Estimating input values while ensuring cost efficiency through changes in output quantities is complex and sensitive. In contrast to conventional data envelopment analysis methods, IDEA enables the quantification of input/output variations resulting from output/input reductions or expansions while preserving the measurement efficiency level. This paper aims to introduce a novel approach for estimating input values by incrementally increasing the value of each output of decision-making units (DMUs) during the evaluation process, thereby maintaining or improving cost efficiency. By utilizing IDEA and manipulating the output values of the DMU under evaluation, the input values are estimated while ensuring constant or enhanced cost efficiency. A simple numerical example and a case study from a Turkish automotive company are presented to validate the proposed method. The obtained results demonstrate significant improvements and hold promising prospects, indicating the potential applicability of this approach to other similar problems and research areas.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"123 42","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139605449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study provides a comprehensive and practical methodology for project risk management. In this paper, firstly, the risks were collected by analyzing the historical documents and literature. Then, the collected risks were screened using brainstorming and categorized into five groups. Subsequently, a questionnaire was made and the identified risks were validated using the Fuzzy Delphi technique. Also, the relationships between risks were determined using the Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) method. Moreover, the weights of the criteria used to rank the risks were calculated through the Fuzzy Best-Worst Method. Subsequently, the major risks were determined using the fuzzy WASPAS method. Furthermore, a novel bi-objective mathematical programming model was developed and solved using the Augmented Epsilon-Constraint (AEC) method to choose the optimal risk response strategies for each critical risk. The results demonstrated that the proposed framework is effective in dealing with construction project risks.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"3 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139439071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study proposes an innovative approach aimed at optimizing controllability, minimizing irreversibility, and maximizing overall effectiveness in control system design to address this challenge. The primary objectives of this study are to introduce a novel methodology for selecting Heat Exchanger Networks (HEN) using the well-established Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. Additionally, a closeness coefficient is introduced to rank alternatives networks based on their proximity to the ideal solution. Two illustrative case studies are presented to showcase the methodology's effectiveness, adaptability, and robustness in discrete multi-criteria decision-making problems, particularly in the context of HEN selection. Consistently identifying HEN configurations that fulfill controllability objectives, the methodology demonstrates its effectiveness and potential for broader applications beyond HEN optimization. The case study results affirm the adaptability and robustness of the proposed approach. In summary, this paper introduces an original and versatile approach to address the complexities of multi-criteria decision-making, specifically in the context of HEN selection. Rooted in the TOPSIS method and fortified by the closeness coefficient, the methodology holds promise for intricate decision-making processes and offers transformative possibilities for control system design. The study concludes by inviting further exploration of the proposed methodology, emphasizing its significant contribution to the field and its potential for widespread impact. Researchers and practitioners are encouraged to investigate and apply this innovative approach in diverse decision-making scenarios. The ranking results reveal that alternatives M and K is the optimum one among all the alternatives for both cases with a closeness coefficient equal to 0.651 and 0.971.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"78 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139440711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Investigating these aspects in isolation may lead to infeasible solutions. This research focuses on the real-time and autonomous decision-making process concerning joint production planning, maintenance, and quality problems in a stochastic deteriorating production system with limited maintenance activities. Formulating the problem as a continuous semi-Markov decision process accounts for the complexities of the real production system and the occurrence of events over an uneven and continuous period. While dynamic programming is a common tool for addressing joint optimization problems, it has limitations, such as the curse of dimensionality. In this study, the optimal policy of the decision-maker agent is obtained by the goal-directed machine learning method called (R-SMART) and agent-based modeling. To the author's knowledge, the proposed approach is novel, and there is little research on such an implementation of the joint optimization problem. The quality of the optimal policy is evaluated through heuristic and simulation-optimization methods in various scenarios. The results demonstrate that the proposed RL-based method outperforms others in most scenarios, achieving a stable, integrated optimal policy.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"4 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139168863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To enhance the competitiveness of construction enterprises in the industry, a multi-objective optimization model for construction project management has been proposed. At the same time, carbon emission was included as one of the optimization objectives in the experiment. This can also align the construction industry with the concept of modern green development. A non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm with elite strategy was proposed to improve the hybrid frog leaping algorithm, and the improved hybrid frog leaping algorithm was used to solve multi-objective optimization problems. The improved hybrid frog leaping algorithm performed better in solving multi-objective optimization problems. The improved hybrid frog leaping algorithm found a total of 132 Pareto solution sets, while the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm with elite strategy only found 23 Pareto solution sets. And the solution set of the improved hybrid frog leaping algorithm is closer to the optimal position. The optimized duration and cost of the improved hybrid frog leaping algorithm are lower, with an optimal duration of 135 days and a minimum cost of $20,000. A multi-objective optimization model for engineering project management incorporating carbon emissions was successfully constructed in the study, and the multi-objective optimization problem was solved.