To achieve these two aims, the author describes and discusses different approaches to investigating the relation between music and gender; cultural critique of music itself, consumption/production research, studies of genre and social settings as well as studies of media technology. The author, with her portrayal of the field as a back-drop, wants to revitalize a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of music and gender research. This headship was established in the context of the celebrations in honor of Holy Spirit and provides material which raise interesting questions, such as: Has the female leadership empowered women who play during this festivity? How do the women who participate evaluate their own role within the overall context of the ceremony? Did their headship contribute to undermining racial, social, and gender prejudices? {"title":"The (female) situated musical body","authors":"Cecilia Ferm Almqvist, Linn Hentschel","doi":"10.35699/2317-6377.2019.5288","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35699/2317-6377.2019.5288","url":null,"abstract":"The starting point for the study presented in this article is constituted by experiences of using Simone de Beauvoir’s philosophy and Iris Marion Young theories aiming to describe and understand the becoming of musical women in Swedish schools. Earlier research conducted outside the area of music shows that Beauvoir’s theories can help to explain – and provide means of change for – situations where there is a risk that traditional gender roles will be conserved. A majority of gender studies in the field of music education are based on the performativity theory of Judith Butler. In comparison, de Beauvoir states that repetitions and habits are stratified in the body as experiences, and that human beings are able to make choices in a situation. The aim of the study is to explore how caring is nurtured among girls in Swedish music educational settings. Material generated through two phenomenological studies conducted within specialist music programs in lower respectively higher secondary education in Sweden, constituted the empirical base for conducting re-analysis. This re-analysis followed a hermeneutical phenomenological analytical model. Examples of how caring seemed to be nurtured among girls in music education appeared at different levels and in different situations. It concerns actions made by the girls aiming to make the social and musical setting function in agreed upon ways, namely in the form of taking initiatives, filling “gaps”, and being flexible. José Maurício Nunes Garcia e Marcos Portugal, da forma como costuma ser retratada, é extremamente reducionista e simplista. Quando a corte portuguesa chegou ao Rio de Janeiro, em 1808, José Maurício era o único músico em condições de assumir os principais papéis musicais e fornecer o leque de composições que a corte precisava. Contudo, aos poucos, as chegadas sucessivas de músicos de Portugal aliviaram-no de certas tarefas: não só Marcos Portugal, mas, antes deste, Bernardo José de Souza Queiroz e Fortunato Mazziotti. Assim, a questão das relações profissionais entre os vários protagonistas nos primeiros anos da estada da Família Real é bem mais complexa do que a tradicional polarização entre José Maurício (o bom) e Marcos Portugal (o mau). The terminology of the analytical terms was the same used by Peter Brown in his five volume series of all representative symphonies of the symphonic literature. These terms came from Guidelines to Style Analysis by Jan LaRue. The Symphony Brasília was subject of my doctoral project in three principal fronts: production of a performance edition of the full score and parts; performance of the work in the US and Brazil, aiming to correct eventual mistakes and spread the music; and a production of historical and analytical texts. The present article will cover the musical analysis. More precisely, I indicate how functional harmonic treatments coexist in the composer's pieces with constructions not confined to the traditional limits of tonalism. Such \"mediations\" between distinct harmonic approaches are traditionally understood by Santos scholars as an \"ambiguous\" —and, in this sense, indefinite — trait of his music. Silva, Elsa Maria Gabriel Morgado","doi":"10.35699/2317-6377.2018.5172","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35699/2317-6377.2018.5172","url":null,"abstract":"Um dos desafios do contexto musical educativo contemporâneo é a urgência da construção e desenvolvimento de uma visão pluridisciplinar e multidimensional que possa, por um lado, contribuir para a superação de práticas pedagógicas fragmentadas do contexto e sintaxe musical, e por outro, contextualizar e desenvolver um conjunto de capacidades auditivas, cognitivas e expressivas. Este facto é observado nas práticas pedagógicas das unidades curriculares associadas à construção e desenvolvimento da formação musical dos indivíduos, cujos os paradigmas são pautados pelo desenvolvimento técnico-expressivo, isolamento de elementos fundamentais da sintaxe musical e desfasamento entre a produção contemporânea e seus processos de ensino e aprendizagem. Partindo da pertinência e contemporaneidade que estas práticas pedagógicas levantam no contexto atual foi desenvolvida uma abordagem metodológica de carácter experimental, com a finalidade de verificar se a implementação de um modelo pluridisciplinar e multidimensional de educação auditiva, produz efeitos na melhoria do desempenho e compreensão musical. Esta investigação empírica foi desenvolvida em contexto de Ensino Superior, com recurso a uma linha metodológica experimental, com grupo de controlo com pré-teste e pós-teste.
