In the research presented, I focus on the question in which language(s) the communication between teachers and learners takes place, depending on different teaching phases, situations and didactic goals. The aim of this article is to analyse various structures and functions of model and example sentences in selected German grammar handbooks for foreign speakers, to establish a typology of these sentences and then use these criteria to compare the handbooks. This (or similar) form does not exist in Czech, and it clearly indicates that the speaker is not the author of the communicated information, and therefore s/he is not ready or willing to take responsibility for the communicated content. Current global political issues increase the frequency of using Konjunktiv I. If we want to correctly understand the original texts presented by German newspapers, we need to be familiar with the given grammar issue. A specific project implemented in 2021 at the Faculty of Education in Hradec Králové also dealt with the issue of expressing a foreign opinion.
