Furthermore, the increase in the cost of synthetic fertilizers makes the use of organic matter in soils viable. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the use of multivariate statistics through the analysis of the main components in the contents of chemical elements in two layers of soil in a bean cultivation cycle and to determine the possible correlations of the variables with the respective treatments. Biochar was made from sewage sludge. Cultivation was carried out under rainfed conditions. The treatments used were NPK = synthetic fertilizer; B5 = Biochar 5 t ha-1; B10 = Biochar 10 t ha-1; B20 = Biochar 20 t ha-1; B40 = Biochar 40 t ha-1; CM = chicken manure 5 t ha-1; and SS = Sewage sludge 5 t ha-1. In the 0-0.1 m layer, PC1 explained 71.82% of the data variability, influenced by K, P, Mg, SO42-, TOC and N, while PC2 influenced salinity and acidity. Biochar, at doses of 20 and 40 t ha-1, improved nutrient availability. In the 0.1-0.2 m layer, PC1 explained 84.39% of the variability, with contributions from all variables, while PC2 influenced the Mg concentration. This study aimed to investigate the effects of blanching time and temperature on three commercial mushroom varieties' lightness and color variation and determine the optimal operation conditions. Three specimens were collected: Agaricus bisporus Paris Champignon, Agaricus bisporus Portobello, and Lentinula edodes Shiitake. The composite central rotational design and the response surface methodology were employed to evaluate the combined effects of blanching temperature (ranging from 53.8°C to 96.2°C) and time (ranging from 10.3 seconds to 349.7 seconds) on the color parameters L* (lightness), a* (redness-greenness) and b* (yellowness-blueness) of mushrooms slices. Cutting, oxygen exposure, and temperature below 75°C significantly affected the color by reducing L* and b* values and increasing a* values, favoring the mushrooms' darkening (higher △L). The bleaching operation optimized to minimize color variation (△E) was at 80°C for 170 seconds for Champignon, 83°C for 209 seconds for Portobello, and 82°C for 186 seconds for Shitake. In this context, the objective of this study was to analyse the data from the notifications of the Panel of Surveillance on Health of Populations Exposed to Pesticides (VSPEA) by the Ministry of Health for the State of Paraíba, in the historical series from 2007 to 2022. The analysis included the incidence rate; prioritized municipalities for the implementation of surveillance programs; distribution of notifications by gender, age group, exposure location, circumstance, and type of agent. Paraíba has accumulated 2,793 notifications of exogenous intoxication by pesticides. Regarding gender and age group, there is a slight predominance in notifications for women (50.18%), with higher numbers for men aged 40 and older, and for women in the 10 to 29 age group. The vast majority of intoxications occur in homes (74.83%), as a result of suicide attempts (57.50%), with rodenticides being the most common agents (50.30%). Currently, there are 1,316 pesticides approved for commercialization and use in the state, with the majority classified as highly toxic products. It can be concluded that the significant number of notifications indicates that health units are effectively contributing to the systems, and/or cases of intoxication are increasing indiscriminately, mainly due to the easy acquisition of rodenticides. Neste estudo foi analisado o efeito de extratos aquosos e frações obtidos com resina amberlite XAD-2 de folhas, caules e raízes de T. aculeata na germinação e proliferação celular de sementes de Allium cepa L. (Amaryllidaceae). Uma análise de Componentes Principais (PCoA) foi realizada para observar semelhanças e dissimilaridades nas respostas do índice de germinação relativo e índice mitótico entre as amostras, e os cromatogramas das amostras foram obtidos utilizando um cromatógrafo líquido de alta eficiência (UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS). Os extratos das folhas (LE) e frações (LF), na concentração de 100 µg/mL, apresentaram redução no índice de germinação em relação ao controle, com valores de 81,66 ± 6,02 para LE e 80,26 ± 6,87 para LF. Em relação ao índice mitótico, sementes tratadas com todos os extratos e frações de T. aculeata agiram de maneira dose-dependente. Os resultados obtidos referentes aos índices de germinação e mitótico indicaram um efeito alelopático das amostras. Na análise de proliferação celular os extratos dos caules (SE) e frações (SF) foram os mais citotóxicos, apresentando valor de índice mitótico de 9,00 ± 0,2 para SE e 8,4 ± 0,5 para SF, a 1000 µg/mL. A análise do PCoA permitiu observar uma diferença significativa nos caules e raízes comparados às folhas, que foram também observadas nos cromatogramas gerados a partir das diferentes amostras. The phytochemical aspects of guarana have been extensively explored for its use in herbal and cosmetic compositions due to the presence of metabolites, such