When conservative treatment fails, surgical repair is necessary. Studies show that aquatic rehabilitation improves joint balance early in the initial stages after rotator cuff surgery and that the aquatic environment is a safe and protective environment for the integrity of the sutures. The aim of this study is to present an early, intensive and complementary aquatic rehabilitation protocol for arthroscopy of the rotator cuff. Materials and methods: Consensus was reached by the Delphi method. Twelve experts in aquatic rehabilitation were recruited to evaluate the proposed protocol. They were selected considering their experience in aquatic rehabilitation as well as their knowledge of the subject based on the expert competence coefficient. The questionnaires were completed online through a website created for this study. The questions were rated on a 5-point Likert scale, and a minimum threshold of 80% favourable responses was regarded as consensus. Results: Three sessions of 30 minutes of active functional exercises in the water for three weeks will achieve the proposed goals. Conclusions: The experts agreed on the early, intensive and complementary aquatic rehabilitation protocol following arthroscopic repair of the rotator cuff.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71063407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This trial compared Sheetali and Bhramari pranayama effects on serum cortisol, NO, the 30-second sit-to-stand test, diastolic and systolic blood pressures, and the life quality as assessed by the short form 12 survey in hypertensive elderly (aged ≥60 years old). The aim of this su - rvey was to determine which form of Bhramari or Sheetali is more efficient in improving the QOL in hypertensive patients. Material and methods: At Cairo University’s Faculty of Physical Therapy, sixty senior individuals were chosen, and were randomly distributed between the Sheetali category (30 patients) or the Bhramari category (30 patients). The daily 20-minute pranayama interventions lasted for a period of 12 weeks. Outcome measures: serum cortisol, serum NO, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), 30-second sit-to-stand test, and the SF12 QOL questionnaire were analyzed. Results: The post-comparison between groups showed considerable improvements in serum cortisol↓14.62%, serum NO↑45.12%, SBP↓13.43%, and DPB ↓7.69% in favor of the Sheetali group, with significant improvement in mental health ↑21.04% in the Bhramari group, and nearly the same changes in both groups in (30-second sit-to-stand test, SF12 QOL questionnaire (physical). Conclusions: Sheetali pranayama appears more effective for lowering SBP, DBP, serum cortisol, and increasing (NO) in hypertensive elderly but Bhramari pranayama appears more effective for increasing mental health (Sf12 QOL) in hypertensive elderly. Hence, Sheetali pranayama can be used as an adjuvant therapy to enhance physical fitness and health quality.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71063473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One approach to reducing balance impairments in this population is exercise training. This study presents a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effects of exercise training designed to improve balance ability in people with DS. A search for relevant articles was carried out on seven electronic databases: MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, Scopus, PEDro, and Web of Science. This systematic review was carried out between 2010 and 2022. Utilizing a set of predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, the studies were selected and their methodology was as-sessed using the PEDro scale. Data analyses were performed using the CMA v3 random effects model. In total, 514 articles were screened, and the data from 15 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving DS were subjected to a meta-analysis. The results showed that exercise training was effective in improving balance (ES: 1.20, 95% CIs: 0.95 to 1.53, p = 0.00). Despite the small number of studies, the findings suggest that exercise training might improve balance in children and young people with DS. In conclusion, exercise training is highly recommended for people with DS, to improve their balance and prevent falling risk.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71063137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Five electronic databases (Medline, Cinahl, Psycinfo, Embase, and Cochrane Library) were searched in their entirety using the two key words “cognition” and “trauma”. An additional manual search was conducted. All inclusion criteria comprised English language, an assessment of cognition, and the study participants experienced acute peripheral lesion or physical trauma and were aged between 18 and 65 years. The articles were screened for eligibility by two independent reviewers. Disagreements were resolved by discussion or consensus with a third author. A total of 11737 records were identified, of which 10 met the inclusion criteria. Whiplash injury, brachial plexus injury, soft tissue injury around the cervical spine, and fracture were found to be associated with cognitive impairments. The earliest cognitive assessment time point was one-month post injury, while the latest counterpart was 444 months. Cognition was assessed using 20 unique instruments, targeting nine distinct cognitive domains. An overall positive association was found between traumatic peripheral lesions and cognitive impairments. Therefore, further longitudinal research is needed to monitor the changes in cognitive functions post physical trauma.","PeriodicalId":52524,"journal":{"name":"Postepy Rehabilitacji","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71063255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
