It is suggested that, even in an environment relying heavily on information held in electronic format, there is likely to be a strong need for collections and for the skills required to create and manage them. The objective of the research was to establish the main trends in the labour market for information spe-cialists that will enable planning the studies and number of students for institutions of higher education. Three main sectors of employment were selected: a) emerging sector of information service; b) established sector of libraries; and c) information management in different economic sectors.
