Abstract
ABSTRACTAuditory data has become ubiquitous in tourism and hospitality, especially with digitalization. However, a lack of feasible frameworks for analysing auditory data creates barriers to tourism and hospitality research using auditory data. This study proposed a framework to address the methodological challenges of analysing auditory data in tourism and hospitality. The framework is applied in a digital audio interpretation setting to demonstrate its feasibility and the value of audio features. The proposed framework offers new directions for advancing tourism and hospitality research using unstructured auditory data in various contexts.KEYWORDS: Auditory dataaudio analysisaudio featuremachine learning Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Additional informationFundingThis work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China [grant number 72172100, 71502019, 72102238, 72372110]; Innovation Spark Fund of Sichuan University [grant number 2018hhf–37]; Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China [grant number 21XJC790007].

Journal metrics are valuable for readers and authors in selecting a publication venue. However, it's crucial to understand that relying on any single metric provides only a partial perspective on a journal's quality and impact. Recognizing the limitations of each metric is essential, and they should never be considered in isolation. Instead, metrics should complement qualitative reviews, serving as a supportive tool rather than a replacement. This approach ensures a more comprehensive evaluation of a journal's overall quality and significance, as exemplified in Current Issues in Tourism.