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"54 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139182364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, the investment attractiveness has also been accounted for specifying the mediating impact between the moderator variables and financial sustainability. Robust random effect model was employed to investigate the determinants of financial sustainability for the listed banks on the Iraqi stock trade and the Iraqi financial marketplace. In addition, multicriteria decision-making techniques were utilized to rank the banks from the best to worst based on financial sustainability. This study has examined 19 Iraqi banks over 14 years from 2007 to 2020 (266 observations), during the development of the Iraqi corporate governance cod. The findings indicate that financial risk has a negative influence on the financial sustainability of Iraq. Furthermore, the link between financial risks and financial sustainability is fully mediated by investment attractiveness. In this context, financial expertise and the relinquishing of directors’ riskiest directorships have an interactive role in the link among investment attractiveness and financial sustainability indicators. Multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) results revealed that the best bank in terms of financial sustainability is BTRI and the worst bank is BNOR. The findings enable managers to develop strategies to mitigate financial risk in phases and prepare for future unpredicted risks. Hence, the results provided an insight to practitioners regarding the best banks in terms of financial sustainability in order to invest and deal with them.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"142 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139184080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the critical interruptions is the targeted attacks on the operating cyber-physical systems to disconnect operations, inspection, or monitoring of the system. Therefore, adopting a cybersecurity system (or platform) that provides holistic protection is vital for protecting the integrity of critical infrastructure networks. As such, this research aspires to provide a decision support system for cybersecurity managers or practitioners (in the Indian power sector) to select the best and appropriate platform for protection against cyber-attacks. A three-phase method is adopted. First, a literature search followed by an expert panel discussion identified alternatives (cybersecurity platforms) and selection criteria. Next, a questionnaire was developed. Thirdly, a hybrid Best-Worst Improved and COmprehensive distance-Based RAnking (BWM-I and COBRA) method was proposed and applied to evaluate the cybersecurity platform alternatives. Four alternatives (Cloud-Based Platforms, Web-Based Platforms, Application-Based Platforms, and AI-Based Platforms), six primary criteria, and fifteen unique sub-criteria were identified. Responses were collected from 80 power utility managers on a pan-India basis, ranking \"End-to-End Coverage\" criteria and the AI-Based platform as best. This approach identified the best cybersecurity platform that, if adopted, can be extended to other critical infrastructures, with an appropriate adjustment in the selection criteria. The study can be helpful to practitioners in evaluating cybersecurity platforms. Furthermore, it addresses a research gap in its application in a developing country like India.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139222365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, consumer acceptance of the services offered by these branchless banks is a key success factor for their widespread adoption. The aim of our research is to understand the individual decision-making process of potential and current neobank users. This paper seeks to explore the relationships between the factors that influence customers' intention to use neobank services by extending the widely used technology acceptance model (TAM) to include trust. To answer the research questions, we conducted an online questionnaire survey in Hungary in 2022. Using structural equation modelling (SEM) on a sample of 475 respondents, we found that intention to use is directly influenced by attitude towards use, which in turn is positively influenced by trust, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Based on these results, we recommend that neobanks should focus on building positive attitudes towards their services by emphasising trust, reliability, ease of use and usefulness of their services.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139243586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, pandemics and crises caused SC disruptions for enterprises. Thus, an enterprise’s SC must constantly be ready to face various obstacles and unpredictable environmental changes. In an era of growing technological advancement, enterprises and their strategies are transforming toward sustainable and resilient SC. For this reason, this study embraces the notion of utilizing technologies such as Artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analytics (BDA) as branches of intelligence techniques of Industry 4.0 (Ind 4.0) and, thereafter, Industry 5.0 (Ind 5.0). Thus, the study contributes to constructing an appraiser model for appraising the enterprises that employ these technologies and techniques in their SC to be sustainable resilience in another meaning resilience supply chain (ReSSC). This model utilized best worst method (BWM) under the governing of Single-valued triangular neutrosophic sets (SVTNSs) to generate an appraiser model. Whereas SVNSs applied in the comparative analysis as a comparative model with the cooperation of AHP, TOPSIS, and WSM to validate our constructed model. The findings of the appraiser model based on MCDM merging with SVTNSs and the comparative model based on MCDM integrated with SVNSs agreed that the optimal key indicator six is securing of data (KI6); otherwise, Key Indicator three is transparency (KI3). Also, these models agreed to recommend enterprises from optimal to worst as En1> En4> En2> En3. From the results of the two models, En1 is the most sustainable and resilient. Contrary, En 3 is the least.","PeriodicalId":504436,"journal":{"name":"Decision Making: Applications in Management and Engineering","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139244794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
