The species is one of the very rare and few taxa of Thymus sect. Serpyllum subsect. Insulares and is characterized mainly by its small habit with reptant stems, broadly ovate to elliptical, entire leaf blade, and a capitate to oblong inflorescence with entire bracts, which are different from the leaves. The name is here lectotypified with a specimen housed in the Montpellier University Herbarium. The population is here reported for the first time as a new floristic record for Tunisia. Moreover, geographical distribution and habitat of T. dreatensis is given. In addition, the nomenclature of three species of Thymus that are morphologically close to T. dreatensis and endemic to North Africa, is discussed: T. atlanticus is lectotypified with a specimen housed in Herb. K; T. guyonii is neotypified with a specimen housed in Herb. P; T. pallescens is lectotypified with the same detailed plate on which the name was published.","PeriodicalId":506155,"journal":{"name":"Phytotaxa","volume":"83 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141662617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The morphological characteristics, together with molecular studies, confirmed that the species is a novel species. The species is characterized by a small to medium-sized, radially branched, white to yellowish white basidiomata with a base colour of light brown to violet red and greyish yellow elsewhere that turns brownish orange when bruised, a cylindrical to bacilliform basidiospore, basally clamped four-spored basidia, and clamped hyphae. The identification of this pathogenic strain was determined based on the cultural features, asexual-morphs, and phylogenetic analysis based on translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef-1α), RNA polymerase second largest subunit (rpb2), internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), 28S large subunit (LSU), and β-tubulin (tub2) sequence data. The detailed taxonomic descriptions, cultural, microscopic images, and phylogenetic trees are presented for the introduced taxon. The sequencing data of this isolate exhibited substantial distinctness from the previously discovered species of Fusarium and created a unique distinct clade. This is the first study that reports infection in Chamaedorea seifrizii plants caused by Fusarium species.","PeriodicalId":506155,"journal":{"name":"Phytotaxa","volume":"19 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141664996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The genus was recently restablished and is recognized by presenting shrubs and trees, with lax racemes or spiciform racemes, leaves with 1–3 pairs of pinnae and 2–7 pairs of leaflets in each pinna, thin and lateraly compressed legumes, curved to spiral, and seeds lacking pleurogram. Recent advances on legumes systematics have been producing great challenges on the circumscription of genera, especially on the mimosoid clade. Molecular phylogenetic studies confirm that Punjuba is monophyletic, and a revision of the genus and species circumscriptions are needed. Here we present a taxonomic revision of Punjuba, providing an identification key for all species currently recognized in the genus, morphological descriptions, and distribution maps. We recognize six species in the genus: P. callejasii, P. centiflora, P. killipii, P. lehmannii, P. racemiflora and P. foreroana, being the last one described here as a new species. Abarema josephi is proposed as a new synonym of P. lehmannii. Morphological characters including the inflorescence, indumentum, leaves and leaflets, besides quantitative characters, were applied as diagnostic to recognize the species.","PeriodicalId":506155,"journal":{"name":"Phytotaxa","volume":"38 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During surveys of macro-fungi diversity and taxonomy in Sichuan Province, China, two samples were collected in the forests dominated by Quercus glauca and identified as a new member of this genus, namely Mallocybe longquanensis. Morphologically, M. longquanensis is distinguished by its small-sized basidioma, light brown to yellowish-brown pileus covered with tomentose-fibrillose, ellipsoidal or ovoid basidiospores, as well as the utriform, clavate to cylindrical cheilocystidia. Multi-gene phylogenetic analysis of ITS, LSU, and rpb2 also revealed that the new taxon forms a distinct lineage within the genus Mallocybe. The detailed morphological features, color photographs, and comparisons with morphological similar taxa are provided.","PeriodicalId":506155,"journal":{"name":"Phytotaxa","volume":"33 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141665137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was found in three distant localities – shallows of a brackish small lake and a channel in the midland steppe in Mongolia and the Altai Mountains, and a small brackish water body in the dry steppe in Southeast Europe. It differs from other species in rbcL and ITS sequences and in distinct complex ornamentation of the oospore surface, varying from sparsely coarsely tuberculate to having the appearance of an aerial view of mountain landscape with acute to mostly sharp edges of elements at probably the ripest stage. Wide intrapopulation variability of expression of this trait, only partly explainable by oospore ripening stage, was found and illustrated for two populations, indicating previous underestimation of this phenomenon in taxonomic research. T. mongolica is richly fertile and appears to be ephemeral as most species of this genus. Only female plants were found in all localities. The absence of male plants could be referred to either their earlier development during the growing season or, less likely, parthenogenesis in this species. The description of the new species suggests taxonomic changes for two dioecious species of charophytes. Tolypella porteri stat. et comb. nov. was validated here. T. jwalae was recognized as a species of Nitella, N. jwalae comb. nov.","PeriodicalId":506155,"journal":{"name":"Phytotaxa","volume":"93 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141664242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its affinities within the genus are analyzed and discussed. The new species is obviously very different from the two described species in Morocco and can be easily distinguished from those species by its distinct appendage with a very wide scarious margin and by its longer achenes. According to analyses of sequenced nuclear markers ITS and ETS, the new species cannot be reduced to any of the existing Rhaponticoides species. This may suggest that the species is an early branch separated from the bulk of the genus. The conservation issue is considered since the plants occur in a very cultivated zone. Photographic illustrations of the new plant species and an updated key to the Rhaponticoides species in Morocco are also provided.","PeriodicalId":506155,"journal":{"name":"Phytotaxa","volume":"50 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
