Purpose: This study aims to investigate and analyze the attitudes toward vaccination and the factors conditioning hesitancy about the vaccine´s prevention of COVID-19 among three target groups: students, parents and teachers. Materials and methods: An online anonymous survey was conducted among 228 participants - students in 11th and 12th grade at two language high schools in the city of Plovdiv (n=114), teachers (n=44) and parents (n=70) in November 2021 Results: Vaccination attitudes were fairly heterogenous, ranging from complete agreement to categorical disagreement in the answers of all three studied groups. The prevailing opinion among parents is that vaccination has no absolute protective effect regarding the risk of infection with COVID-19. Both parents and teachers, as well as students, strongly object to mandatory vaccination against COVID-19. An important factor influencing the hesitancy of vaccine prevention is the concern of whether the new vaccines are harmless and effective. Negative expectations of possible adverse reactions to the administered vaccines are shared among half of the students and a significant part of the studied group of parents and teachers. Conclusions: Established factors influencing vaccine hesitancy should be considered when conducting future vaccination trial campaigns for immunoprophylaxis among adolescents.","PeriodicalId":508168,"journal":{"name":"Journal of IMAB - Annual Proceeding (Scientific Papers)","volume":"2013 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141706902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While health systems were being challenged by increasing demand for care of COVID-19 patients, it was critical to maintain preventive and curative services, especially for vulnerable populations. Materials and methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on epidemiological and demographic characteristics of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Pleven region (March 2020 – March 29 2023). Data were obtained from annual reports of the National Statistical Institute and annual epidemiological analyses of Regional Health Inspectorate–Pleven and were analyzed using statistical software (IВМ SPSS Statistics 19.0). Results: There were 36,308 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (medical workers – 2,176 confirmed cases), with 1,895 deaths. The cases during the years were 5,646 (2020), 16,258 (2021), 15,225 (2022). The incidence of COVID-19 in the region was 2,389; 6,964, and 6,668 at 100,000 populations in 2020, 2021 and 2022, respectively. The prevalence of the disease was 93%, 98% and 94% of all registered respiratory transmitted cases (p<0.0005). There were four waves with the highest incidence (November 2020, March 2021, October 2021, and January 2022, in concordance with registered for Bulgaria). The highest mortality of COVID-19 (15% of deaths) was registered during 2021 – 456 and 368 at 100,000 population for males and females, respectively (16% and 15% of deaths, respectively; 81% – at ages 65+). Conclusion: The global implementation of different interventions had a significant impact on slowing down the community transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Health care and resources must be focused on the vulnerable populations.","PeriodicalId":508168,"journal":{"name":"Journal of IMAB - Annual Proceeding (Scientific Papers)","volume":"119 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140378696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of vitamin D3 metabolism within pregnancy is an over-shadowed but very important aspect for the normal and healthy muscoskeletal development of the foetus and for the various alternative functions associated with vitamin D3 for the pregnant female. The purpose: To provide a detailed understanding ofhe current status of vitamin D3 and the role it has within pregnancy and to identify the efficacy and the wide range of effects that vitamin D3 has for both the mother and foetus. Materials and methods: We conducted a review of the available literature at PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct, which included observational studies, prospective and controlled trials, reports and guidelines for appropriate dosages of vitamin D3 to be used within pregnant females. Results and Discussion: Our review of the scientific literature showed evidence of the benefits of vitamin D3 within pregnant women and the effect, if any, on the numerous physiological processes taking place within both the mother and the foetus. We found data indicating that vitamin D3 can prove to be very important in preventingreeclampsia, gestational diabetes and congenital malformations of the foetus. Conclusion: The administration of vitamin D3 may be a potential technique to prevent complications to the mother and the developing foetus both during and after pregnancy, either solely or as a combined therapy.","PeriodicalId":508168,"journal":{"name":"Journal of IMAB - Annual Proceeding (Scientific Papers)","volume":"19 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140077272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, paediatric emergency sub-specialty is not yet well developed in most low and middle income countries. The purpose of the present study is to analyze the pediatric patients who passed through the emergency department of the hospital. Results: Total examined children - 44547. Hospitalized – 12 062 - 30.7% of the total. Boys predominate (54.0%). Children in the age group 1-10 years - 81.8%. The patient flow in the pediatric emergency department from other districts increased by 35.8%. Conclusion: Children are a particularly vulnerable group of patients who go through the emergency department, which is related to the specifics of pediatric care. The results of the study show that the largest proportion of pediatric patients are children aged 1-10 years, males, who sought medical help in connection with respiratory infections.","PeriodicalId":508168,"journal":{"name":"Journal of IMAB - Annual Proceeding (Scientific Papers)","volume":"112 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140091076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most authors are of the opinion that this plastic is suitable for defects that reach the medial canthal area and do not pass down to the lower eyelid. Aim: To present the glabellar flap technique as an option for the reconstruction of defects that extend below the medial canthus, which is an application outside the recommended indications of this technique. Results: The postoperative outcome was good in all patients. Positional anomalies are within the limits of functional comfort. None of the patients requested postoperative cosmetic correction of the surgical defect. Conclusion: We demonstrated the possibility of using this technique below the level of the medial canthus. It carries risks for the appearance of positional abnormalities of the eyelids after surgery, but if the influence of laxity, skin texture and shape of the operative defect is properly taken into account, this technique provides a good alternative to combined surgery.","PeriodicalId":508168,"journal":{"name":"Journal of IMAB - Annual Proceeding (Scientific Papers)","volume":"7 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140409704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the present study is to analyze our experience with patients who underwent radical prostatectomy and to look for the relationship between the pathological results from the operation and the distribution of patients into risk groups. Material/Methods: A single-center, non-interventional study was conducted. The study was performed after analysis of patients undergoing radical prostatectomy (either open or laparoscopic) at the Clinic of Urology in St. Anna Hospital in Varna. The number of patients available for analysis was 201. Data were analyzed with IBM SPSS version 23. Results: We found that high-risk patients had unfavorable results from the examination of the pathology specimens- patients with pT3a and pT3b were more often from the high-risk group. High-risk patients were also at increased risk of PSA progression and development of distant metastases. Conclusions: The EAU-risk groups will probably undergo changes connected with the improved methods for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. But still, it is a valid tool which correctly predicts the unfavorable pathology of the removed specimen and also the risk of biochemical progression after radical prostatectomy.","PeriodicalId":508168,"journal":{"name":"Journal of IMAB - Annual Proceeding (Scientific Papers)","volume":"35 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140425740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and methods: The subjects of the current study were 457 children. The clinical periodontal examination is performed in 4 levels. Gingival status is objectified by inspection and probing using (1) provoked gingival bleeding by the full mouth bleeding score (FMBS) with a diagnostic threshold above 10% bleeding gingival units and (2) gingival index according to Loe and Silness (GILS), with a diagnostic threshold above 0. Results: Gingival inflammation could be detected in 64.3% of the children studied, with a mild form of plaque-induced gingivitis in 40% of them, concentrated mainly on the vestibular surfaces in the frontal regions of both jaws. In 87% of the same children studied, we recorded an initial degree of gingival inflammation with a gingival GILS index value above 0, also concentrated in the frontal areas of both dental arches.","PeriodicalId":508168,"journal":{"name":"Journal of IMAB - Annual Proceeding (Scientific Papers)","volume":"278 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140427676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
