This paper focuses on the operators’ interpretation of adventure tourism in New South Wales (NSW) national parks, and explores why the operators have particular perspectives on adventure tourism in national parks. This paper draws on identity theory as a foundation for exploring the operators’ perspectives. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 adventure tour operators based in four NSW national parks. Based on the interview data, this study found the operators played a variety of roles in the operation of adventure tourism business in national parks, such as escape facilitators and stewards of the natural environment. These roles were related to the operators’ concerns for clients, the natural environment and their businesses.KEYWORDS: Tourism suppliersnational park managementpartnershipadventure tourism‌outdoor recreation management Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).","PeriodicalId":51354,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Tourism","volume":"439 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135482466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article examines three design variables (i.e. technology interface: web browser vs. virtual reality device; creative style of information: textual vs. pictorial; and presence of historical reconstructions: yes vs. no) of a virtual visit to identify their influence on perceived informativeness and intention to recommend a destination. We performed a 2 × 2 × 2 between-subjects experimental factorial design with 116 Spanish tourists. We found that the presence of historical reconstructions especially improves informativeness when combined with extra textual information; and that if the visit is mediated by an immersive VR device, textual information cues influence intention to recommend more than do pictorial cues, but when the virtual visit is carried out using a less immersive technological interface, pictorial content has more influence on intention to recommend. Theoretical and managerial contributions are discussed.KEYWORDS: Virtual realitytourist destinationheritage tourisminformativenesseWOM AcknowledgmentsWe would like to thank the Giza Project at Harvard University for allowing us to use their actual virtual tour of the Tomb of Queen Meresankh III as a stimulus in our experimental design. While previous studies have extensively investigated the significant role of social media in the sharing of travel experience and how it influences the travel decisions of others, very little research has examined on the travel-sharing behaviour of frequent travellers and how they select travel content and social media platforms on which share and how this sharing behaviour improves their personal ties. This study applied a qualitative research design focusing on 22 in-depth interviews with frequent travellers. The results revealed that frequent travellers have mindfully different sharing behaviour pre, during and post trips, and consider the needs and reactions of followers. Authenticity, uniqueness, relevancy, emotional connection, engagement, visual appeal and educational value of the experience are key factors in selecting what they share. Functionality, wide reach, visual appeal, engagement and the target audience were key in selecting effective social media platforms. Finally, sense of community, fostering empathy, communication with peers, memories together and documentation of their experiences were important in improving their personal ties. The results offer significant theoretical and practical implications.KEYWORDS: Social media platformtravel experience sharingfrequent travellerssocial cognitive theoryOman Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).","PeriodicalId":51354,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Tourism","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135645410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study focuses on franchisor characteristics that help in creating positive behavioural outcomes. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS software is used to analyze 266 U.S. food franchisees. Findings show the relative impact of franchisee evaluation of information quality, service quality, rewards and recognition, and customization on perceived value. Also, positive perceived value in franchisees influences their willingness to pay a premium and their referrer intentions towards franchise brands. Multigroup analysis using demographic characteristics shows that the impacts of information quality and service quality on perceived value are higher in male and older franchisees than in female and younger franchisees. Service robots collect, store, analyze, and act upon a continuous stream of private information as a by-product of human-robot interaction. As such, they invade consumers’ virtual and physical space and raise privacy challenges in AI settings. We conduct a survey study(n = 576) and validate a mediating contextualized model of consumers’ adoption decisions on service robots in hospitality from privacy concerns. Our findings highlight the interplay between perceived risk and perceived benefit in shaping service robots’ adoption decisions is partially mediated by privacy concerns. Our findings also highlight the mechanism of privacy concerns, conceptualized as psychological constructs of collection, control and awareness of privacy practices, as an important addition to the established multiple chain mediating effect. The insights explain how consumers calculate privacy between perceived risk and benefit, and help reconcile a fundamental tension among consumers, how to avail benefits of privacy by improving the privacy awareness and control associated with the collection of private information in hospitality.KEYWORDS: Privacy concernsprivacy calculushuman-robot interactionservice robotsperceived riskperceived benefit Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Additional informationFundingThis work was supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China: [grant no 72074053]; National Social Science Fund of China.","PeriodicalId":51354,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Tourism","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135645986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilizing qualitative data from semi-structured interviews conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, this article reveals that interaction principles of willingness to exchange, access to information, dialogue, transparency, coordination, adaptation, and informed risk assessment lead to value co-creation (VCC). Failure to follow these principles leads to value no-creation (VNC) or value co-destruction (VCD). During SMDs, the most critical factors influencing interaction for resource integration are traveller’s safety needs, initiation of travel cancellation, sympathy, proactivity, omnichannel communication, the effectiveness of technology and employees as well as the number of involved actors. Forced indifference in VNC is uncovered, where firms’ constraints hinder their engagement despite tourists’ desire for interaction. This study contributes to the understanding of value dynamics during SMDs and calls for further exploration of multiple stakeholders’ perspectives in such contexts.","PeriodicalId":51354,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Tourism","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136280503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The uncertainty surrounding online travel purchases, however, still makes traveller’s decision-making process very stressful. Hence, this study aims to identify and classify different factors that drive travellers’ decision-making and actual behaviour. This study seeks to fill the void by systematically reviewing and synthesizing the online travel literature. The study utilizes the fuzzy-DEMATEL approach to identify, classify and analyse various factors to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding sets of factors driving travellers’ decisions and their actual behaviour. The findings reveal that travellers’ online travel purchasing behaviour is influenced most by their attitude, while social influence also emerged as a significant factor. This study provides key insights for academics, researchers and practitioners by identifying major factors and sub-factors, along with their causal interactions. This study is novel in its approach as it significantly contributes to existing knowledge by synthesizing the literature and employing the fuzzy-DEMATEL technique in categorizing the key factors that influence travellers’ decision-making and actual purchase.KEYWORDS: Online travel purchasefuzzy-DEMATELfactors and sub-factorsactual behaviourliterature synthesiscloud analysis Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).","PeriodicalId":51354,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Tourism","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136279659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
