It is a developmental and clinical study. The dysphasic child clearly manifests disturbances in language. These can be understood as disturbances of the linguistic \"containers of thought\". What impact do they have on the development of cognitive and affective experiences? A controlled study of logical operations involving reversibility and invariates shows some significant differences between dysphasic children and a matched group of non patient children. Findings, both, quantitative and qualitative, point to some specific difficulties in the acquisition of operative (in Piaget sense) structures of thought. Often regarded as \"practical persons\" dysphasic children manifest peculiar ways of integrating their affective experiences in a factual mode akin to alexithymia. Linguistic anomalies seem to be important elements of some complex \"noeto linguistic\" disturbances. Linguistic difficulties have a global impact on the quality of life of dysphasic children and need further investigation for developing relevant intervention programs.
","PeriodicalId":513375,"journal":{"name":"La psychiatrie de l'enfant","volume":"36 2","pages":"455-87"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"19290004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Clinical and psychopathological study].","authors":"M H Ledoux","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Through the case study of a psychotic girl, we have tried to outline the psychotic mechanisms involved in this mental functioning. Anxieties of an autistic type have been found, as well as anxieties of a more psychotic type (i.e. symbiotic and schizophrenic). Characteristics of this psychotic functioning were: omnipotence, primitive identification mechanisms, fragmenting separation anxiety, search for sameness and for a low of identical repetition, difficulties in accessing to symbolism. Difficulties in defusion from the symbiotic object and the potential role played by this object in the difficulties are noteworthy. But it is not possible to conceptualize them in terms of direct causal relationship, because the object has also a counterphobic function and compensates for the void of subject as well as for the dissolution of the self. Also present is a schizoparanoïd aspect, with a temptation to cuddle inside the object. The sudden breaking through of informations or requirements from reality provokes surprise, panic reactions and retirement from the objectal world. Otherness triggers psychic pain and vacillation of symbiotic bounds. Thus the avoidance of, and retirement from, reality and the recourse to delusional thinking, especially when attempts to controlling with a rigid system are failing and deceiving. Threats of intrusion and loss of control are experienced as a threat of fragmentation and dissolution of the psyche. Far less threatening to the subject's internal balance is the policy of rigidly maintaining sameness and cuddling inside the object.
","PeriodicalId":513375,"journal":{"name":"La psychiatrie de l'enfant","volume":"36 1","pages":"27-65"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18691676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Evolutive dependencies vs. counter-evolutive risks and characteristics of the mother-infant relationship].","authors":"M Pinol-Douriez, M C Hurtig, A Colas","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

As part of a broader research project on the construction of the self, six infants were observed longitudinally in day-care centers between the ages of five months and three years. Interviews were conducted with the six mothers in order to evaluate the intersubjective characteristics of the mother-infant relationship. For three of the six children, the mother was a caregiver in the center. This article deals with \"propping\" processes, defined as the affective-cognitive transformations by means of which infants develop networks of links with and between external and internal objects which are used for support during development and serve as a relay of the maternal object. The present analysis is limited to propping on the adults in the day-care center (caregivers, observer, and, for three of the children, mothers). Two factors were considered: the intersubjective quality of the mother-infant relation, and the presence or absence of the mother as a caregiver in the day-care center. The results showed that (1) even when very young, the infants under observation differentiated between the various functions of the adults, and adapted their behavior to them; (2) each child exhibited a unique and sometimes very creative way of using dependencies on an adult's psychic apparatus to construct his or her own modes of psychic functioning; and (3) the developmental dynamics and the richness of the observed transformations were found to depend on the quality of the contact and distancing in the mother-infant relationship and on the concrete conditions for its actualization, which can either promote or hinder, and sometimes even block, the construction of the mother's absence.
","PeriodicalId":513375,"journal":{"name":"La psychiatrie de l'enfant","volume":"36 1","pages":"177-252"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"19349150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
