By comparing and analyzing the corpus data, the paper examines different linguistic traits among five versions. It shows that versions translated by earlier translators tend to be more complex and more formal with a higher standardized TTR, a higher degree of mean word length and average sentence length. In contrast, recent translators have chosen rather simpler and concise vocabularies, which makes their version exhibit a higher degree of readability in rendering the original text. The analyses of philosophical and cultural terms shed light on the academic experience and cultural considerations that account for the similarities and differences between these versions.","PeriodicalId":514576,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language Studies","volume":"16 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140488181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Following this research approach, this paper outlines a detailed study of the grammatical features of journalistic discourse written about women in Vietnamese Women Newspapers, issues of 2021, from the perspectives of Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis, of which the grammatical features of journalistic discourse would be expressed in three aspects: experiential, interpersonal, and expressive values. More specifically, the experiential values of grammar were reflected in the transitivity processes, the interpersonal values were shown in modes of sentences, and finally, the expressive values were realized in the expressive modality. The study results revealed that the three most frequently used processes were material, relational and verbal. Besides, declarative sentence type was used most frequently, and there was very little likelihood of modal word use. These grammatical features were consistent with the news genre applied for newspapers while remaining ample contextual conditions for reflecting journalists' perceptions of women and feminism.","PeriodicalId":514576,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language Studies","volume":"180 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140492694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method of teaching English using educational games to non-native speakers who use the language as a second or foreign language has shown remarkable results. An inventive framework for implementing the educational games learning strategy at universities is offered by this research. This is done to provide pupils with chances for interdisciplinary learning and lifetime learning. In order to address gaming and learning, the research presents social skills and knowledge training. It explains the desired learning point as well as the part that game aspects play in student engagement and the interplay between educational gaming material and students. The fundamental building blocks for developing social and cognitive abilities are the collaborative learning concepts, which are further discussed in the research. Further research links game-based learning's benefits to the development and enhancement of attitude. The research also looks at three theories: engagement theory, problem-solving theory, and narrative-centered learning theory. These ideas are crucial to the creation of the game-based learning strategy. The study goes on to discuss instructors' opinions on the game-based learning technique after giving its theoretical foundation. There is also a discussion of the benefits and drawbacks of game-based learning.","PeriodicalId":514576,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language Studies","volume":"77 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139526369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Podcasts are particularly appealing to the younger generation since they are flexible and allow learners to access language-learning materials at any time and from any location. By evaluating multiple journal articles released between 2013 and 2023, eighteen (18) papers were identified that meet the eligibility criteria for the study following the PRISMA 2020. The aim of this systematic review is to investigate the benefits and drawbacks of using podcasts as a language learning method. The results show that podcasts can be a useful tool for enhancing motivation and language proficiency. Due to the lack of possibilities for critical analysis and evaluation, there are reservations about their usage in English language instruction.","PeriodicalId":514576,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language Studies","volume":" 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139626197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the huge differences between Chinese and Western cultures, it is difficult for translators to find the equivalent expression when translating culture-loaded words. Chen Hongbi is an outstanding female translator in modern times, and her translation of the English detective novel Le Dossier No.113 was very popular in the late Qing Dynasty. From the perspective of eco-translatology, this study takes Chen Hongbi's The File No.113(《第一百十三案》) as an example and analyzes the translation of culture-loaded words in the text. In the late Qing Dynasty, the social demand for female intellectuals, the academic demand for detective novels and the interest demand of publishing houses formed a sound ecological environment for Chen's translation of foreign detective novels. Chen adapted himself to this ecological environment with his translation ability and love for detective novels, thus choosing to translate Le Dossier No.113. In the process of translation, Chen reaches the adaptation and transformation of culture-loaded words from three dimensions linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension. This study describes how Chen Hongbi accurately conveys the meaning of culture-loaded words to the target readers based on the ecological environment of translation through the mechanism of \"selection\" and \"adaptation\", which is helpful to understand and explain the choices made by the translators in order to realize the communicative intention and adapt to the context of the late Qing Dynasty. By analyzing Chen's successful translation of the detective novel, this study hopes to make readers realize the value of her translation as well as her adaptation and selection in translation so as to provide references for future translators to consider deep adaptation and selection when translating culture-loaded words.","PeriodicalId":514576,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language Studies","volume":" 612","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139391823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
