The purpose of this paper is threefold. First, we seek to show that it is necessary and possible to analyse current managerial and directive action in the light of Aristotle's ethical thought, specifically concerning phronesis (practical wisdom). The second aim is to highlight that the Platonic interpretation of phronesis as a matter of contemplative life contributes to an inadequate leadership style and ethical apathy. Furthermore, we claim that the Machiavellian interpretation of phronesis contributes to leadership based on manipulation and exclusion of morality in management. The third and final objective is to respond to these two interpretations by reviewing Aristotle's exceptional teachings on the relevance of phronesis as a special kind of wisdom in which good judgment, discernment and an adequate understanding of events for decision‐making converge. An essential claim of this paper is that Aristotle and his notion of phronesis, rather than Plato's or Machiavelli's, ought to inform contemporary debates in management scholarship and education. Aristotle's philosophical insights into practice, wisdom and more comprehensive ethics are highly relevant for public discourse in our contemporary societal context, especially for management education. Integrating phronesis into management and leadership education involves using case studies and experiential learning to teach practical wisdom and sound judgment.","PeriodicalId":512695,"journal":{"name":"International Social Science Journal","volume":"14 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141815766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, we elaborated a structural model, based on the updated version of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and with the inclusion of the constructs healthy habit and functional congruence. We conducted a survey with 288 consumers of fruits and vegetables. The results show that the purchase intention of consumers of premium fruits and vegetables tends to be positively influenced by attitude, subjective norms, healthy habits and the functional congruence of consumers, and such congruence also impacts the attitude. Purchase intention tends to positively impact purchase behaviour. Perceived behavioural control (PBC) tends to boost the influence of attitude on intention and decrease the strength that subjective norms exert on this same purchase intention. We conclude that consumers’ attitudes, the opinions of their social core, PBC, their healthy habits, and functional congruence can impact consumers’ intention to buy produce in the premium category and, consequently, their purchasing behaviour. This study contributes to the theory with its findings regarding the role of healthy habits and functional congruence in the updated TPB model applied to the premium fruit and vegetable market.","PeriodicalId":512695,"journal":{"name":"International Social Science Journal","volume":"101 48","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141821810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study empirically explores the important role of financial inclusion (FI), energy consumption, technological (TECH) innovation and environmental degradation in the economic growth of 13 selected developing Asian countries from 2000 to 2021. The feasible generalized least squares method is used for empirical examinations due to the nature of the data. The study focuses on three dimensions of FI: penetration, usage and availability of financial institutions. The results show that FI, energy consumption and TECH innovation encourage economic growth, whereas ecological footprint discourages economic growth in selected Asian countries. The empirical findings highlight the importance of promoting sustainable growth in Asia through enhanced FI, TECH innovation, sustainable energy practices and environmental conservation. Governments in these countries should prioritize strengthening the financial sector, investing in research and development and implementing effective policies to ensure a clean and green environment. This will lead to inclusive and environmentally responsible development that benefits both current and future generations in the region.","PeriodicalId":512695,"journal":{"name":"International Social Science Journal","volume":" 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140990689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using panel data from 41 countries over the period 2000–2022, the study employs a dynamic panel model to estimate the effects of these two types of uncertainty on the private investment‐to‐gross domestic product ratio. The study finds that both global economic policy uncertainty (EPU) and climate policy uncertainty have a negative and significant influence on private investment, implying that higher levels of uncertainty discourage private investors from undertaking long‐term projects in the sub‐region. The study also finds that the effect of uncertainty on climate policy is stronger than that of EPU, suggesting that private investors are more sensitive to the lack of clarity and coherence in the global climate policy framework. The findings are robust to different estimation techniques. The study concludes that reducing policy uncertainty, especially in the area of climate change, is crucial for enhancing private investment and promoting sustainable development in SSA.","PeriodicalId":512695,"journal":{"name":"International Social Science Journal","volume":" 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140999510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept underscores the necessity to discover, create and utilise business activities that positively contribute to environmental and societal sustainability. This article seeks evidence of which factors influence sustainable entrepreneurship intention (SEI) and how gender moderates the relationship among sustainability attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control and SEI. The survey was administered to 390 undergraduate students at Malaysian public universities. By performing structural equation modelling analysis, results showed that SEI is influenced by sustainability attitude and perceived behavioural control, whereas subjective norms do not have such an impact. The moderation analysis further discovered that gender only moderates the relationship between sustainable attitude and SEI; the strength of the relationship is stronger among female students. The results of this study offer practical guidance for policymakers and industry stakeholders. Policymakers can use these findings to craft focused initiatives and educational programmes to nurture sustainable entrepreneurship among students, cultivating a future workforce dedicated to ethical business conduct. Industry leaders can draw on the understanding of gender differences in the link between sustainability attitudes and SEI to formulate strategies for attracting and retaining talent inclined towards sustainable practices in their entrepreneurial pursuits.","PeriodicalId":512695,"journal":{"name":"International Social Science Journal","volume":" 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140997882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prevalence of STIs varies across different high risk groups including the population with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Individuals with STDs are at a higher risk of acquisition of HIV through the sexual route than the other routes. The tendency of HIV infection was studied in attendees aged 15–49 years in an STD clinic in West Bengal from 2004 to 2008. Blood samples were collected consecutively from 250 attendees per year (a total of 1,250 samples over 5 years) from an STD clinic during 12 weeks (October–December) every year. HIV sero-status was screened using ELISA, and positive samples were subjected to rapid assay and confirmed by Western blot. Overall HIV seropositivity in STD patients was 1.28% (women, 1.04%; men, 1.48%). Data from 5 consecutive years showed a prominent decline from 2.40% (2004) to 0.0% (2007) and a minor increase (1.6%) in 2008, which was not statistically significant (χ2 = 4.6, df = 4, P > 0.05). The highest seroprevalence (1.66%) was observed in the 25–29 age group, and the lowest (0.87%) was observed in the 40–44 age group. The overall decreasing tendency of HIV infections signifies the efficiency of current interventions. Focused intervention for the 25–29 age group may help in decreasing HIV infections further.","PeriodicalId":512695,"journal":{"name":"International Social Science Journal","volume":"58 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140271355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
