The paper is novel in that it is the first to conduct an analysis of Austrian-specific phraseological units and communicative formulas as ethnocultural markers and means of expressing the national identity of Austrians within the framework of a linguocultural approach to studying the Austrian phraseological system. As a result, the researcher identified the following types of Austrian phraseological units: 1) phraseological units with ethno-realia: a) phraseological units with toponyms; b) comparative phraseological units with anthroponyms; c) phraseological units with pragmatonyms denoting currency; d) phraseological units with names of inherently Austrian food products; e) phraseological units containing words with the -erl, -(e)l suffixes; 2) phraseological units denoting social status and status characteristics; 3) Austrian-specific communicative formulas. Throughout the research, the ethnocultural and linguo-pragmatic potential of Austrian phraseological units and proverbs reflecting cultural codes, peculiarities of the national character, and the worldview of Austrians were determined.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The aim of the study is to identify ways to update the materials of available textbooks on Russian as a foreign language, taking into account various factors. These include methodological factors (purpose and content of training; level of proficiency in Russian; requirements of normative documents; organizational forms of training; students’ training program; national composition of the study group), linguistic factors (genre, style, content value of the text; characteristics of text materials from the standpoint of textuality categories and communicative categories), extralinguistic factors (socio-political situation in the world; ideological attitudes). Special attention is paid to the description of the bank of standard texts of the main thematic groups. The work proposes tasks to control the level of formation of language and speech competencies within the framework of the academic discipline “Russian language in professional international activity” (level B2) at different stages of training. The scientific novelty of the study lies in developing criteria for the selection of journalistic texts for Russian language classes for foreigners studying in various educational programs (basic or additional). As a result of the research, the features of the use of media texts in the process of teaching students of a faculty of international relations are highlighted in comparison with the ways of presenting these texts within the framework of the course for students of international academic exchange programs.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The scientific novelty lies in developing a cognitive modeling experience of legal vocabulary through connotative meanings, where for the first time, J. Pustejovsky’s method of qualia structure analysis is applied to investigate the deep semantic structure of an abstract lexeme and its semantic variability. Through theoretical research, the importance of context, pragmatics, and syntax is demonstrated, highlighting the insignificance of characteristics such as abstractness and concreteness for describing the semantic structure of lexemes. The interdisciplinary nature of the research provides a key to connotative semantics, complementing the range of meanings with contextual senses. The identified zones of meanings are characterized as nuclear, circumnuclear, and peripheral depending on the degree of expression of these meanings: some are common and most frequent, while others are not present in all dictionary definitions or present only in specific contextual examples. The research findings amount to the discovery of the semantic features of varying expression levels in the German lexeme „Rechtsstaat“, among which the profound significant meaning of “justice” may be lost due to ethnopsychological factors of perception.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that a comparative analysis of the linguistic forms of the original and the translation is carried out for the first time at two levels of the text (logical and linguistic) and the ways of translating such a complex form of thought as a logical inference from English into Russian are identified. As a result, it was found that in most cases, the form of thought (inference) is preserved during translation. The reasons for non-preservation of inferences when translating from one language to another were identified. These include: a) incomplete translation, b) loss of the semantic causal relationship between the parts of the sentence characteristic of the original. It was shown that syntactic structures, representing the formal side of translation, are most susceptible to changes during the translation process, indicating the richness of the natural (Russian) language, which has synonymous means of expressing inferences. It was revealed that the degree of clarity of inference representation in translation (high, medium, low) depends on the presence or absence of formal linguistic means of explicating inferences in the target language. A comparison of the “English” explicators of logical inferences with their “Russian” translation counterparts made it possible to compare the scale of the degree of clarity of inferences expression during translation. It was proved that the scale of the degree of clarity of inferences expression in the original and the translation in most cases does not coincide.