The study interviewed ten Saudi bilinguals who code-switch between English and Arabic. Five of them were males and the other 5 were females. In order to conduct comparative research, six of the respondents were living in large cities and four of them were residents of small cities in Saudi Arabia. The research concluded that bilingual Saudis implement code-switching in professional settings and they claim it is natural and is more likely to be expected. Also, English Saudi bilinguals reported that they identify with English as well as Arabic and they were less likely to believe that communicating in English discard their Saudi identity or distort it. To sum it up, this current study found that it is natural for crowded and big or large cities to expand the importance of repetitive code-switching with the availability of non-Arabic speakers in several linguistic contexts and some professional settings.","PeriodicalId":502776,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Human Research","volume":"27 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140972788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

International trade is the exchange of goods, services, or other factors of production across national borders. One example of international trade is exports and imports. Export and import activities have a close relationship with demand and supply. In this study, we will examine one of the important aspects of international trade, namely imports. Indonesia, as a country that has a wide coastline and a large water area, still needs to import salt from other countries to meet the salt needs in Indonesia itself. Therefore, research will be conducted on salt imports in Indonesia as influenced by Gross Domestic Product, US Dollar Exchange Rate, and Money Supply. In this study, there is a period of twenty years, from 2003 to 2022. The number of observations in this study is eighty because there are four variables with a research data period of twenty years. The objectives of this study are 1) to analyze the effect of GDP, the US Dollar Exchange Rate, and the Amount of Money in Circulation simultaneously on Salt imports in Indonesia in 2003–2022, 2) to analyze the effect of GDP, the US Dollar Exchange Rate, and the Amount of Money in Circulation partially on Salt imports in Indonesia in 2003–2022, and 3) to find out the variables that have the most dominant influence on Salt Imports in Indonesia in 2003–2022. The results of this study show that GDP and the amount of money in circulation have a positive effect on salt imports in Indonesia in 2003–2022, and the US dollar exchange rate has a negative effect on salt imports in Indonesia. Gross Domestic Product has the most dominant influence on the Salt Import variable, among other variables.","PeriodicalId":502776,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Human Research","volume":"83 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140973646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving surveys and semi-structured interviews with 220 non-English major students and language teachers. The surveys assessed students' perceptions of various dopamine-stimulating activities, including gamified vocabulary acquisition courses, interactive language games, reward-based speaking activities, physical activity breaks, and project-based learning with rewards. Results indicate varying perceptions across academic years, with first-year students expressing the highest perceptions of effectiveness, followed by a decreasing trend in perceptions among higher-year students. Teachers reported challenges such as balancing novelty with meeting specific learning objectives, resource constraints, and classroom management difficulties. Qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with language teachers provided additional insights into the challenges and strategies encountered in implementing dopamine-stimulating activities. Themes emerged around the excitement and perceived effectiveness of these activities, specific activities utilized by teachers (such as interactive games, multimedia presentations, and real-world simulations), challenges faced, positive outcomes observed (including enhanced student engagement, participation, and language proficiency), and the need for flexibility and creativity in overcoming challenges. The study highlights the importance of considering students' perceptions and challenges faced by teachers in optimizing the effectiveness of dopamine-stimulating activities in language education. Tailored approaches to address varying perceptions and challenges are necessary to ensure meaningful engagement and promote effective language learning experiences. The findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on innovative pedagogical approaches in language education and offer practical implications for educators seeking to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.","PeriodicalId":502776,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Human Research","volume":"70 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140973881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"A Paradigm Shift towards Environmental Responsibility in Sustainable Green Tourism and Hospitality","authors":"Daneshwar Daneshwar, Dr. E. V. Revaty","doi":"10.47191/ijsshr/v7-i05-33","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.47191/ijsshr/v7-i05-33","url":null,"abstract":"The demand for various cultural experiences and easier access to travel has driven the exponential rise of the global tourism and hospitality industries in recent decades. However, the increased tourism has sparked worries about how it would affect the environment which led to a paradigm change in favour of sustainable methods. The phrase \"green tourism\" describes a collection of behaviors designed to reduce the adverse effects of tourism-related activities on the environment, society, and culture. This entails implementing eco-friendly programs, encouraging conservation, and cultivating community involvement. Similarly, green hospitality emphasizes eco-friendly procedures in lodging establishments, promoting waste minimization, energy efficiency, and ethical sourcing. The carbon footprint of travel is one of the main issues that green tourism and hospitality attempt to address. With the assistance of carbon offset programs and the promotion of environmentally friendly transportation options, like electric vehicles, the sector is coming to understand the significance of lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the implementation of sustainable building designs, energy-efficient technologies, and renewable energy sources in hospitality facilities helps to reduce their overall environmental effect. An additional crucial component of green tourism is water conservation. Water-saving methods, like low-flow fixtures and effective irrigation systems, are being implemented by accommodations to reduce water usage and safeguard nearby