Methods A total of 83 patients with hyperparathyroidism who had undergone parathyroidectomy over a period of seven years were included in the study. US examinations of the neck and scintigraphy were performed before surgery in 83 and 42 patients, respectively. In the pathohistological analysis, in addition to diagnosis, the size and weight of the parathyroid gland were measured. Results US examination revealed 125 enlarged parathyroid glands and two normal-sized glands. Scintigraphy revealed 52 enlarged and three normal-sized parathyroid glands. Enlarged parathyroid glands were more frequently found in the projection of the lower pole thyroid glands. A significantly higher number of enlarged upper parathyroid glands were found by the operative findings than by US. There was no statistically significant difference in the diagnosis of enlarged parathyroid glands in all three forms of hyperparathyroidism. There was a positive correlation between the size of the parathyroid glands obtained by US and the size of the operative finding (κ=0.51; p=0.00 and p<0.0005, respectively). The relationship between parathyroid gland size measured by ultrasound and pathological analysis showed a positive correlation. The LMT length was measured with a digital gauge, and the LAD-CX angle, LMTLAD angle and LMT-CX angle with a manual goniometer. Results The average value of the LMT length was 9.0 mm (6.0-13.5). In 20 (68.97%) samples, the LMT was divided into two terminal branches. There was no statistically significant difference (p=0.321) in LMT length between the hearts with a bifurcation and without it. The average value of the LAD-CX angle was 89.0⁰ (74.5-93.0), with a statistically significant difference (p=0.020) comparing to hearts with trifurcation. The mean value of the LMT-LAD angle was 30.83±9.23⁰ and it was significantly lower (p=0.006) in the group of hearts with bifurcation compared to the group with trifurcation of the main trunk. Methods Three series of experiments were carried out with amputation of the thigh in the middle third and muscle plasty. In the 1st and 2nd experimental series a perineural catheter was brought to the stump of the sciatic nerve, through which mechanical irritation of the nerve was performed for 20 days daily for 20 minutes. In the 2nd series, an electrode was added to the nerve and epineural electrical stimulation was performed daily for 20 days. Animals of the 3rd series served as control. The observation periods were 1, 3, 6 months. Histological research method with filling vessels with ink-gelatin mixture was applied. Results In the 1st series, there was a sharp distortion of the reparative process, which consisted of a violation of microcirculation, changes in shape, resorption of the cortical diaphyseal plate, fractures, deformations. In most experiments of the 2nd series, organotypic stumps were formed with normalization of microcirculation. In the 3rd series, results of the formation of the stump were better than in the 1st, but worse than in the 2nd series. Conclusions Painful nerve irritation after amputation leads to a significant disturbance of microcirculation and reparative regeneration at the end of the bone stump with the development of pathological restructuring of bone tissue. Electrostimulation of the nerve improves microcirculation and reparative regeneration of the bone tissue.","PeriodicalId":51129,"journal":{"name":"Medicinski Glasnik","volume":"20 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10138292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods This is experimental research with posttest control group design. Thirty-male Wistar rats were divided into five treatment groups: healthy group and rotator cuff reconstruction group included four groups: SH-MSCs W2 (the treatment group was given a SH-MSCs 0.5 mL and terminated at weeks 2), NaCl W2 (the control vehicle group was given NaCl 0.5 mL and terminated at weeks 2), SH-MSCs W8 (the treatment group was given a SH-MSCs 0.5 mL and terminated at weeks 8), and NaCl W8 (the control vehicle group was given NaCl 0.5 mL and terminated at weeks 8). On the termination day, all the rats were terminated and HIF-1a and bFGF gene expression were analysed using qRT-PCR. Results SH-MSCs significantly increased the HIF-1a and bFGF gene expression than NaCl group even in week 2 and week 8. The highest increased gene expression of HIF-1a and bFGF was on week 8. Results Of the total of 30 patients enrolled in the study, the majority were in the age group of 36-45 (average of 44) years and work as housewives. The highest risk factor was sun exposure. The melasma pattern was dominated by centrofacial patterns, majority of melasma types were epidermal, and the most severe degree was moderate. A moderate negative correlation between BDNF levels and the duration of melasma was found (p=0.007; r= -0.485). There was no significant relationship between BDNF levels and the severity of melasma (p=0.387). Regulatory T cells (Tregs), plasma cells and inflammatory cytokines have shown to play a critical role in allergic airway inflammation. The aim of the study was to investigate the role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in generating Treg cells and plasma cells associated with regulating interlukin-10 (IL-10) in AR model. Methods Fifteen male Wistar rats (6 to 8 weeks old) were randomly divided into three groups (control group, sham group, and MSCs treatment group). Ovalbumin (OVA) nasal challenge was conducted daily from day 15 to 21, and MSCs (1x106) were administrated intraperitoneally to OVA-sensitized rats on day 21. Sneezing was observed from day 24 to 27. The rats were sacrificed on day 24 and day 27. The expression of Treg and plasma cells was analysed by flow cytometry assay. The level of IL-10 was analysed under ELISA assay. Results This study showed that the percentage of sneezing and rubbing times significantly decreased in MSCs treatment associated with the regulation of IL-10 level and plasma cell. This finding was aligned with the significant increase of Treg level.