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The paper sheds light on the notion of a “linguocultural scenario”, describes the frame structure of the scenario by highlighting the supporting concepts and sub-concepts. The scientific novelty of the study consists in considering the English-language linguocultural scenario “Marketing”, which has not previously become the object of research, as a cognitive scheme of a speech situation using an integrated cognitive and cultural approach to linguistic material. As a result of the study, the predominance of structurally separable nominal linguistic units was determined, they are represented by non-prepositional constructions, two-component phrases with a deverbal substantive as a core element, means of compressive word formation and two-word verb phrases. Affixal agentive nouns, compound nouns denoting types of goods and basic terms of the marketing sphere, emotionally charged adjectives used in describing the qualities of goods and services, verbs of the business sphere and “highly specialized verbs” of the marketing domain predominate among structurally inseparable linguistic units.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The research aims to identify the border phenomena of the idyllic discourse and its specificity. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in examining the boundaries of the idyllic through the analysis of characters, chronotopes, and the motif system in the novella. The research findings revealed that in Turgenev’s work, all types of idyll – rural, familial, and romantic – are seemingly present, but they are only represented at the level of genre-specific features (beautiful nature, youthful age, first love). The novella represents a recollection, reflection, a turn to the “golden age” of the hero’s youth, his first infatuation, thus demonstrating elegiac traits. Through the lens of idyllic images, motifs, and details of the chronotope, their quasi-significance is seen. Semantic signs (the garden, linden trees, alleys) serve as substitutes for unrequited love. Details of “locus amoenus” are merely symbols linking the author’s work to the idyllic tradition, but in reality, they deviate from reader expectations and demonstrate the opposite of an idyllic world perception.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The correlation of the cognitive attributes with the object of cardiologists’ labour activity depending on their perception and evaluation of their main labour functions is determined. The object of this research is the associative fields of the HEART concept, generated on the basis of data from two directional associative experiments with restrictions of words-stimuli in terms of their quantity and parts of speech. The aim of the research is to reveal the presence/absence of dependence of the cognitive attributes of the HEART concept in the language consciousness of cardiologists on their professional employment. The general population included 400 associations. The research findings showed that not only the conceptual attributes of the HEART concept correlate with the professional activity of cardiologists, but also figurative and value attributes show reference to the heart as the main object of their labour activity. The novelty of the work lies in the confirmation of the hypothesis about the dependence of the cognitive attributes of a concept representing the main object of labour activity in the language consciousness of a person on their professional employment. In addition, the HEART concept in the language consciousness of cardiologists has been considered for the first time.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. Strongly protesting against the shortcomings of the world around him, he was also far from illusions that these shortcomings could soon be eradicated on account of a particular mentality of Russians. Nevertheless, the emergence of the “sun of Russian poetry” on the horizon of national history itself inspired a certain optimism about its prospects.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. Scientific originality of this research lies in the fact that the grammaticalization paths of the English and German pronouns ‘you’ and ‘Sie’ have been studied for the first time, with their etymology being analyzed and grammaticalization mechanisms being compared. The research findings have shown that the processes of grammaticalization of the pronouns under study are similar and caused by the same mechanisms: the desemanticization of original lexical items and the context extension. In both languages, as a result of grammaticalization, no changes have been identified on the morphological and phonetic levels. Grammaticalization caused the pronouns ‘you’ and ‘Sie’ to be used as a polite form of address to one person, spelt and pronounced as second- and third-person singular and plural pronouns ‘you’ and ‘sie’ ‘she, they’. The research proves the similarity of the processes of grammaticalization of the personal pronouns under study in two languages of different structure belonging to the same language group. This similarity is due to their common meaning.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The paper examines the lexical meaning of the relative and the presence of the functional meaning in dictionaries and works dedicated to prepositional units. The paper explores the meaning of the construction with ‘исходя из’, the semantics of the right (dependent) and left (main) components of the construction and outlines features indicative of the transition of this unit into a prepositional one. The study is novel in that it is the first to describe the semantic and syntactic functioning and to determine the degree of grammaticalization of the deverbal relative ‘исходя из’, which is a language unit that does not belong to the core of the preposition category. As a result, the study finds that the semantics of the deverbal relative, the meaning of the construction that expresses cause-effect relationships of phenomena reflecting various aspects of intellectual activities (denoted by verbs) and phenomena subject to interpretation (denoted by nouns), as well as the broadening of usage contexts are indicative of the grammaticalization of the examined unit.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology.
