These switching transients can take several cycles to die out if the burden imposed by the secondary connected devices is a fraction of the CVT rated burden. In this paper, the transient response of the CVTs connected to low burden numerical relays is studied in detail and than the methods to improve the same are discussed. The methods discussed vary from simple modifications in existing CVT design to some major changes in the CVT construction. The paper gives a comprehensive coverage of design issues for CVTs intended to be used with numerical relays. The study of this resonance is important to avoid problems associated with background voltage distortion. The analytical results are validated with experimental measurements. Discrete signals in power systems can be expressed by the sum of several damped exponential sine functions. Therefore, dominant mode and residues included in the signals are estimated by applying parameter estimation methods. They are compared in their search for the sync among output signals. In the dominant oscillation mode included in many signals, the modes that have similar frequencies and damping constants were selected. By comparing their residues and phases, the sync of low frequency oscillations was examined. By identifying the sync of wide area oscillations, it was possible to differentiate between the generator and load characteristics. The sync exploring method proposed in this paper, together with sync indexes, were applied to a two area system and the KEPCO system to confirm that it is possible to search for the sync phenomenon in signals of large scale power systems. In this paper, multi-agent system (MAS) is applied for the power distribution system service restoration task using local information by utilizing the characteristics of information sharing. Each software agent is running autonomously and is able to exchange information within limited distance. Every agent is capable of performing service restoration such that service restoration can be performed in parallel when a multiple fault scenario occurs. As a result, the outage period can be reduced. BDI (believe–desire–intention) agent architecture is implemented in this paper for group and zone service restoration for power distribution systems. Zone/switch relation table is built and used by agents in order to identify adequate switching actions during the service restoration planning stage. The proposed MAS is implemented on JADE (Java Agent Development) platform. The simulation results show that the proposed BDI-based service restoration agent system is capable of providing adequate restoration switching plan in several scenarios. The effects of DG units in reducing the reinforcement costs and active power losses of distribution network have been investigated. In the presented method, the integration of DG units in distribution network is done considering both technical and economical aspects. The strength of the proposed method is evaluated by applying it on a small and a realistic large scale distribution network and the results are compared with analytical classic and other heuristic methods and discussed. Various equity principles have been practiced in emission allowance allocations, and some of them conflict. The main purpose of this work is to present an emission allowance allocation methodology that takes into account both individual interests and different versions of equity and makes progress toward reaching a global consensus for emission allowance allocation in deregulated power systems. We propose nine equity principles for emission allowance allocation. We combine a hierarchical system with a voting mechanism to incorporate various definitions of equity and to find a compromise solution. The voting mechanism is used for selecting equity principles for each power plant (market participant). The hierarchical system is composed of two subsystems. The upper level subsystem computes the emission allowances among all regions, while the lower level subsystem obtains the emission allowances among the power plants in each region. A test power system serves to illustrate the essential features of the proposed methodology, and the results are used to investigate the choice of equity principles of different types of power plants located in different regions. The cost function of the generating units exhibits the non-convex characteristics, as the valve-point effects are modeled and imposed as rectified sinusoid components in the cost function. An improved evolution direction operator and gene swap operator are introduced in the proposed approach to improve the convergence characteristic of the genetic algorithm (GA). The non-stationary penalty functions (NSPF) are introduced to put more selective pressure on the GA to find a feasible solution, resulting in difficulty during solution searching. The non-stationary penalty is a function of the number of iterations that, in the proposed method, are based on a sigmoid function as the number of iteration increases so does the penalty. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a dispatch case consisting of 10 units and 24 time intervals has been considered. Numerical results indicate that the performance of the IGA-NSPF presents the best results when compared with previous optimization methods in solving DED problems with the valve-point effect. First, two statistical hypotheses that represent these differences are defined. Then by testing these hypotheses using runs test and by comparing the outputs of the hypotheses, a criterion to identify the internal fault is obtained. A total of 200 experimental cases are used to test the performance of the technique. In all of the tests, the proposed method accurately distinguished between fault and inrush currents without any errors. Also the suitable performance of the method is demonstrated by simulation of different faults and switching conditions on a power transformer. For this purpose, a small part of Iran power system involving a power transformer and the transmission lines on both sides of the transformer has been considered. To apply the method, the largest Lyapunov exponent and correlation dimension are firstly calculated which show the electric load series is essentially a chaotic time series. Then, a multivariate chaotic prediction method is proposed taking historical load and temperature into account. Phase space reconstruction of a univariate time series is extended to construct a multivariate time series. Delay time and embedding dimension of the historical load series and temperature series are determined by mutual information and minimal forecasting error, respectively. Finally, a three-layer RBF neural network is employed to forecast the load of one day ahead and one week ahead. Real load data of Chongqing Power Grid are tested. Daily and weekly forecasting results show that the proposed multivariate approach improves the accuracy of forecasting significantly comparing with the univariate methods. Discussion of forecasting error and future work are also presented. As an efficient and effective alternative for STLF, the chaos theory based multivariate forecasting is feasible for potential application.
