This species is morphologically and phylogenetically (ITS and nLSU) close to Neomensularia crocitincta, distributed in Central America, Cuba and Jamaica, but can be distinguished by its larger basidiomata, a duplex context featuring a distinct black line, and golden yellow basidiospores.
