Its presence is frequently a catalyst for change. The conflict in this research is communication over the resolution of the Indramayu Farmers Union - Perum Perhutani agrarian land conflict in Indonesia. Conflict always involves differences in values, power, or perception. Communication is essential in developing relationships between two or more entities in conflict. This research method systematically observes scientific journal articles appropriate to the study topic, namely communication on agrarian conflict resolution. This research aims to describe the role of communication in resolving agrarian conflicts, especially agrarian land conflicts. The results of the study show that five (5) essential themes have become new thinking in resolving agrarian conflicts: (1) consistency of legal supremacy; (2) cooperation through mutual agreement; (3) mediation involving actors who can influence government policy and involvement; (4) negotiation by bringing together conflicting parties so that it is easier to convey disclosures; and (5) participatory communication, which places the parties in an equal communication atmosphere.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140993971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data consist of 267,675 television ad airings sponsored, and 2,164 e-mails sent, by the forty-seven U.S. Senate candidates who used both communication channels during the 2014 general election cycle. Major findings include that fundraising requests and get-out-the-vote messages were more commonly found in campaign e-mails than in television ads; that campaigns were more likely to use partisan appeals in their e-mails while they often used bipartisan appeals in their television ads; and that campaigns sometimes mentioned issues owned by the other party more frequently than their opponents did when using television ads whereas they tended to focus on issues owned by their party in their e-mails. Campaigns’ use of multiple communication channels within a single election cycle should be monitored more systematically and thoroughly.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140692360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many articles examining the content of media coverage of China, but the topics examining media coverage of China during COVID-19 are still very new and have not been adequately studied. Knowledge related to Media coverage of China during COVID-19 was analyzed and visualized using CiteSpace software with the Web of Science Core Collection as the data source. The main findings suggest that media coverage of China during COVID-19 is a relatively recent topic of research. (1) The three most influential journals in this area are Communication, Psychology Multidisciplinary, and Public Environmental Occupational Health. Zhang W., Chen Q, et al. are among the most influential authors. (2) Co-author networks are decentralized, whereas transnational collaborations take place in groups. 10 clusters are considered to be of high interest, of which \"covid-19 governance\" \"contesting coronavirus narrative\" \"understanding public protective behavioral intention\" has persisted to this day. (3) Thirteen emergent terms illustrate the evolution of the field's research frontiers, the earliest being \"social media,\" \"fake news,\" etc., followed by \"support,\" \"emotions,\" \"media,\" etc., and finally \"media satisfaction\" and \"media perceptions.\"Finally, its contributions, limitations and directions for further research are discussed. The findings of this study predict future trends in research on media coverage of China during COVID-19 and provide a basis for more in-depth research.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140692186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intricate interplay between self-image, individual behaviors, and communication abilities highlights the far-reaching influence of personal perception on social interactions. In the contemporary landscape of Chinese television series, exemplified by the production ‘Nothing but Thirty’, a deliberate effort is made to depict characters that embody the evolving roles of women in modern society. Drawing from relevant literature, this study conducts a comprehensive analysis of characters’ image in ‘Nothing but Thirty’, examining content such as appearance, language, non-verbal cues (body language), and varied scene settings. Adopting a rigorous qualitative case study methodology and leveraging content analysis grounded in the coordinated management of meaning theory and social exchange theory, the research aims to dissect the nuanced dynamics of interpersonal communication as portrayed in the series. The findings illuminate that the dynamic characterizations in contemporary Chinese TV series function as reflective mirrors, capturing the intricate layers of modern interpersonal communication and societal intricacies. This narrative analysis extends beyond the purview of conventional storytelling, offering a scholarly exploration of the intricate fabric of human interaction.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140692209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The descriptive approach was used to study the current conditions of phenomena of violence. The study included 50 participants from parents of students with disabilities from Irbid City, Jordan. The main instrument that was relied upon in this research is the questionnaire. These results indicate that students with disabilities are exposed to verbal violence on social media according to the opinions of their parents. The levels of violence are high and expected to rise according to their views which affects the students' mental health, and consequently, affects their academic levels. The results demonstrated the need to monitor the content of social media accounts that students use without limiting their freedom. Parental censorship should be used to specific limits and with collaboration with schools and educational centres that can provide awareness campaigns to reduce the levels of verbal violence on social media.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140703461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Scholars have argued that the Internet supports a more deliberative democracy. However, scholars have also raised concerns about the role of the Internet in political matters. While scholars agree that the Internet has facilitated broader public discussion, in many regards, its ‘virtual public sphere’ still mirrors existing social structures. Twitter has become a common social media platform for many South Africans. This has led to a virtual community of Twitter users engaged in real-time discourses primarily related to Black South Africans. Black Twitter in South Africa is used for social, political, and economic motivations. This study argues for the practice of Black Twitter as a digital counterpublic in South Africa. The aim is to spotlight how black people in South Africa have used Black Twitter as a digital counterpublic for the marginalized groups within South Africa. The research will investigate the potential challenges and opportunities associated with Black Twitter functioning as a digital counterpublic. Utilizing digital ethnography, the study gathered a dataset of tweets from Black Twitter in 2022, focusing on those addressing social, political, and economic issues. More than 700,000 tweets were identified under these specific thematic hashtags.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140710083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, little research is available regarding parent WeChat groups and their impact in providing online parenting support. Given that parents in China frequently have specific anxiety around their children's education, this is an important research area. Thus, this study examines the moderating effect of Parents’ Anxiety about Their Children’s Education (PAE) in the relationship between parents WeChat group use and online support. Using a sample of primary school parents (N = 493), the study found a positive association between parents WeChat group use and online support. The results indicated that PAE moderated the association between parents WeChat group engagement and online support, but not for the relationship between parents WeChat group intensity and online support. This study contributes to expanding the literature in WeChat group use, online support and PAE in East Asian countries with similar social and cultural contexts.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140754601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A rapid review approach employing the keywords “communication” AND “culture” AND “modern” was used to identify relevant articles published between 2019 and 2023. The reveiw which followed the PRISMA guidelines selected 35 articles that were grouped by type, function and purpose of communication (communication, identity, perception, education and entertainment) using the NVivo 12 Pro program. Most articles (n=13) were published in 2022 by predominantly authors from Russia. Modernization gives rise to cultural evolution and changes in ethnic and symbolic identities which drive post-modernists to advocate for the return of cultural identity that relies on various forms of communication. Modernization in cultural communication must be balanced with the post-modernization paradigm so that limitations in the generalization of communication design are in alignment with the subjective needs of each individual. The current study also acknowledged its methodological limitaons and potential biases for transparency and scientific rigor.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140752536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, it examines the narratives of ten biologists vis-à-vis the use of machines and consumables within a cancer research lab in Belgium. The aim is to answer the following main research question: What is the relationship between the scientists and the lab's machines and consumables?Design: A qualitative analysis is conducted over 18 months of a) participant-observation recordings, b) semi-structured individual interviews, and c) collective interviews with ten lab scientists. The analysis is guided by Walter Fisher's narrative paradigm and Mona Baker's narrative features.Findings: The findings expose a problematic relationship between the scientists and their lab machines and suggest that scientists trust machines and consumables unquestionably. This problematic relationship is evidenced as the scientists' narratives violate four narrative features: 1) temporality, 2) causal emplotment, 3) relationality, and 4) selective appropriation. The study claims that these narrative features are well-positioned to identify unsubstantiated scientific practices.","PeriodicalId":509525,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Media and Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140755838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