ecosystems. Waste management is essential to reaching sustainability targets in the tourism and hospitality industries. There is a growing movement to reduce the use of single-use plastics, encourage recycling, and establish composting techniques. Establishments promote the circular economy and lessen environmental deterioration by encouraging guests to dispose of waste responsibly. The effectiveness of projects aimed at promoting green tourism depends on community involvement. Forming alliances with nearby communities guarantees equitable distribution of economic gains and promotes a sense of collective accountability for environmental preservation. Moreover, maintaining the uniqueness of sites is aided by fostering cultural sensitivity and respect for local knowledge. To sum up, green tourism and hospitality mark a significant turn in the direction of a more responsible and sustainable sector. The tourist and hospitality industry may make a substantial contribution to environmental preservation by implementing eco-friendly practices, reducing carbon footprints, preserving water resources, handling waste responsibly, and interacting with local people.","PeriodicalId":502776,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Human Research","volume":"85 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140984788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Education implemented in the form of tiered formal schools, in its development, has denied the humanitarian goals of education. Formal schools have become institutions like banks where students are bank customers who must comply with applicable regulations and systems. In banking style education, humans are molded into homo-academicus who lose their humanity. Recognizing such a situation, several institutions in Purwokerto offer alternative education which aims to give students the opportunity to develop their personal potential and creativity to become superior human beings and able to become citizens in their community. This research is aimed at revealing a more humane education as practiced by alternative education institutions in Purwokerto. This research was carried out using qualitative research methods. Data and information were collected through in-depth interviews with several volunteers, teachers, facilitators and managers at alternative education institutions in Purwokerto. The results of this research show that there are several ways that alternative educational institutions can prevent the occurrence and development of bank-style education. First, education can be achieved by playing. Through games, students can not only learn happily, but also learn to work together with others and respect others. Second, education can be achieved through open dialogue between volunteers/teachers/facilitators and students. In addition, volunteers/teachers/ facilitators encourage students to help each other and love each other. In this way, learning materials are no longer academic problems but rather common problems that must be addressed as a group. Third, the school environment and the natural environment outside the school are places for students to learn. In this way, students learn to explore nature directly on the material they study. Students also have the opportunity to interact directly with community members who deal with nature in their daily lives. This opportunity can foster students' awareness of local community values and norms.","PeriodicalId":502776,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Human Research","volume":"23 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140985395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To do so, Africans must immerse themselves in the knowledge of their past. The background of West African civilization and history must serve as a rear-view mirror for the advancement of the current generation. Indeed, Basil Davidson, who was an important recorder of information about Africa, edifies us on the main discovery of this older generation based on his study of African iron tools. This invention contributed enormously to the improvement of the population’s well-being and the creation of families, and later villages. These were followed by the foundation of the first kingdoms, culminating in empires such as Ghana, Mali, Songhayand other kingdoms like Senegamby, Mossi, Igbo, Asante, Bono, and Kanem-Bornu. During this period of prosperity, man belonged to his community. The people of the past were imbued with values that placed the interests of the group above those of the individual. Then came the interval between the end of the empires and the independence of West African countries. During this era, the influence of Europeans through slavery and colonization was a heavy weight on their heads. The methodology uses both descriptive and qualitative analyses. Utilizing the framework of Afrocentricity theorized by Molefi Kete Asante we will examine Davidson’s orientation to the data he discussed in order to seek an African perspective on the facts. It is from this angle that this article enlightens on how the writer addresses this question of civilization and prosperity in his work.","PeriodicalId":502776,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Human Research","volume":"75 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140984665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Water transportation offers benefits like cheaper costs, increased capacity, and safety, but its potential has not been completely realized. This is because canal ports have defects that prevent the flexibility and convenience required for the flow of goods and services. The study focuses on the Lagos State Waterways Operations. A small number of carefully chosen canal terminals that link different regions of Lagos State make up the study's population. Purposive sampling was done at the Elegbata/Ebute Ero Terminal, Ebute Ojo Terminal, Ikorodu Terminal, and Badore Terminal. The snowballing technique was used to randomly select 818 passengers. Investigation revealed that daily fee charges have an effect on Lagos State's water transportation operations, and that commuters' comfort level and distance traveled were statistically significant for each of the seven independent components. This analysis showed how daily ticket costs affect the waterways transportation operations in Lagos State. The analysis shows how the low fees actually promote more traffic on Lagos State's waterways, raising the cost of upkeep and lengthening the time needed for servicing. It was recommended that efforts be made to reduce fare prices and provide suitable infrastructure at the ports in order to have efficient inland waterways operations that result in a complete reduction in operational expenses.","PeriodicalId":502776,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Science and Human Research","volume":"96 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140984173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
