An adult male caracara with a left humeral fracture was successfully treated using a multimodal anesthetic approach. The combination of dexmedetomidine, ketamine, midazolam, and morphine provided effective anesthesia, resulting in muscle relaxation and hemodynamic stability. The brachial plexus block, performed with the aid of a nerve stimulator, was essential for segmental analgesia. The anesthetic protocol employed allowed for the entire surgical procedure to be conducted pain-free and safely. Postoperative recovery was rapid and uncomplicated, with bone consolidation confirmed by radiographs. It is concluded that the brachial plexus block combined with balanced anesthesia is a viable and safe option for orthopedic procedures in birds of prey","PeriodicalId":505714,"journal":{"name":"Concilium","volume":"54 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patient in a long hospital stay, unable to eat an oral diet, malnourished, chronic cough, developing persistent pneumonia due to recurrent salivary bronchoaspiration. The case was treated by complex surgical intervention consisting of proximal and distal partial esophagectomy with reconstruction of food transit by colonic bypass in the anterior mediastinum, resection and tracheal reanastomosis. The final result was good, with the patient being discharged from the hospital on a restored oral diet and free spontaneous breathing. It is accessible to all social extracts. In addition, substantial demand growth is expected in the coming decades, which requires a significant increase in production volume. Consequently, there is a question of how these eggs will be produced. The current production systems must meet demands related to environmental sustainability, ensuring food security in terms of production volume and product safety. Thus, this study assesses the environmental performance of intensive and automated egg production in conventional cages in the southern region of Brazil. The data that comprise the inventory were modeled from data collected on a farm between 2017 and 2018. We conducted the assessment using the methodology of life cycle analysis (LCA) and the software Open LCA v. 1.7.4. The functional unit (FU) used was one ton of eggs (equivalent to 17,873 units), and the results were allocated financially. The impact attribution method was CML 2002; the database was Ecoinvent v. 3.4. The impact categories evaluated were acidification, with a total impact of 6.47 kg SO2-eq/FU, eutrophication, with a result of 4.17 kg PO4-eq/FU, and a carbon footprint of 1,411.85 CO2-eq/FU. We conclude that the environmental externalities of egg production in Brazil’s southern region are similar to those reported by other studies worldwide. The production phase is responsible for about 85% of the environmental impacts in the categories evaluated. The feeding of birds contributes to the largest share of impacts.","PeriodicalId":505714,"journal":{"name":"Concilium","volume":"45 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To construct the guiding question “What is the state of the art on the impact of work as a military police officer on the mental health of these professionals?”. The following inclusion criteria were used: articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese, published between January 2019 and January 2024, containing the terms raised on the topic. After reading the 13 selected articles in full, they were grouped into three categories, namely: “Risk factors and traumatic experiences”; “Assessment and monitoring of the mental health of military police officers”; and “Prevalence and characteristics of mental disorders in military police officers”. It is clear that more interventions are needed to facilitate the systematic identification and referral of agents to health services, while also addressing their concerns.","PeriodicalId":505714,"journal":{"name":"Concilium","volume":"12 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A cross-sectional study was developed in a consecutive sample of 1,062 crack users from Pernambuco, Brazil between August/2014 and August/2015. The effect of factors associated with inconsistent condom use was estimated using multiple regression. The prevalence of HIV infection among women (8.1%) was double that among men (4.3%). Inconsistent condom use occurred in 77.8% of women and 74.7% of men. There were differences between the sexes for factors associated with unprotected sexual intercourse. Among men, inconsistent use was related to programmatic vulnerability, such as having access to condoms. Among women, social vulnerability was decisive, including factors related to religion. These differences suggest specific strategies for preventing Sexually Transmitted Infections.","PeriodicalId":505714,"journal":{"name":"Concilium","volume":"52 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: This is ecological time series study in which data were obtained from Brazil's Mortality Information System. The population was obtained through death certificates and investigation forms of the underlying cause of death classified by code C91.0 for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in the International Classification of Diseases from 2000 to 2020 in the Federal District, Brazil. Statistical analysis was performed using Prais-Winsten linear regression. Results: The deaths from ALL predominantly occurred in male (51.70%), single (60.41%), and white (52.16%) subjects, as well as in those with four to seven years of schooling (27.37%). During the last 20 years, ALL mortality increased among subjects aged 0-4 and 50-59 years, with increment rates of 9.0% and 8.7% respectively. In children, ALL generally has a short latency time, progressing more quickly and invasively. Conclusions: Knowledge regarding mortality patterns for ALL in the Federal District will allow optimizing the allocation of federal and local resources, as well as understanding gaps in diagnosis and specific therapies that still need attention on the part of public policy makers.","PeriodicalId":505714,"journal":{"name":"Concilium","volume":"3 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141668148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a descriptive ecological study of time series, with data from the SUS Hospital Information System, analyzed using Prais-Winsten generalized linear regression. Between 2013 and 2022, 453.714 hospitalizations due to cutaneous malignancy were recorded, 80.4% of which were elective and the average mortality rate was 2.1%. On the other hand, hospitalizations that progressed to cure showed the highest values (22.7 and 69.1 cases/100,000) and an increasing trend. The hospitalization rate in Brazil grew, from 16.2 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in 2013 to 28.6 per 100 inhabitants in 2022, however, there was a reduction in 2020 and 2021, the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. There was an increase in the coefficient of hospitalizations during the period analyzed, especially in the age group of 80 years, males and Southern Brazil, although a stationary mortality rate is maintained. Thus, it is important to improve public policies that raise awareness among the population about skin cancer, in order to carry out an early diagnosis and treatment, aiming at reducing complications and saving the public system.","PeriodicalId":505714,"journal":{"name":"Concilium","volume":"104 51","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141667296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
