The integration of an energy storage system, such as battery energy storage system (BESS), into a flexible alternating current transmission system device can provide dynamic decentralized active power capabilities and much needed flexibility for mitigating transmission level power flow problems. A model of power system with BESS compensation devices that integrate classic third-order model of generator and BESS model was deducted and established in this paper. The BESS unit is located near the generator bus terminal in a power system. Using multi-index nonlinear control design method, BESS and generator excitation were designed by coordinate control scheme for the model above. The controller proposed in this paper is good in improving the dynamic characteristics of state variables, so as to enhance the stable operation capacity of the system. The simulation on single-machine infinite-bus power system demonstrates the effectiveness and the practicality of the controller. The bidding strategies are represented by two modifications of a classical data processing structure known as finite-state automata. Semi-fixed fitness function and co-evolutionary fitness function were incorporated in our GA. A third simple representation to obtain a comparison baseline for the other two representations, showing how their behaviors compare with a “standard” solution, was also incorporated. The strategies developed by our method were adaptive, and all GA types were based on maximizing profit in a competitive bidding situation. Material analysis apparatuses such as for atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction instrument, combined with electrical analysis apparatuses such as high-resistance meter, dielectric spectra meter, and cylinder–cylinder electrodes, were employed to investigate molecule chain structure, aggregation state structure, permittivity, dielectric loss factor, volume conductivity, and electrical strength of oil-impregnated paper insulation during the damage process. Results reveal that crystal regions of insulation paper suffer more severe damage during partial discharge damage process compared with the amorphous regions. Crystallinity exhibits an increasing trend and crystal grain orientation is enhanced, whereas crystal grain size, crystal type, and two-phase-coexistent structure are retained. Increased crystallinity and enhanced crystal grain orientation result in permittivity, volume conductivity, and dielectric loss factor decreasing, but electrical strength increasing. Changes in the activity of molecules, ions, and electrons are the results of variations of crystallinity and orientation; these are the main reasons for the change in electrical properties. The modified dynamic arc model combines the static and the dynamic arc equations that are already established in the literature to reproduce an arc fault involving a lightning-struck tree and a nearby power distribution line during rainfall. The results of experimental studies regarding arc creation between a tree and a nearby power line with artificial rainfall were obtained. A complete model of this phenomenon is reproduced using the electromagnetic transient program (ATP/EMTP) and the existing static and dynamic arc equations. The essential reason for modifying this model is graphically shown with a comparison of the dynamic arc and the modified dynamic arc models. The performance of the arc phenomenon was examined using a typical Finnish distribution network design. By means of simulation using the modified dynamic arc, developed within the ATP/EMTP software with its Transient Analysis Control System features, the lightning arc performance of the MV/LV network under the influence of nearby trees and the network characteristics is analyzed. It is expected that such a model can be included in the existing ATP/EMTP software packages for simulating power system transients. The conventional LFC uses an integral controller. In this paper, a new control system based on the fuzzy sliding mode controller is proposed for controlling the load frequency of nonlinear model of a hydropower plant, and this control system is compared with the proportional–integral controller and the conventional sliding mode controller. To regulate the membership functions of fuzzy system more accurately, the particle swarm optimization algorithm is also applied. Moreover, because of the unavailability of the control system variables, a nonlinear estimator is suggested for estimating and identifying the system state variables. This estimator provides the physical realization of the method and will reduce the costs of implementation. The proposed control method is performed for the LFC of hydropower plant of Karoon-3 in Shahrekord, Iran. The simulation results show the capability of the controller system in controlling local network frequency. Quasi-static complex image methods and a closed form of Green's function were introduced to accelerate the calculation. With inverse FFT, the model can calculate the distribution of lightning currents in any configuration of the grounding system. This method adopts the Bergeron model of transmission line, in which the voltage at any point of the line can be calculated by the voltage and current data sampled at both terminals of the line, and the fault position can be identified using the distributed characteristics of voltage along the line. Unlike the traditional fault location methods based on the Bergeron model, which depend on accurate line parameters and highly synchronized samples at two terminals of the line, the proposed method takes line parameters and asynchronous time at two terminals of the line together with the unknown fault location as the variables in model building to obtain the fault location. As an optimization problem, the model is solved by genetic algorithm. The significant advantage of the method is that it can reduce the influence of line parameter deviation and asynchronous samples at two terminals to the fault location result. The purpose of proposing this method is to avoid the situation without location result for the traveling wave fault location method when a grounding fault occurred with high resistance and to improve the accuracy of fault location result under harsh environment condition. The simulation model of a typical 500 kV HVDC transmission line in the Chinese power system was built by PSCAD, and MATLAB was used to verify the algorithm. Actual fault recording data obtained from the south grid of China were used to test the effectiveness of this method. Simulation results show that the proposed method is valid and is capable of eliminating the influence of line parameters deviation and asynchronous data on the accuracy of fault location results for the HVDC transmission line. This paper presents a novel structure to enhance magnetic force and velocity in TLRM. The new structure is accomplished through some changes in TLRM, which result in a step winding structure. For dynamic modeling of the proposed TLRM and obtaining the motor output characteristics, it is necessary that the inductance profile is calculated with a good accuracy. This paper represents a study of step winding inductance in every plunger positions in TLRMs with open-type magnetic circuits. Electromagnetic finite element analysis is used for proposed motor simulation and coil inductance calculation. Moreover, inductance of a prototype novel TLRM was measured with experimental methods. Simulation results of coil inductance calculation using three-dimensional finite element method with coil current excitation are compared with theoretical and experimental results. Flexibility is one of the most important characters among the requirements. Traditional optimization analysis methods with single objective function and rigid constraints can hardly meet such requirements. This paper introduces the original concept of flexibility in industry process system analysis into power system analysis, analyzes their main differences and makes subdivision of power system flexibility into four kinds, namely property, constraint, load and structure flexibility. Rigid constraints in traditional analysis methods are transformed into flexible forms, and a power system flexibility evaluation method is proposed. Flexibility indices are defined and calculated to give intuitive measure of power system flexibility to grid dispatchers. Then, a flexible comprehensive optimization model in power system analysis is established. The result obtained is not an optimization for a single objective, but a comprehensive optimization considering system economy, safety and other objectives. Case study on IEEE 30-bus test system shows the validity of the methodology proposed.
