This study aimed to determine the effects on mental health‐related stigma, mental health literacy, and knowledge about mental health difficulties and support techniques among program participants.The target population was local residents of a wide range of generations in Japan. Outcomes were assessed at baseline (T1), immediately postintervention (T2), and at the 6‐month follow‐up (T3). A mixed model for repeated‐measures conditional growth model analyses were employed to examine the effects of the intervention over time (T1, T2, T3). We also calculated effect sizes using Cohen's d.The program had a significantly favorable pooled effect on the Japanese version of the Reported and Intended Behaviour Scale score after adjusting for covariates (reported behavior [t = 3.20, p = 0.001]; intended behavior [t = 8.04, p < 0.001]). However, when compared at each time point, only intended behavior from T1 to T2 showed a significant difference (t = 8.37, p < 0.001). Significant pooled effects were found for mental health literacy (knowledge: t = 19.85, p < 0.001; attitude: t = 15.02, p < 0.001), knowledge of mental health (t = 28.04, p < 0.001), and psychological distress (t = −2.41, p = 0.016).The results suggest that the program might be effective for improving intended, but not reported, behavior in the short term and for improving mental health literacy, knowledge of mental health, and psychological distress.","PeriodicalId":507124,"journal":{"name":"Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports","volume":"169 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140279600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While established treatments targeted acetylcholine and NMDA receptors, there is a growing demand for innovative therapies as the aging population increases. The paper highlights the US Food and Drug Administration's approval of aducanumab (Aduhelm) and lecanemab (Leqembi), emphasizing the developmental status of new treatments. Specifically, it covers seven principal drugs in Phase III trials, detailing their mechanisms of action, clinical trial specifics in the United States and Japan, and the current status of regulatory applications. The review focuses on amyloid removal (donanemab), tau protein mitigation (E2814), drug repositioning (Semaglutide, GV1001), and disease‐modifying small molecules (fosgonimeton, hydralazine, masitinib). However, Gantenerumab and Solanezumab, unsuccessful in Phase III, are not covered. While the future approval status remains uncertain, we hope these drugs will offer beneficial therapeutic effects for potential dementia patients.","PeriodicalId":507124,"journal":{"name":"Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports","volume":"162 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140283539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a relatively rare case of antileucine‐rich glioma‐inactivated 1 (LGI1) encephalitis that developed only psychiatric symptoms at the onset.The patient was a male in his 40s who developed anxiety and panic symptoms and was started on antidepressants after being diagnosed with panic disorder by a psychiatrist. He visited our hospital 2 months later presenting with hallucinations, delusions, mild cognitive decline, and faciobrachial dystonic seizures in the left upper extremity and face. Fluid‐attenuated inversion recovery magnetic resonance imaging revealed swelling and hyperintensities in the right caudate nucleus and putamen. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis did not show increased protein levels or cell counts and revealed positive oligoclonal bands. Subsequently, positive results for anti‐LGI1 antibodies were observed in the cerebrospinal fluid. Therefore, the patient was diagnosed with anti‐LGI1 encephalitis.This case highlights the need to consider anti‐LGI1 encephalitis therapy in patients with acute‐onset psychiatric symptoms.","PeriodicalId":507124,"journal":{"name":"Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports","volume":"37 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140267984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of considering PSP in the differential diagnosis of late‐life mood disorders, especially in the absence of response to standard antidepressant therapy, is also emphasized. The heterogeneity of PSP is described, with various subtypes and atypical variants presenting with different clinical features. The psychiatric symptoms of PSP include apathy, disinhibition, depression, and anxiety, whereas hallucinations and delusions are less frequent. Tau positron emission tomography imaging is discussed as a potential biomarker for atypical PSP.Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for improved outcomes in PSP, necessitating further research to enhance the diagnostic and treatment strategies for PSP and other neurodegenerative diseases.","PeriodicalId":507124,"journal":{"name":"Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports","volume":"2 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140442908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Longitudinal panel data were used, with eight follow‐up surveys over 6 years, approximately every 6 months. Of the 2752 samples from the eight follow‐up surveys, 2293 were analyzed as the complete panel data set. The primary outcome was drug abstention for approximately 6 months. The influences of situational factors during this period on the primary outcome were also assessed using a generalized linear mixed model in which inter‐individual differences were controlled as variable effects.The use of residential DARCs positively influenced the primary outcome (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] 3.33, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.79–6.21) when compared to no DARC usage. The cessation of drinking also positively affected the primary outcome (AOR 3.10, 95% CI 1.79–4.62), while employment status (AOR 2.22, 95% CI 1.12–4.41) and the cessation of drinking (AOR 4.92, 95% CI 2.77–8.72) positively impacted the primary outcomes of patients not using DARCs.The use of residential DARCs and the cessation of drinking positively affected drug abstention rates. Employment and the cessation of drinking for patients who were not using the DARCs also had a positive effect. This information will aid in the development of social recovery strategies for people with drug use disorders.","PeriodicalId":507124,"journal":{"name":"Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports","volume":"258 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140447033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Comparisons of DAT availability between HCs and adult patients with ADHD and the association between symptom severity and DAT availability within the ADHD group were analyzed using Statistical Parametric Mapping 12.Drug‐naive adults with ADHD showed significantly reduced DAT availability in the bilateral nucleus accumbens compared with HCs. Correlation analyses revealed a negative correlation between the severity of inattentive symptoms in adult patients with ADHD and DAT availability in the bilateral heads of the caudate nucleus, indicating the association between severe inattentive symptoms and lower DAT availability in the caudate nucleus.In drug‐naive adult patients with ADHD, DAT availability was reduced in the nucleus accumbens, an important part of the reward system. This finding indicates the importance of the DAT in the reward system in the pathogenesis of ADHD. Inattentiveness was associated with DAT availability in the caudate nucleus, suggesting involvement of the cortico‐striato‐thalamo‐cortical circuit.","PeriodicalId":507124,"journal":{"name":"Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports","volume":"384 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140452781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
