Ocular involvement is rare, observed in immunocompromised patients, particularly those infected with HIV, where retinal involvement may occur. Inflammatory chorioretinitis with bilateral retinal serous detachment is a rare entity in EBV infections. This case report describes inflammatory chorioretinitis with bilateral serous retinal detachment in an immunocompetent patient, resulting from Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. Although ocular involvement by EBV is rare in immunocompetent patients, this case highlights the importance of considering this possibility. The patient was successfully treated with acyclovir, highlighting the potential efficacy of antivirals in these situations. Amid the diverse spectrum of potential causes, the focus is directed towards amyloidosis—a distinct category characterized by abnormal amyloid fibril accumulation in organs. Despite its infrequency, the gravity and potential for targeted interventions accentuate the importance of considering amyloidosis in the differential diagnosis. Case Presentation: A detailed case study of a 68-year-old female with generalized edematous syndrome revealed a complex clinical scenario involving cardiac and renal manifestations. AL amyloidosis was confirmed through thorough diagnostic assessments, guiding a targeted therapeutic approach. Discussion: The discussion delves into the pathophysiology of AL amyloidosis, diagnostic considerations, and the significance of ECG and echocardiographic findings. It highlights the importance of laboratory assessments, especially immunologic tests, and emphasizes the role of biopsy in confirming the diagnosis. Conclusion: The complexity of AL amyloidosis is underscored, emphasizing the interplay of cardiac, renal, and hematologic aspects. Early diagnosis and a tailored multidisciplinary therapeutic approach yielded positive outcomes, contributing valuable insights to the evolving understanding of amyloidosis management.","PeriodicalId":507376,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Case Reports and Medical History","volume":" 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139142100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its diagnosis is based on a clinical score (international criteria’s) including oral and genital aphthosis, neurological, ophthalmological, and vascular involvement. Cardiac involvement is a rare complication and can affect all three tunics. Coronary involvement is exceptional and can be life threatening. We report the observation of a 38-year-old man suffering from Behcet's disease who presented a myocardial infarction related to the occlusion of the proximal anterior interventricular artery.","PeriodicalId":507376,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Case Reports and Medical History","volume":"19 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139156283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this observation, we report the case of a patient who presented with this condition following abdominal blunt trauma. Case presentation: This is a 30-year-old patient with Crohn's disease who was being followed anarchically. She presented with peritonitis following violent abdominal blunt trauma, which was operated on with some diagnostic delay. Discussion: Abdominal blunt trauma could lead to small bowel perforation in patients with Crohn's disease. Especially when the small bowel is weakened by non-adherence to therapy, as in our case. Diagnosis is often delayed, as the clinical signs are discreet. On the other hand, trauma surgeons focus more on solid organs than hollow ones. Conclusion: Abdominal blunt trauma in Crohn's disease increase the risk of occurrence of perforated bowel, especially when the therapeutic follow-up of these patients is not rigorous or in the event of non-adherence to therapy. Delayed diagnosis of these perforations may increase their morbidity.","PeriodicalId":507376,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Case Reports and Medical History","volume":"179 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139210639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of nutraceutics and supplements as additional tool for treating chronic pain has grown up in popularity in the past 10 years. Uridine monophosphate as well as acetyl_L-carnitine and also alpha lipoic acid have shown efficacy in treatment of pain due to neuropathies and symptomatic peripheral entrapments. In this survey a review of the literature is reported. In addiction, based on the cited evidences on efficacy of these ingredients in treatment of NP, an observational pilot study to evaluate the efficacy of combined Uridine Monofosphate, acetyl-L-carnitine and Alpha-lipoic-acid in reducing pain even in chronic radiculopathy is presented.","PeriodicalId":507376,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Case Reports and Medical History","volume":"37 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139251920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
