is an essential condition for them building appropriate rapport with patients, gives patients a sense of safety, and therefore significantly affects the effectiveness of the treatment. social competence, physiotherapist, professional work An analysis of social competences of professionally active physiotherapists in southeastern Poland – a pilot study Agnieszka Beata Ćwirlej-Sozańska1, A,C-F, Agnieszka Wiśniowska-Szurlej1, B-F, Gabriela Kołodziej1, B-D,F, Katarzyna Chmura1, B-C, Danuta Ochojska2, A,D-F, Anna Wilmowska-Pietruszyńska1, C,E-F, Bernard Sozański1, C-F University of Rzeszow","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71059451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process of the most intensive formation of the foot during the posturogenesis falls on the preschool age and early school age. The aim of the study was to characterize the arch of the feet in children at the age of 5 and to look for the dependence of their arching condition on the Cole’s index level. Material and methods: Forty-four preschool children took part in the research. The Cole’s index showed an underweight, normal body weight, overweight and obesity. The plantography method was used to assess the arching of the feet. Results: Over half of the examined children had normal body weight. Underweight was more common in the boys group, while overweight and obesity in girls. Ninety percent of children had abnormal longitudinal and transverse arches in both feet. The varus of the big toe and the valgus of the small toe was observed in both groups. The position of the heel was set correctly in majority of the participants. Conclusions: No relationship was found between the Cole’s index and longitudinal arches of the right and left foot in boys, as well as in girls. The results revealed that excessive body weight in girls was correlated with flattening of the transverse arch and incorrect position of the heel in the right foot. No significant correlation was found between the Cole’s index and the assessed parameters of the foot in boys. foot, child, physiotherapy, body weight email: martazdunek14@o2.pl The research was finances from the authors’ own resources Rehabilitation Advances in Rehabilitation/Postępy Rehabilitacji (2), 29–35, 2019 A – preparing concepts B – formulating methods C – conducting research D – processing results E – interpretation and conclusions F – editing the final version Received: 2019-01-27 Accepted: 2019-04-02","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71059791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
