The purpose of the work was to determine the blades’ loads necessary for further blade fatigue analysis and ground bench tests. The methodology for the load determination consisted of deformation measurements using strain gauges in various flight modes from hovering to maximum speed flight, including climb, descent, acceleration, and braking. Ultralight helicopters occupy the smallest cost niche and, as a rule, full-fledged fatigue studies are not performed for such helicopters. The requirements for ultralight helicopters are also quite loyal, allowing them to pass such experiments. Analysis of the data shows that the amplitude of bending moments on the lower rotor is higher by 1.2 to 2 times the value on the upper rotor. The absolute maximum value of the bending moment is significantly greater at the minimum weight, although the oscillation amplitude becomes smaller. The presented data can be useful for designers of ultralight and UAV helicopters with teetering hinge rotors.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":"131 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139223443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is particularly subject to interfaces such as the aircraft seats, which are getting intense attention as a differentiator in the cabin. The focal point of this paper is to assess and convert customer requirements into what must be done for an optimum aircraft seat. To achieve this, a 2-step analytic hierarchy process and quality function deployment (AHP-QFD) methodology was successfully applied, consolidating product quality characteristics. Then, it leverages a novel scoring method of interdependencies to isolate dependable design variables. Consequently, safety, weight, and durability scored maximum, emphasizing backrest design and alternative composite materials, while test infrastructure was determined as a critical investment component. Furthermore, it is shown how AHP-QFD can be used for product strategy and strategic portfolio management of R&D projects.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139240820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objectives include the development of tools for the rational control of temperature in the cold and hot air flows of a VES. Methods used: Discrete state space, production rule statement, resolution of two-valued predicate equations, dichotomous trees, diagnosis, and recovery of dynamic objects. Problems settled: the studied features of the vortex energy separation process, architecture, and operation links of the rational control system were considered, mathematical models were deduced, and tools for diagnosing and recovering the efficiency of the vortex energy separator as a rational control object were developed. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the formation of instrumental tools to provide rational control of the airflow condition in the VES, where the control object is subjected to the substantial influence of various destabilizing effects.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":" 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139240191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim was to assess how well students acquire the skills and abilities not only to pass an Aviation English proficiency examination (level 4), but also to obtain a higher level 5 necessary for a longer endorsement of their language certificate. Finally, it was determined which areas of language are the easiest and most difficult to master with regards to either a level 4 or 5 according to the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) Rating scale. It was found that four out of five students have the background skills to reach at least an ICAO level 4 upon graduating, however only a fifth are able to achieve a higher level 5. The proportion of level 5 students does not match the proportion of students with good initial general English results, so there should be a greater focus on improving the language training programme by making it more challenging and broadening its scope in terms of vocabulary and grammar in particular.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":"57 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139275947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is primarily due to the implementation of Safety Management Systems (SMS) in its business practices. The critical facet of such SMS recognizes hazards ahead of time. This review aims to undertake scholarly research to enable the identification of numerous hazards within the aircraft maintenance industry. This will be done by reviewing research articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science databases from 2010 to September 2022. Complying with the guidelines of the PRISMA 2020 updated statement, the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology is adopted for the review. The SMS-based framework was formulated to determine the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which identified 39 studies for inclusion. The key outcomes are (i) Thirty-five studies identified six hazard-prone areas and associated hazards of the aircraft maintenance industry, whereas four research studies (two each) underscored the factors impeding the safety critical SMS enactment and organizational learning from past accidents and incidents, (ii) Reviewed literature is a mix of both reactive and proactive methodologies of hazard identification (iii) Learning from past events is critical in safety management.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":"129 3-4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139271343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aiming at the problem of conflict resolution in actual operation, this paper proposes a tactical conflict resolution strategy based on Deep Reinforcement Learning. The process of the controllers resolving conflicts is modelled as the Markov Decision Process. The Deep Q Network algorithm trains the agent and obtains the resolution strategy. The agent uses the command of altitude adjustment, speed adjustment, or heading adjustment to resolve a conflict, and the design of the reward function fully considers the air traffic control regulations. Finally, simulation experiments were performed to verify the feasibility of the strategy given by the conflict resolution model, and the experimental results were statistically analyzed. The results show that the conflict resolution strategy based on Deep Reinforcement Learning closely reflected actual operations regarding flight safety and conflict resolution rules.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135778667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors comprehensively examined the priorities of factors that affect loading operation efficiency for air express services at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan. The reviewed results from surveying practical experts using a rank pair-wise comparison (RPC) revealed that load factor and load planning consistently ranked higher and more crucial among 15 elements regardless of flight properties. Long-haul services to the North American hub were most concerned with inventory control of unit load devices (ULDs). Regional feeder services attached importance to the ground operations workforce as well. Feeder services for cross-continental deliveries additionally focused on the arrangement of apron bays. The authors used the TOPSIS, i.e., technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solutions, to evaluate flights by three freighter types. Considering that the studied company performed more consistently on the top crucial factors, the sub-criteria that belong to the negative subset and are affected by the external units played a dominant role in these evaluated flights.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":"876 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135889653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The safety performance of a flight has been a challenging issue in the aviation industry and plays an important role to acquire competitive benefits. In this study, an integrated multi-class classification machine learning models and Markov chain were developed for cockpit crew performance evaluation during their flights. At the outset, the main features related to a flight are identified based on the literature review, flight operations expert’s statements, and the case study dataset (as numerical example). Afterwards, the flights’ performance is evaluated as a target column based on four multi-class classification models (Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine, Neural Network, and Random Forest). The results showed that the random forest classifier has the greatest value in all evaluation metrics (i.e., accuracy = 0.90, precision = 0.91, recall = 0.97, and F1-score = 0.93). Therefore, this model can be used by the airline companies to predict flight crew performance before the flight in order to prevent or decrease flight safety risks.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135889285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the University of Defence, the simulation center is used as a support instrument. The objective of this paper is to determine the most appropriate flying platform for student-pilots when employing basic radionavigation theory. To verify the analysis, simulated student flights were carried out. The first group of approaches was performed on the simulated platform of the Zlin Z142 aircraft, and the second group on the L39 Albatros aircraft. Individual flights were statistically evaluated and compared. The parameters for comparison were the deviation of the flight altitude compared to the recommended approach altitude and the deviation of the heading compared to the final approach course. Statistical evaluation of the performed simulated flights was made by F-test and verified confirmed that to teach the theoretical subject of Radionavigation, a slower-flying Zlin Z-142 is more suitable. According to the results, the Z142 platform gives the student more time to observe a pilotage error and correct it before starting the final approach phase.","PeriodicalId":51910,"journal":{"name":"Aviation","volume":"260 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135919766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
