This laboratory experiment was carried out in the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Hyderabad during Karif, 2022. The susceptible population was reared in laboratory continuously for ten generation without exposing it to insecticides. The susceptibility of field populations of S. litura that were collected from many vegetable crops in the intense vegetable crop cultivating mandals i.e., Chevella and Maheshwaram of Rangareddy district to commonly used insecticides viz., chlorantraniliprole, emamectin benzoate and flubendamide was then compared with a laboratory reared susceptible population The bioassay studies revealed that the LC50 values of these insecticides were significantly higher in the field population collected from Chevella and Maheshwaram compared to the susceptible laboratory population. Based on the LC50 values the Resistant ratio (RR) was calculated for the field populations. It was found that Chevella population developed 35.34 folds resistance and Maheshwaram population also developed nearly 34.90-fold resistance against emamectin benzoate. Both Chevella and Maheshwaram populations were found to develop moderate resistance of 28.23 and 27.35-fold against flubendamide and comparatively lower resistance of 21.05 and 23.44-fold resistance against chlorantraniliprole when compared to susceptible population. These findings further helps in developing better IRM strategies.","PeriodicalId":503810,"journal":{"name":"UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY","volume":"20 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141005148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anthropogenic activities are largely responsible for the widespread pollution of heavy metals in the environment, which is having a harmful impact on human health. Rapid urbanization, industrialization, population explosion, and use of advanced technology in developing countries have resulted in huge rise in waste production. Waste generation and disposal along with landfills is a serious global environmental threat resulting in heavy metal contamination of the soils, water, and plants. Heavy metals reaching in the atmosphere result to the deterioration of the quality, and contamination of the soil and groundwater along with damage to the living organisms. The present review describes the analysis of heavy metal pollution of the environment with respect to air, animals, aquatic ecosystem, plants, and soil. Special emphasis is provided on sources of heavy metals in the environment, harmful impacts of heavy metals on the environment and strategies to control heavy metal pollution of the environment. Present study is based on critical review and analysis of scientific information published by academic and professional researchers who studied the impact of heavy metal pollution on the environment. Research articles on impact of heavy metal pollution on the environment published in high impact factor journals were referred for collection of databases. This study notices that there is an urgent need for continuous monitoring of various environmental elements for heavy metals in different open dumpsites. It also recommends that nanomaterials, such as metal oxide nanoparticles, graphene and its derivatives, magnetic nanoparticles, and carbon nanotubes should be used to remove the toxic heavy metals from the air, water and soil.","PeriodicalId":503810,"journal":{"name":"UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY","volume":"53 3‐4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141002396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The freshwater prawn, locally known as “Jhinga” was the subject of this study. Prawn samples had been collected in different months of both sexes, and a close relation between their length and weight were observed. The morphometric analysis showed that females ranged from 31-57 mm in length, with their weight ranges from 0.31-1.39g, which are larger than the males (21- 36mm) with their higher weight range (0.13- 0.49g). A high correlation coefficient was observed in males (R2 = 0.808) and females (R2 = 0.881) separately. There were significant differences in the condition factors of males and females at P = .05. The lowest condition factor (CF) value for the males was observed in January (CF= 1.06) and highest in September (CF= 1.52), while in the females CF was the highest value in January (CF=0.82) and the lowest one in March (CF=0.75). The sex ratio of male: female (1.0: 2.10) was found, indicating that females are significantly greater in number than males.","PeriodicalId":503810,"journal":{"name":"UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY","volume":"15 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141011160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was conducted through series of field observations for transgressive segregants at Plant Breeding Farm, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University during Kharif season of 2022. The crosses involved high-yielding but susceptible female parents (ADT 43, ADT 45, ASD 16) and YSB resistant but low yielding male parents (TKM 6, ASD 12). In the F2 generation, a wide range of phenotypes was observed for yield-related traits and YSB resistance. Twelve superior transgressive segregants were identified in each cross, exhibiting increased grain yield per plant, number of productive tillers, and number of grains per panicle, coupled with high levels of resistance to YSB. The results suggest that the parents carried different alleles and genes governing yield and its component traits, allowing the accumulation of favorable alleles in the F2 progeny through recombination. The identification of these high-performing transgressive segregants provides opportunities for further evaluation and potential use in rice breeding programs to develop improved cultivars with enhanced yield and biotic stress resistance.","PeriodicalId":503810,"journal":{"name":"UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY","volume":"49 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141010131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Juvenile P. hypophthalmus were divided into three groups: control (daily feeding), feed limited (fed every third day) and deprived (no feeding). Blood samples were collected weekly. Results showed a significant decrease (P<0.05) in total protein and calcium levels in fish subjected to feed restriction and starvation. Although glucose levels decreased, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Cortisol levels in feed-deprived fish showed significant variations (P<0.05) with an erratic trend. Notably, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatinine levels exhibited significant increases (P<0.05). Throughout the starvation period, alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) levels rose, yet compared to the control, their concentrations did not significantly differ (P>0.05). The study concludes that total protein, LDH, and calcium, among other biochemical markers, were particularly sensitive to hunger-induced stress in P. hypophthalmus. This kind of study already conducted on some freshwater catfishes (Mustafa S., Tripathi G.) and catfiahes.","PeriodicalId":503810,"journal":{"name":"UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY","volume":"33 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141013905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast to that, increasing the number of people and economy will impact biodiversity in the global level as it will not only destroy the ecosystems but also make them vulnerable to disruption. Preservation of biodiversity is undoubtedly one of the fundamental aspects that is necessary to keep species and genetic variations along with ecosystems. There is a large variety of insect species (more than half of all known life) and they are crucial for ecosystem functioning via pollination, nutrient recycling, and food web maintenance; However, they also act as vectors of diseases and pests. This research is focused on the insect diversity in Loyola College located in Chennai which was done through the Area Search Survey Method. Using a smartphone camera, the insects were imaged and then identified via iNaturalist. The reported data confirm the occurrence of various beetle classes, among which Lepidoptera is noted as the top order. The discussion delves into the ecological significance as well as economic influence of different insect groups which include services that they provide by way of pollination, pest control and so on. Awareness of insect biodiversity is important because of its role in ecosystem balance, agricultural stability, and human wellness.","PeriodicalId":503810,"journal":{"name":"UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY","volume":"95 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141013511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review provides a comprehensive overview of the pharmacological, analytical, and pharmaceutical characteristics of Irbesartan. Pharmacologically, Irbesartan selectively antagonizes the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors, leading to vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and consequently blood pressure lowering. The drug also exhibits favourable effects on renal function, making it a cornerstone therapy for diabetic nephropathy. Analytically, various chromatographic methods including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) have been developed and validated for the quantification of Irbesartan in biological samples and pharmaceutical formulations, owing to its importance in pharmacokinetic studies and quality control processes. Moreover, spectroscopic techniques such as UV-visible spectrophotometry have been utilized for Irbesartan determination due to their simplicity and cost-effectiveness. Pharmaceutical considerations encompass formulation strategies, stability studies, and bioavailability enhancement techniques aimed at ensuring the efficacy and safety of Irbesartan formulations. The regulatory approval of Irbesartan-containing products by major health authorities underscores its clinical significance and quality assurance.","PeriodicalId":503810,"journal":{"name":"UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY","volume":"91 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141016097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