as methylxanthines and polyphenols. This work aims to fill a gap in the information about the presence and accumulation of methylxanthines and polyphenols in leaves and fruits of guarana cultivars. Thus, information will be generated to contribute for future studies on guarana genetic improvement and plant physiology. Methylxanthines (caffeine [Cf], theobromine [Tb], and theophylline [Tf]) and phenolic compounds (catechin [Ct] and epicatechin [EC]) were quantified by HPLC in the leaves and fruits (pericarp and seed) of eighteen guarana cultivars. Tf was not detected in any tissue. Caffeine is present almost exclusively in seeds (4.21 ± 0.69 g.100g dry weight-1), while theobromine is predominant in leaves. Although catechin and epicatechin are present in both tissues, their contents are higher in seeds, with mean values of 1.36 and 0.76 g.100g dry weight-1, respectively. In guarana cultivars under study, BRS-Satere and BRS-608 stood out due to the high caffeine and phenolic contents in seeds. Studies characterizing these materials are scarce, though. This work aimed to characterize proximal composition, technological properties, thermal properties, and moisture adsorption isotherms. Carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins were the major components. Thermogravimetric analyses showed three mass loss events, with the onset of degradation processes at 200 °C and first-order transitions in a temperature range between -42 °C to 205 °C, with a glass transition at 1 °C. Water and oil retentions were 153% and 89% of their mass, respectively. The seeds showed hygroscopic characteristics, with a monolayer moisture value between 3.4-5.9 g H2O.100 g solids-1 (dry basis). The GAB and Oswin were the best models to describe the moisture adsorption isotherms at 25 °C. An experimental design was carried out based on the influence of these hydrophilic polymers on the gel formation characteristics, evaluating the gelation time at 37 °C as a response. After selecting the formulation with the required characteristics, OECC was added and the blend was characterized by pH, spreadability, viscosity, rheology, and chemical analysis. Chitosan, a polymer defined by the design, provided the formation of the gelled blend in a shorter time and the absence of precipitates. The presence of OECC allows for discreet changes in chemical properties (in the infrared spectrum, displacement of the C=C peak of the oil in the blend; in pH, a slight increase to 4.6); but not in the rheological ones, only a reduction in spreadability and maintenance of the pseudoplastic behavior of the blend without the OECC. A few true fly (Diptera) species use chemical defenses and among the adult ones, these mechanisms have only been formally registered in the family Sepsidae. Some species of this family possess an abdominal gland (Dufour gland) that produces a substance with a characteristic and intense odor. This odor supposedly turns the sepsids unpalatable to their predators. However, there is no study testing this hypothesis with Neotropical species yet. Thus, the aim of this study is to verify if two neotropical species of Sepsidae (Archisepsis armata and Microsepsis armillata) are unpalatable to invertebrate predators (jumping spiders, giant crab spiders, and mantises). The experiment consisted in offering specimens of sepsids (treatment group) and fruit flies (drosophilids; control group) to three species of predators. Furthermore, a study of the internal morphology of the two sepsid species has been performed to verify the presence of the Dufour gland. There has not been any significant predation difference between the sepsids and the control group, and the Dufour gland has not been found in both of them. No Laboratório de Análises de Sementes da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, foram avaliadas quatro doses de ácido húmico (0, 5, 10 e 15 L ha-1) e seis cultivares de soja (BRS FAVORITA RR, BRS VALIOSA RR, BRSGO 7560, TMG 801, UFUS 6901 e UFUS 7101) em esquema fatorial 4 × 6. Adotou-se o delineamento de blocos casualizados com cinco repetições, sendo cada parcela composta por um rolo de papel germitest com 50 sementes. Os rolos foram mantidos em germinador, a 25 ºC e 12 horas de luz por seis dias. Após a avaliação, verificou-se que as cultivares de soja afetam de maneira significativa todas as características avaliadas na germinação e crescimento inicial das plântulas, exceto a porcentagem de plântulas danificadas e sementes duras. Independente da cultivar, 5 L ha-1 de ácido húmico, proporciona maior porcentagem de germinação e de plântulas de alto vigor; menor porcentagem total de plântulas anormais e classificadas como deformadas; assim como maior comprimento e acúmulo de matéria fresca de parte aérea e total das plântulas. No entanto, para porcentagem de plântulas deterioradas, comprimento e matéria fresca de raiz, acúmulo de matéria seca e relação raiz/parte aérea, as cultivares de soja apresentam comportamento distinto em função das doses de ácido húmico.
