The focus was on the impact of teachers’ control strategies on students’ linguistic contributions in ESL classrooms in Nigeria. A qualitative approach involving classroom observations and teacher interviews was used for data collection and analysis. The results reveal that teachers had continual control over classroom interaction. The students’ linguistic moves were determined by teachers’ discourse choices and control strategies, which mainly involved the use of display questions and instructions. The impact of teacher control on students’ verbal participation included students’ limited discourse initiation moves, increased responding moves, and silence to turn-taking. The study concluded that teachers exercise significant control over the classroom discourse, and this behaviour pattern dramatically impacts students’ linguistic contributions. It is recommended that teachers reflect on their discourse behaviour and interactional strategies to encourage students’ classroom linguistic contributions and the development of students’ communicative skills.","PeriodicalId":503935,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140471668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objectives were to establish the strategies employed in teaching of English as a second language in multilingual classrooms; analyze how the strategies are used and investigate materials used with the strategies. To address these objectives, a phenomenological qualitative descriptive design was employed. The study was guided by Vygotsky’s Social Learning Theory. Data were collected through interview guide and lesson observation protocol; on a sample of 18 teachers drawn from five selected primary schools. Narrative analysis was employed. The findings indicated that translation, code switching, look and say, group work, class discussions, question and answer, body language and phonemic awareness were the strategies teachers employed in the teaching of English as a Second Language in multilingual classrooms. The study further found that the strategies were used in the teaching of different components of English Language such as vocabulary, prepositions, dialogue and comprehension in the multilingual classrooms. The data also revealed that Chalkboard, English Readers (Textbooks) and Flash cards were the most commonly used teaching and learning materials in the multilingual classrooms that were studied. The findings revealed there was over reliance on the use of chalkboard and question and answer in the lessons. The study concludes that variety of strategies and teaching and learning materials are employed in teaching English as a Second Language in multilingual classrooms. The study recommends that teaching English as a Second Language in multilingual classrooms should involve the use of different strategies that enhance learning among learners. Teachers should think out of the box when deciding on what teaching and learning materials to use besides depending on the usual common chalkboard, textbooks and flash cards. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":503935,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"360 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140473299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tales are also a means of articulating man’s response to his environment (Mbiti, 1966:31). In most traditional societies, tales served as one of the medium for understanding the societal mores and prescripts. The Hausa societies were not exceptional. In Hausa society, folktale is one of the ways of teaching societal values. It was/ is mostly presented by old women and young brides to teach children societal and moral ethics. This work aim at the study of the reflection of Hausa society in Hausa tales which critically analyses how tales depict the mode of life of the Hausa community. This covers the traditional and cultural set up which include marriage and family system, moral discipline and traditional political leadership system. The work traced some illustrations of tales relating to the above mentioned cultural norms of the Hausa society. The methods to be adopted in the research are the use of Anthology of tales of Yahaya and Usman in order to collect the data and analyses it. Structural functional approach and contextual method of translation are to be adopted as the theoretical framework. The recommendations include that the government should give emphasis on the teaching of folktales in the curriculum especially at the basic level of education.","PeriodicalId":503935,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"457 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140474249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research assessed the current utilization of accounting information within Nigerian academic libraries and examining its impact on decision-making effectiveness. A survey research design approach was employed and data gathered was quantitatively analyzed by assessing the impact of accounting information on decision-making effectiveness in academic libraries. The research design was used because the study involved the distribution of questionnaire to selected respondents (the accounting professionals, librarians and institutions management) from six Tertiary Institutions in Nasarawa State. The study adopted the stratified sampling design in order to obtain a representative sample. The study sample size was taken by considering representation from the three major stakeholders (three each from accounting professionals, librarians and institutions management) numbering 9 for each institution given a total of 54 for all.  The study variables comprise of both the dependent variable – Decision Making Effectiveness, and the Independent variable – Accounting Information. Data collected was analyzed using the descriptive statistic, correlation analysis and regression for the inferential statistics. Both the Pearson correlation and Regression analysis results corroborated the fact that accounting information significantly affects decision making effectiveness in academic Libraries in Nigeria. The study recommends among others: Training of library staff, especially those involved in financial management, on accounting principles and financial analysis; allocating financial resources to activities or projects that will yield the greatest impact on the library's objectives; and Aligning financial goals with the overall mission and objectives of the academic library to ensure that resources are directed toward achieving the institution's long-term vision.","PeriodicalId":503935,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"9 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140503808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
